Starting point is 00:00:00 Bill O'Reilly here. Welcome to the No Spin News. Wednesday, September 4th, 2024, stand up for your country. You know, the world's changing fast. Most of us understand it, but some of us don't. And there is some good change and some bad change. Now, in a few years, this artificial intelligence, that is going to be stunning. And this broadcast is setting you up to understand how the evolution of the world will affect you.
Starting point is 00:00:44 But today is not like it was last year. And I remember starting my news analysis career in 1996. It's like the Stone Age back then compared to what it is now. So information is the key, and that's what we are selling here at bill o'Reilly.com and the no-spin news. We are selling information that you can trust, and that's why we prospered above and beyond all our competitors, because if I tell it to you, it's true. And in this very important election cycle, that is paramount for you to know. So what we're going to do is expand the operation.
Starting point is 00:01:30 And I'll tell you about that later on in the broadcast. We previewed it last night. We have a YouTube channel in addition to bill o'Reilly.com. And I'm starting to do commentary on a almost daily basis on the YouTube channel that you won't get on the NOSPA news because I'm going out of politics. For example, tonight and tomorrow, I'm going to do the National Football League kicking off, pardon me, terrible cliche. And what that means in America, and it's a business story that's unbelievable. I'm going to do those things that I don't ordinarily do here on this YouTube channel. We'll tell you about that coming up.
Starting point is 00:02:12 The Talking Points memo this evening is how Trump can win the debate, which he needs to win, if he wants to get back to the Oval Office. As you know, it's on Tuesday, ABC, 9 p.m. Eastern, David Muir and Lindsay Davis moderators. I did not a debate, but a hit with John Hannity on his radio program today. I discussed the moderators and ABC in the presentation and what Trump has to do. But last night on News Nation, I got very, very. specific about it. Now remember before I run this soundbite, if Trump loses the
Starting point is 00:02:55 debate or doesn't win it in a fairly significant way, he might very well lose the election. So there's a lot riding on this. Here's what I said on News Nation last night. Go. Kamala has nothing to run on. Nothing. The Biden administration has been a disaster. This campaign is like the campaign of 1980. Reagan and Carter. The Democrats are telling everybody Carter was the greatest president. Everybody knew he wasn't. So now you've got to tie in
Starting point is 00:03:27 Kamala Harris with Biden. And the only person who can do it is Trump. The president is going to do it. The pundits can't do it. But Trump could do it if he starts to make statements that are simple and clear
Starting point is 00:03:43 in the debate. So I went on to say that, and I'll give you one example, simple and clear. So you can't count on the moderators to ask follow-up questions that are meaningful. Just like Dana Bash on CNN last week, they'll ask a tough question. But then Kamala Harris or Donald Trump can answer anything they want to answer, uninterrupted. So Harris will have, you know, 10, 12 answers to predictable questions memorized. And there's just spit them out. It's the follow-up. You're not going to get that.
Starting point is 00:04:20 And that skill has been lost, that interviewing skill. Mike Wallace, Tim Russert, Bernie Goldberg wrote about that on his website today, bernardgoldberg.com. And he mentioned me, too, that tough interviewers have pretty much evaporated in America. They don't exist anymore. Now, we'll get into that at a later date. But Donald Trump has to understand that before he gives an answer to any question, he can say whatever he wants, just like Kamala Harris is going to say whatever she wants.
