Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, Bill O'Reilly here. Welcome to the No Spin News for Monday, March 20th, 2003. Stand up for your country. So I'm back, obviously. I'm talking to you. And we have a huge newsday, one of the biggest newsdays I've seen in months. And we're going to give it to you straight, as we always do. As usual, the reporting about Donald Trump's criminal situation is misleading and ridiculous,
Starting point is 00:00:40 but we'll strain it all out for you. And we're going to begin this evening with my dinner last Tuesday evening at Ma Alago with Donald Trump. That is the subject of this evening's talking points memo. So, as you may know, I've been friends with the former president for about 33 years now. I wrote a book about him, The United States of Trump, which I think is the best book. It tells you all about Donald Trump, why he does what he does, how he got there. Okay? So we get together a few times a year, mostly as friends, not anything official.
Starting point is 00:01:21 Some of what he said to me on Tuesday night was on the record, some off. I will, of course, respect that. And I'm going to tell you as much as I can tell you. Now, I did not talk to him about his legal situation. I didn't think that would be appropriate at dinner. But I did talk about politics, his reelection campaign, how he sees the world as it stands now. Number one, Donald Trump is confident he will win the Republican nomination for president, that he'll prevail in the primary system.
Starting point is 00:01:56 He's very confident in that. But he understands that in a general election, it's going to be much more difficult because so many people don't like him. He knows that, all right? The most surprising thing that he told me was that he would consider putting Governor DeSantis as the number two on the ticket, Trump DeSantis. Now, I don't think he's broken. it with the governor. In fact, I know he has not. Okay. I said to him, you want me to broach it?
Starting point is 00:02:35 Because I can do that. And he didn't really answer one way or the other. So I'm not going to do it. All right, as it stands now. Again, I'm a journalist. I'm not intruding on politics, but I love my country. Now, a Trump to Santa's ticket would be a winner unless Michelle Obama gets into the race. There is no other Democrat, including Joe Biden, who I don't even think is going to run. You all already know that that could defeat a Trump to Santa's ticket as things stand now. Would Governor Santos do it? I have no idea. I don't know him.
Starting point is 00:03:14 I've never spoken to him. And I will obviously have to speak to him soon. but I don't know. I would tell you that. But I was surprised because I thought that Donald Trump would shut that down because Trump's taking shots at him and all that. But he didn't. And that was the most important thing. I gleaned from the dinner. Now, Trump sees himself this way as a very, very successful president. And he doesn't really understand why other Americans don't see that. He understands that his personality and his presentation alienates people. He does understand that. But he doesn't understand why every American doesn't see how well he ran the country
Starting point is 00:04:02 in his own mind. I concur with that a lot. You know I felt, and I do feel today, that Donald Trump was a good president as far as policy is concerned. And I don't. I don't. How could you dispute that compared to now? I don't know. Now, then we got into Putin and Xi, which is very, very important, and we'll get to that a little bit later in a broadcast. He sees Putin and Xi attacking the USA in various ways, okay, because of Joe Biden's weakness. He sees the Afghanistan thing as the turning point.
Starting point is 00:04:46 and both Putin and she believe that Biden is a very, very weak man. And the Russian downing of the drone last week pretty much reinforces that. And we'll get to that a little later on as well. All right, so he obviously dealt with Xi and Putin in a far different way than Biden does. So Trump dealt with them one-on-one, all right, here's what going to happen. If you do this is what's going to happen, bum, bum, bum. He cut through it, as he always does and made deals with them, Putin in shape. Biden does not do that.
Starting point is 00:05:27 That is the difference in style. Four big issues, Trump understands them well. Economy, all right, that's far and away the biggest issue. Okay. Collapses the social and criminal justice system. Huge issue. And we're going through that now. And we'll illuminate that in a moment.
Starting point is 00:05:48 The border, crisis, and Russia and China. Now, Russia and China in a domestic campaign will be number four. Unless China invades Taiwan in his war, well, yeah. Okay. All in all, I spent more time with Donald Trump at dinner than I've ever spent with him in about two hours. when we used to go to games, Trump had like a 90-minute rule. You'd stay in the game for about 90 minutes.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Split. But, and it was back and forth. There's nobody else around. All right? And my log of the food is good. So I didn't know when I went, you know, how long dinner was going to be or what his schedule was like.
