Starting point is 00:00:00 I want to lead local, as I often do, about a story that I've been following because they're very disturbing. So on November 14th last year, two young black men, Karim McClary and Isaiah Gemesee attacked two police officers on a subway platform in the Bronx. You may remember this story. It was caught on videotape. and the fight was vicious. These young men were asked by the officers to stop smoking marijuana in the subway. They refused and then they attacked the officers. Now it's not any, he said, she said, this is on tape, you can see it.
Starting point is 00:00:53 So the guys get arrested and are immediately released from custody with without bail. Even though they attack police officers, they're out. So they were supposed to show up to criminal court on January 24th, which would be today. They did. And their case was adjourned to March 11th. This is the third adjournment. Okay? So they showed up in December adjourned. They showed up in January adjourned. And of course, they were booked in November. So now it's March 11th.
Starting point is 00:01:37 Why? Why? Why can't the Bronx DA prosecute this case? Why? I don't know. We don't know. We asked. Now, one of the officers, John Hernandez, all right, was repeatedly punched in the head, face, and neck.
Starting point is 00:01:59 had to go to the hospital. He's all right. We don't know who the other officer is. There was a third man on the platform that participated in attacking the police. The New York City PD has not arrested that man. Why? Because they couldn't lean on the two suspects because they were immediately released on bail. Now, if they had been kept in jail, you could have leaned on them. I don't mean beat them up, but discussed it, maybe a deal, plea offering, whatever.
Starting point is 00:02:33 Now he can't. So they didn't get the third guy. He's still in the wind. Okay? Added to this is a very interesting component. So in December, I went to a gathering for W.A.B.C.
Starting point is 00:02:51 Christmas gathering. Very nice. At that gathering were some, New York City Police Union officials. Now, it was a social occasion, so I wasn't giving them a hard time. I waved at them. They didn't wave back. They stared me down. Okay? They didn't like the fact that I had called and asked for the union to put a representative on common sense, on WAC. We had done that before the party, and they turned us down.
Starting point is 00:03:25 They wouldn't talk about it. So during the party, a guy comes up to me, former cop, older, pulls me aside, he goes, why are you being so hard on the NYPD? And I said, I'm not being hard. My job is to get information about this police beatdown, so it doesn't happen again. So why won't the union tell me what's going on? The guy pulls me aside and says, there's another element to the story. there was another police officer according to this man who did not come to the aid of the two officers
Starting point is 00:04:04 who were beaten and that person that cop is now under investigation with internal affairs because he wouldn't help his brothers who could have been killed The union, police union, doesn't want any part of this. They don't want it out. And it has not been out because the New York local media is ridiculous. It's eight minutes of weather on television. So that's where we are. These two guys, they are guilty, if you believe the videotape, they come in March 11th.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Why? This happened November 14th. Not a complicated case. I bet you they get no jail time whatsoever. But we'll follow it for you.