Starting point is 00:04:54 And if I were Trump, I would say, you know, before I get to that David or Lindsay or whatever, I'm still perplexed about how I could lead the Oval Office with inflation at 1.4%. And one year later, under Biden Harris, it's 9%. Does the vice president have an explanation for that? might you ask her? That way you embarrass the moderators, you get it out there because Harris does not have an answer. She doesn't, it'll be gibberish. So anyway, that's just one. I got 15. Now, will Donald Trump do that? Probably not. I don't know why. I just think it's so obvious is that's how you win the debate. You pose questions about higher prices, the border, the Middle East,
Starting point is 00:05:50 social disorder. I mean, she's got so many down things. Now we see that friends of hers, and I'll report this tomorrow because I want to do a little more research in it, are urging her to support reparations for slavery. Now, she's never going to do that in a campaign, but she will do it if she gets elected. So to me, it's just so clear cut, but I, you know, all I can do is give you honest analysis. Let's just sum this up. Donald Trump is the only person on earth who can define Kamala Harris. He's got one shot to do it. It's on September 10th at 9 p.m. Eastern. One shot. Okay, that's a memo. Today, President Biden's at the White House. He has nothing on a schedule, not unusual. I mean, you know that. Donald Trump is doing a town hall with
Starting point is 00:06:45 Sean Hannity in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. That will be on Fox News Channel at 9. And Kamala Harris is in New Hampshire, telling small business people she's going to give them a tax credit or something, which is fine. I mean, I'm a small business. So she's going to give me a tax credit. Okay. I so wouldn't vote for her because I think that she doesn't understand the country or the world. That's what it comes down to. I do not think that Vice President Harris is a frame of reference to run this country. Donald Trump ran it for four years. Okay, but you know, you all know that. Now, propaganda is at a record level in America. Joseph Goebbels, the Third Reich minister of propaganda would be very proud to see what's going on.
Starting point is 00:07:38 this country? Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress. National debt rising, trade war, shaking the markets. And meanwhile, China is dumping the dollar and stockpiling gold. That's why I protected my savings with physical gold and silver through the only dealer I trust, American Hartford Gold. And you can do this. Get precious metals delivered to your door. or place in a tax advantage, gold IRA. They'll even help you roll over your existing IRA or 401K, tax and penalty-free. With billions and precious metals delivered thousands of five-star reviews and an A-plus from the Better Business Bureau,
Starting point is 00:08:22 you can trust American Hartford Gold as I do. Please call 866-3-2-6, 55-76, or text Bill to 9988-9-8-8-9. Again, that's 866-326-5576 or text bill to 998899. Power, politics, and the people behind the headlines. I'm Miranda Devine, New York Post columnist, and the host of the brand new podcast, Podforce One. Every week, I'll sit down for candid conversations with Washington's most powerful disruptors, lawmakers, newsmakers, and even the President of the United States. These are the leaders shaping the future of America and the world.
Starting point is 00:09:15 Listen to Podforce One with me, Miranda Devine, every week on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcast. You don't want to miss an episode. And here's a very vivid example. So yesterday, President Biden's spokesperson, Coringe, Jean-Pierre was asked about high prices. Go. We have seen, now, to be clear, we have seen grocery prices come down over the past year or more. And so that is important.
Starting point is 00:09:46 And a lot of that is the work that's been done from this administration. The president has called out companies, right, who we know we're doing just that, raising the cost. And but what we believe is that we want to make sure that Americans are not played for suckers. That's false. Grocery prices are not coming down, and I don't know of one company, specifically, that Mr. Biden has called out. Do you? Okay, so Mr. John Pierre is an expert at just saying stuff that isn't true. Here is the truth. All right. So, federal data says that home prices under President Biden have risen 21 percent since 2021. 21 percent grocery prices up. In the last year, Okay, grocery prices are up 1.1%. Okay, less than in the past two years, but still a rise. Come back to me. So, Ms. Jean-Pierre is ill-informed.
Starting point is 00:10:50 I'm being kind. Okay? She doesn't care. Why should she care? She could say anything she wants, and nobody's going to hold her accountable. And the people don't pay attention to her anyway. I know that. But it's my job to correct a record.