Starting point is 00:06:33 It was boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. I got a lot of stuff. A lot of stuff that I can't tell you, but I can use it in my reporting down the road, which is why you watch and listen to me. Because I have, and I'm not bragging, I'm just reporting unique access to Donald Trump. But I don't give him any quarter.
Starting point is 00:06:57 If he screws up, I tell you, and you know that. That's a memo. All right, this indictment is, let me put it this way. This will hurt the Democrats far more than it will hurt, Donald Trump or the Republicans. I mean, this is a fiasco. So I learned this morning that the Secret Service is going to block any arrest and handcuffs or photo op. That's not going to happen.
Starting point is 00:07:27 The Secret Service is told the local authorities in New York City that they're not going to be able to extradite Donald Trump from Florida to New York and Perp Walker or anything. It's not happening. So if he is charged in Manhattan, the district attorney Alvin Bragg, if Bragg does that, and the Trump lawyers believe that Bragg will, okay, it'll be done virtually. Or it'd be done on his Zoom or something like that. Donald Trump is not coming to New York to be indicted. That's what I've learned from the Secret Service. Now, tomorrow, if he comes to New York and he's indicted, I'm going to look like a fool.
Starting point is 00:08:10 But I got to tell you what I'm told. Okay. Number two, this is about falsifying business records, which is a misdemeanor, all right, in the state of New York. Also, the statute of limitations on this misdemeanor, falsifying business records, is two years. This has been going on for seven years. So there's no way this case even gets to a courtroom. This is all for shelf. Doesn't get there. Not going to happen. All right. Now, Bragg is trying to bump up the misdemeanor to a felony, something he never does. In fact, Bragg, 50% of the
Starting point is 00:08:53 crimes in New York City that are felony charged, he busts them down to misdemeanors. So people won't have to serve jail time, which is why we have an insane criminality problem in New York because Alvin Bragg. Okay. Bragg is financed by George. Soros. So keep that in mind. Far, far left guy. So according to Bragg, Trump spent money to silence Stormy Daniels and a woman named Karen McDougal, former playmate of the year or something I don't even know, in some kind of personal situation. I do not know what happened. I don't really care what happened. All right.
Starting point is 00:09:38 But money did change hands. And Brad says that's a felony in New York. No. And the feds already looked at it. The Federal Election Commission looked at it, declined to prosecute. And the Justice Department did. They looked at it. Nothing.
Starting point is 00:09:54 The reason being that if you pay someone and keep quiet, that's not a crime. That's not a crime. okay you can choose to do that what brag is saying is that trump did it so he could run for office and and he did it in a campaign context impossible of proof can't prove it even worse is that Hillary Clinton's campaign and this is not what aboutism I'm just reporting the story okay Hillary Clinton's campaign on March 29th, 2022, last year was fined $113,000 by the Federal Election Commission for using campaign money, donated money, to buy the phony steel dossier, which accused Donald Trump of Russian collusion, which the feds then said was bogus. that's a thousand times worse than stormy daniels was hillary clinton prosecuted for that no okay it's a new york state resident so it's not what about is it's about our justice system they paid the fine and this was cute
Starting point is 00:11:28 So Clinton's campaign paid $8,000 of the $113,000, all right. The DNC paid the other $105,000. Can you imagine if Trump did that? I bet you didn't even know that. I bet you didn't even know it. Media ignored it. That was just last year. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:53 The only other president arrested and convicted of anything was U.S. grant. All right, this happened in 1876, and old Ulysses liked to drive his horse-drawn carriage around D.C. at the fastest speed possible, cop pulled him over and arrested him. He was fined $20. Back then, it would have been $500 today. It's the only other president ever arrested and convicted of anything, U.S. Grant. Now, the media is hysterical about all this, but even the far-left media knows this is not going to be. going to play well for D.A. Bragg and the Democratic Party. However, they're given at the old college try. Roll the tape. I mean, him being indicted on, you know, on a charge related to campaign finance, tax and business fraud, again, doesn't have to be the end of the world for him and
