I hope you guys are kind of set for Christmas.
It's coming up fast, as you know, five more days.
Excuse me.
And a magical time of the year, but you've got to build in R&R.
Can't just be racing, race and race.
Can you have some time to think about great Christmases in the past,
your parents, especially if they're deceased,
what you did when you were a child.
I love all that.
Get some good Christmas songs on.
I got candles in the windows.
There was a picture that I put up about the O'Reilly House on Christmas decoration.
I hope you saw that.
And, you know, we're in good shape here.
Got a few things I have to do, but mostly it's done.
I want to mention a new census report this year.
It's out this year about people leaving New York.
Okay. So in 2023, this year, New York State led the league and population decrease.
102,000 people left the state. Now, far more than that actually did, but the census doesn't get everybody.
So that's a big crew. And most of those people are aflo-a.
and they paid big taxes.
California's second, 76,000 people left California.
Okay?
So New York's population decreased 0.5%.
California, 0.2%.
We have 19.6 million residents and shrinking.
California has 39 million and shrinking.
Okay?
So California way bigger than us. So is Florida. Florida had people going there.
All right. Texas actually was number one. About a half million people moved to Texas in
2003. Now, I lived in a Lone Star State for two years. It was too hot for me. I almost died
from the heat down there. I enjoyed it. I traveled to every county in the state. It's
It's fascinating, particularly because I'm a historian, but I can never live in Texas again, ever, way too hot.
Okay?
Florida almost as hot as Texas and more human, they gained 365,000 residents.
So Texas gained 473,000, Florida 365,000.
Florida has 23 million residents, Texas, 31 million.
And those are red states, whereas New York, California are blue.
So the electoral college is narrowing now.
It's good for conservative people.
The reason that, and more people are going to leave New York with this congestion pricing,
because New York City is the hub of the population here, all right?
And congestion pricing is going to put an enormous amount of pressure on commuters on people who hold jobs in the city.
It's going to be very, very difficult. Small businesses by the hundreds are going to fold.
Cugel are not going to go into the city, pay $15. And where do you see the traffic backup for this? Oh my God.
It's just going to be colossal. This is a huge mistake. This isn't London here. London, much more
spread out city.
You got the river Thames going through London, and that's it.
New York is an island.
Manhattan is an island.
You got bridges and tunnels and in and out.
London's spread out all over the place.
So you can do a congestion pricing thing there, but you can't do it in a contained area like
New York City.
They're going to find it out the hard way.
this year, 2004, 24 coming up, 2024, I think we'll lose another 150,000 out of here.
Because the taxes, the crime, the pollution, it's so hard to get to work, it's so expensive, people are going, enough.
Hate to be pessimistic in the Christmas season.
Got to tell you the truth.