Starting point is 00:11:11 So what about Vice President Harris's tax plan? She wants to raise taxes in America by $5 trillion over 10 years. But she says that the country will make a lot of that back. I don't know. Nobody knows. She also says that if you earn less than $400,000, you're not going to be a, affected by these massive tax heights. Okay, number one, she wants to raise a corporate tax to 28% from 21%. All right, it's a pretty big hike. Then she wants to raise taxes on wealthy
Starting point is 00:11:49 wage earners to 45% from 39%. Now, that's not including state and local. So here in New York, where I am, all right, I would be paying about 60%. 60, 60, 6-0, to various governments in taxation. Well, I'm not going to do that, okay? It's not worth it, not worth it. And you'll see in a massive flight. I think it's bad now, people leaving New York, California, Illinois, Massachusetts. It'll be triple if that happens.
Starting point is 00:12:29 Now, she can't raise those taxes unless the, Democrats control the House and the Senate. Keep that in mind. Okay. She wants to impose a minimum 25% tax on people who have net worth of more than $100 million. So say you're retired and you don't work, but you have money in the bank and investments that are worth more than $100 million. You have a house, you have a stock portfolio, you have whatever. So then you're going to pay a quarter in a wealth tax to the feds. That's unconstitutional. They can't seize your private property according to the Constitution. But this is what the woman wants to do. So what are the unintended consequences? Well, I ask to get the best guy on the tax, and we don't want ideology here. We want
Starting point is 00:13:21 facts. His name is Scott Hodge. He's the President Emeritus of the Tax Foundation. He's got a new book out. It's called Taxocracy. What you don't know about taxes and how they rule your daily life. All right, he joins us now from Washington, D.C. We're pleased to have you, Mr. Hodge. So I've always believed and seen, because I run three corporations, small, but nevertheless, I have to pay all kinds of health costs and all that. When my taxation goes up, as Kamala Harris would imposed, then I have to pass that cost along. So that's what happens, right? Companies have to pay more in taxes. They pass it along to consumers. Is that what generally happens in a capitalistic society? A lot of effects come from raising taxes, Bill. And when you
Starting point is 00:14:20 raise taxes on corporations, economists have actually found, in addition to the costs that are passed along to consumers, we see a lot of those costs passed along to workers in the form of lower wages. And in fact, some studies have found quite interestingly that the most harmed workers are what we call marginal workers, like women, low skilled workers and younger workers. They see their wages reduced the most from those higher corporate taxes. I mean, we've all heard the adage when you tax something to get less of it. And, you know, and that's what we're why politicians tax things like sin taxes or, you know, taxes on cigarettes or wine or beer because they want to control the consumption of those goods. The same thing happens with income
Starting point is 00:15:09 and investment and business. Let's get specific. So you're saying that if companies have to pay more tax, they're going to lay off workers to bring their costs of doing business down, correct? Correct. Correct. Okay. So that's number one. Fewer jobs. Number two, and I believe that this rise of 21% in food prices, is a tax on the American home. It's a tax because it didn't have to happen. It was driven by misguided spending policies coming out of the Biden administration. Am I wrong? No, that's exactly right. I mean, when you put that much government money, into the economy, you're going to get inflation.
Starting point is 00:15:58 And back to your original point about the ultimate costs of those tax increases, my colleagues here at the Tax Foundation have modeled the Biden-Harris tax increase plan that was put out earlier this year, we found that it would reduce the number of jobs in the economy by over 800,000. So 800,000 Americans would lose their jobs as a result of tax increases, and you'd see wages being reduced across the board. Sure. You take less or you don't.
Starting point is 00:16:26 Yeah, or we'll find somebody who will. Right. Yeah. You take, and it's interesting because the converse is true. In California, they raised the minimum wage for fast food workers to $20. And now the prices of the food went up for the consumers, and the hours for the workers and McDonald's and others went down. Of course.
