So I was on Sid this morning, every Thursday I do that, and we have a good rapport, as you know.
And it came up that Long Island, where I live, is now trending Republican while New York City stays Democrat.
But it isn't about party politics in New York City.
And that's what a lot of people don't understand.
It's not the Democratic Party that's driving these votes.
It gets a little complicated, but here's my hypothesis.
In order to support capitalism and self-reliance, two of the building blocks of the Republican Party,
got to have skin in the game, you've got to want to succeed economically.
And that's what capitalism is, that you can start with nothing, as I literally did.
I was penniless when I came out of Boston University and started my journalism career.
And you can build yourself up to affluence.
That pathway remains open in America.
You have to work hard.
I have.
But it's there.
Capitalism provides that.
The second thing is ownership.
So if you own a home, even a car, if you have possessions that you value, you want to protect those possessions.
You want to protect that home, your property.
And that plays into the capitalistic system as well.
Enter the socialist aspect of New York City, where many of these voters,
don't have anything.
So their attitude, and I'm generalizing now,
but I can back it up with votes.
Their attitude is, look, the system is rigged
for whatever reason you fill in the blank.
I can't get out of my circumstance.
So I'm living in a rented apartment in a bad neighborhood.
I don't have anything.
I have a job maybe that doesn't pay.
me much, maybe you don't have a job, and I'm dependent on government assistance.
So I have no skin in the game as far as being a capitalist is concerned.
I don't believe in that.
I can't succeed.
The system oppresses me.
Those people turn to socialism.
What is socialism?
It's basically a government-run mandate, Cuba, Nicarious.
Agua, many, many countries all around the world. The government says this is what you can have
to its citizens, and this is what you cannot have. And if you have a house, well, we may take that
house. That's communism, the seizure of private property is communism. But we'll take it by
real punitive taxation. So just to allow you to live in the house, you've got to pay
enormous amount of money. In my house on Long Island, which is a nice house, but not a mansion,
I'd pay about $60,000 just to live here. And that's not a mortgage. That's tax.
Okay, that's insane. So that's where we are in New York State. That's socialism. We're going to take
from those who have and give to the people in the poor precincts, the terrible apartments,
the people who just don't have enough.
Sometimes it's their fault, by the way, and sometimes it isn't.
But it doesn't matter to the socialist because they're going to gather up as much as they
can from those who succeed, from those who succeed.
I'm sorry, my voice can.
and give it to those who don't.
That is a powerful incentive to vote for far, far-left politicians who will do that.
Poster lady, Ocasio Cortez.
She is a socialist.
That's what she wants.
And that's what her district wants.
So she waltzes on in.
It doesn't matter if it's a Democrat, you could run on the Mugwump Party.
If you were a socialist, you get the votes.