Starting point is 00:16:50 In case they don't work in many hours. Now, this may be an unfair question, and if you don't want to answer it, I understand. Do you believe that Vice President Harris understands the economic implications of a vastly higher tax base in America? Not at all. I think she's driven by ideology, and progressives understand, or at least want, to make the tax code much more progressive, meaning tilted more to the rich, but they also want to use the tax code to redistribute that income from the top to the bottom. And what a lot of people don't understand is that the United States already has a very progressive tax system. In fact, we tax the rich much more than most European countries, and we use the tax code to pass along to the poor much more than many European countries as well. She wants to make the tax code more redistributive, meaning take more of that income, pass it along to the low income people through things like the child tax credit and other sort of welfare through the tax code, if you will. but shouldn't the government have a responsibility to try to get less affluence Americans
Starting point is 00:18:04 to try to have policies that improve their circumstance? Any of these policies should be tied to work effort. They shouldn't just be a handout through the tax code. And right now we've turned the IRS into almost an extension of the welfare state. Because look at all the programs that it's managing and everything from childcare to environmental issues, transportation, it's subsidizing cars, solar panels on your roof, all of these different things we're asking the IRS to do, and it's simply not capable of doing that. And she wants to use that IRS to do more of those kinds of things in delivering
Starting point is 00:18:44 benefits to various constituencies and favored groups here in the United States. I think it's worse than that. I think she's a socialist, but I don't know, I don't know whether she understands what a socialist is. And I'm not being mean because the woman has never, ever given an interview on economics, ever. Hey, it's Sean Spicer from the Sean Spicer Show podcast, reminding you to tune into my show every day to get your daily dose inside the world of politics. President Trump and his team are shaking up Washington like never before, and we're here to cover it from all sides, especially on the topics the mainstream media won't. Every morning, I'll bring you the stories that matter, plus the news people actually talk about.
Starting point is 00:19:47 The juicy details in the worlds of politics, business, pop culture, and everything in between. It's what you want from the New York Post wrapped up in one snappy show. Ask your smart speaker to play the NY Postcast podcast. Listen and subscribe on Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. So she ties in with Bernie Sanders a few years ago with the Medicare for All Act, which would wipe out private medical insurance in America. Okay. Now, you couldn't wipe it out entirely. That's unconstitutional. But you could make it very hard for doctors to have a concierge service and charge more than the government tells them they can charge.
Starting point is 00:20:31 You can really terrorize those doctors. She co-signs that bill. That's a socialistic bill. Bernie Sanders admits it. That's socialism. And I think Kamalares would have no problem with Washington, D.C., running the entire marketplace, the entire economy. dictating what prices you can have, how much money you can make, what material goods you can have before they come in and start taking stuff away from you. I think that she'd be fine
Starting point is 00:21:02 with that. Am I wrong? She's already hinted that she's in favor of doing something about price gouging. So they would have government bureaucrats stepping in to determine what are legitimate profits and what are simply price gouging. Now, I mean, that's kind of like, you know, to deciding, you know, what's pornography? It's in the eyes of the beholder. These bureaucrats would decide for themselves what they consider to be price gouging and what are legitimate profits and they would try to control them. Well, the government would put a percentage. You can make this much money if you're Heinz ketchup. Right. That's what that's socialism. Okay. Right. And I think she's a socialist. I think that's what the progressive movement wants. They want to run the entire
Starting point is 00:21:49 American economy out of Washington because they think that capitalism is evil, that it exploits minorities, all right, and women, and they're going to wipe out the private marketplace. Now, then you go into the Constitution. A wealth tax to me, because private property is sacrosanct. Founding fathers said Americans have a right to private property. You, the government, can't seize it. by taxing unrealized gains on your house or on your stock portfolio, bond portfolio, that's basically taxing your stuff, all right? Now, you can say, oh, they do a property tax, I do all of that stuff. Well, that's a local situation, and the local people have the right to fund the schools
Starting point is 00:22:37 and the roads and all that. But Washington telling me, I want 25% of whatever you have every year. I mean, that's just insane. And I think it'll get thrown out in federal court. Well, and not only that, we have examples from around the world to prove how unworkable this is. Norway increased their wealth tax two years ago, and they saw a flight and exodus of millionaires and billionaires who moved out of Norway to low tax places like Switzerland in order to avoid those high taxes. Wealth goes to where it's wanted. and if you raise taxes on it, it's very, very mobile, and people will flee.
Starting point is 00:23:19 Capital is very sensitive to high tax rates, and it will flee to find better low tax. And corporations, if it's 28%, they'll go back overseas as well, correct? Exactly. We've seen this show before. We know how these taxes work and how the incentives that they produce to drive companies abroad to find friendlier places to do business. Right. So, you know, you can make an extension that if Kamala Harris is elected and the House and Senate go Democrat, we're going to be in for a real tough recession or even a depression. Mr. Hodge, thanks for helping us out. The book, again, is taxocracy, which you don't know about taxes and how they rule your daily life. Okay, let's go to New York City and migrant chaos. So right now, I'm talking to you 20 miles away from Manhattan.
Starting point is 00:24:12 Front page New York Post yesterday says that police telling Post reported 75% of all arrests are now migrants who are undocumented in New York City. I do not believe that stat. I'm not demeaning the New York Post. It's not backed up. This is anecdotal. There are no stats. I think it's about 40 to 50% based upon what I know of the city.
Starting point is 00:24:42 But there are no cash bail laws here. So if you are a Venezuelan gang member or El Salvadoran M13 and you are arrested for committing a crime in New York City, not only are you out on the street within hours, but the city is forbidden to report your crime to Homeland Security because we have sanctuary city laws here. The combination has created social disorder never before seen in New York City. And the mayor, none knew what to do. Oh, this is bad. This is bad. Yeah, it's bad. So every undocumented criminal wants to come here and Chicago and L.A.
Starting point is 00:25:31 They want to come to those three metropolises because they know they won't be punished. Here's an example. So a guy, 19 years old, kicks a police officer. All right, his name is Darwin, Andres Gomez, Esquiel. All right? He pleads guilty. There he is smirking after he pled guilty to kicking a police officer in Times Square. They give him a year.
Starting point is 00:25:57 That means he's going to be out in way less than a year for kicking a police officer. All right. Now, you get kicked into facts. face, you get kicked in a groin. I mean, that's a serious situation. No. So the anarchy that we in New York are experiencing is laid directly at the open border policies of Joe Biden. I think Kamala Harris can address that? You think any journalist who would ever ask her about that? This is the danger here. Not only as Kamala Harris knew nothing about economics, and I'm positive of that, okay? But she can't connect the unintended consequences of that insane open border policy, which she supported.
Starting point is 00:26:50 And you've got millions of people going to vote for her? It doesn't all saying you get what you deserve. I hope the United States doesn't deserve Kamala Harris. Smart life. Okay, so there is a website, W-E-B-M-D, WebM-D. They run a study from the American Psychological Association. It's an interesting study. It says that Americans are the most stressed people in the world, outside of the war zone people.
Starting point is 00:27:23 All right? 27% of respondents say they can't function because they have so much stress. This is why we go to drugs and alcohol. and other things because people are stressed like crazy. 76% say they are under stress, they can still function. Now, the study that goes on to say that you can bring your stress level down by reading, which I've always believed to be true. There are two things that bring my stress level down.
Starting point is 00:27:56 Reading and listening to music. And I'm not taking any drugs or alcohol, doing either of those things. In fact, when I read, I learn, and when I listen to music, it's a pleasure. Okay. So I think that's absolutely true. Crazy stressed, you pick up a book, you escape a little bit, learn something, whatever. That's why I write books, okay, so that you can enjoy yourself by learning, get your stress level down. And the music is obviously very soothing, at least to me it is.
Starting point is 00:28:29 But this is something I did not know. If you read on a regular basis, and I'm not talking about reading little stupid things on this, I'm talking about reading a book or even listening to the book, okay, on audio. You have less of a chance of getting dementia in your old age, and dementia is becoming a huge problem here because your mind is active, keeping your mind, it's like going to the gym and lifting, you know, you're keeping your body active in shape. You can't keep your mind in shape. Okay?
Starting point is 00:29:04 And reading is the easiest best way to do it. So I'm going to give you some, besides confronting the president, which, of course, I want you to read. I'm going to give you some books throughout the month of September that I feel worthy. That might help out with this, smart life. All right, the Reagan movie. I got a lot of questions. Did you see the Reagan movie?
Starting point is 00:29:23 Number one, I did not see it. I was the executive producer of Killing Reagan, a very fine movie based on my book, Killing Revin. I know all about Ronald Reagan. He is featured prominently in confronting the president's, didn't really feel the need to run out and see the Reagan movie, which is an homage to the former president, okay, which is fine. I think he's a very good president, but I already did the movie thing, my movie.
Starting point is 00:29:52 is what it looked like. Go. I know I'm the new kid on the block. I mean, I wasn't around when you all had your 20-point lead and all. But it seems to me we're just a little bit tight. Governor, why do you want to be president? Oh, you don't know. Well, let's pretend I don't. It's as simple as you can to distill it down to its essence, so to speak.
Starting point is 00:30:17 Well, we're at sea. The country's lost, and I know the way back. How? How do we get back? Get the government off the people's backs, fix the economy, and beat the Russians. That sounds like a good direction to me. That was Tim Matheson. Dennis Quaid plays Reagan, and I hear Mr. Quaid is very good. That was Tim Matheson. Maybe remember him from Animal House. He was Otter. Okay. I thought he was excellent as Ronald Reagan.
Starting point is 00:30:50 So anyway, if you have a chance, you can always get the movies we have killing Jesus, killing Lincoln, killing Kennedy, and killing Reagan, get them on pay-per-view anytime you want. The Reagan movie did very well, the one out now in the theaters, made more than $10 million four-day gross over Labor Day weekend. That's excellent. So congrats. This day in history, September 4th, 1609, a long time ago, 1609. Henry Hudson first arrived on the island of Manhattan. It was an Indian name then.
Starting point is 00:31:26 And he kind of sailed up the river on the west side of Manhattan. And he was looking for a passageway to Asia. So Hudson was an Englishman. He worked for the Dutch East India Company, not a government. And the Dutch wanted to find a passageway through the new world to Asia. They thought it existed. Of course, it doesn't. Got to go all the way up to the Arctic Circle, and that's not a passageway up there.
Starting point is 00:31:54 Okay, so Hudson made a number of voyages over here and mapped it out. It was Chesapeake Bay, New York, all the way up to Albany. Then he went to Canada, the Canada thing. So in 1611, he's stuck in the ice, okay, up there. His boat is named the Discovery. he can't get out. His crew mutinies. Henry Hudson, not many people know this. They put Hudson, his 19-year-old son, and seven sailors who were loyal to him on a little lifeboat. And they pop it out into the Arctic Sea. Henry Hudson never seen again. They of course died in a cold from
Starting point is 00:32:44 deprivation. So people in the Hudson River, Hudson Bay, in Canada, they don't know that. Henry really, that was bad. But he discovered Manhattan 415 years ago today. I don't think it was a sanctuary city back then because there was no city. He bought it from the Indians later on. Back with the final thought in a moment. All right, here's a final thought, plan ahead. I'm already planning for Christmas. All right. Why? Because I'm going to go out to California to visit friends and there are things I want to do. I'm not going to go. I'm going to go the day after Christmas out to California. It's got lots of friends out there. I haven't been out there in a while. So I'm planning it. But you've got to get your airline reservations, your hotel reservation.
Starting point is 00:33:38 You've got to get them in line. If you want to go to the places. that I want to go to, which are the popular places. Okay? So I'm not going to tell exactly where I've been because I don't want to frighten the citizenry, but I'm planning it now. You've got to stay ahead of things, all right, four or five months ahead.
Starting point is 00:33:57 Some people even plan on their summer vacations next year, 2025 now, and that's not too far out. But always remember, you've got to get everything refundable. because things happen. You've got to have your airlines refundable, your hotel is refundable, and usually hotels have fairly liberal policies in that regard.