Starting point is 00:12:51 could potentially be a positive for him. But if he's asking for a militant, race, racially tinged violent response from his followers, that's something that won't be good for him. That's a Rachel Maddell. Somehow this is racial now. Somehow we got into the race. I don't know how. I don't know how we did that, but racially tinged. It's so absurd. I mean, you look at it, this is like Mad Magazine. Remember Mad Magazine? This is just, how did this get into the racially tinged thing. It's just, okay. Now, the latest is that Jim Jordan and the House Republicans are now going to call Alvin Bragg to testify in front of their committees to explain why he's doing this when it's
Starting point is 00:13:49 not even legal what he's doing, because the statute of limitations are run out. So now Bragg is in the middle of this. and I'm telling you, it's going to turn. So if you are a Trump supporter or a Republican, this is going to hurt the Democrats. Any fair-minded American, no matter what party or ideology, knows what this is. This is a bunch of bogus garbage trying to damage Trump
Starting point is 00:14:26 so that his political fortunes collapse. That's what this is. And you can make all kinds of legal arguments. I mean, Bragg himself can be sued for malicious prosecution. Power, politics, and the people behind the headlines. I'm Miranda Devine, New York Post columnist, and the host of the brand new podcast, Podforce One. Every week, I'll sit down
Starting point is 00:14:56 for candid conversations with Washington's most powerful disruptors, lawmakers, lawmakers, and even the president of the United States. These are the leaders shaping the future of America and the world. Listen to Podforce One with me, Miranda Devine, every week on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcast. Starting point is 00:15:51 Make sure you tune in. at Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcast. It's, I don't think District Attorney Bragg is a smart man. He's destroyed the fabric of New York City civility. One man has destroyed it. But this is beyond the pale. Now, if you have any questions, oh, one more thing. If Donald Trump is indicted and has to go through the process, the case will be thrown out.
Starting point is 00:16:27 But this assures that the House will refer criminal charges against the Biden family, perhaps the President himself. If that happens, 100 percent, the House will say the Biden family committed crimes. That will be to payback. Mark my words. You disagree. You have any clarity issues on this. You're confused. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. President's scheduled today at two things.
Starting point is 00:17:06 He hosted a Farsi day at the White House. Farsi is the language of the Persians and the Iranians. So everybody's speaking Farsi there. And then Ted Lassow, which is a sitcom on, I don't even know what it's on. I watched it, okay. It's all right. They come to the White House to address mental health and overall well-being. That's it.
Starting point is 00:17:34 That's what Biden did today. I did thousand times more than Biden today. Okay. So I mentioned that Trump feels that Russia and China are going to up it against the USA say because they think Biden's weak. And I'm looking for some kind of reaction to the Russians shooting down a U.S. drone in international waters. You would think there would be something, right? The only thing we have is State Department spokesperson, Ned Price, going, well, it was most likely a mistake. And then two days after he said that, Putin dragged in the pilots
Starting point is 00:18:12 who killed the drone and gave him big medals. I don't think that was a mistake. Okay. It doesn't seem like it. So what's Biden doing? I think Biden's still back on the balloon thing. He's running around going, did we get all the balloons? No, Mr. Brethren, we got the drone thing now. I mean, come on. You know, nothing. Oh, yeah, it has shit down the U.S. drone. So believe me when I tell you that Putin knew exactly what was happening. Nobody does anything without. Putin's permission of Russia. She is over there for three days. Actually, not three days, but she rolls into Moscow today. Big Dog and Pony. There they are. Two villains. Two biggest villains on earth. Well, you throw the mullahs in there, but they're not as powerful. And they hate each other, by the way, she and Putin. But they are going to band together to try to give the USA a hard time. And that's what that is all about. I'll watch it. Putin,
Starting point is 00:19:16 by the way, has been charged by the International Criminal Court, the ICC, with war crimes. And you know how this matters is that Putin goes to a country, and most countries are, developed countries are in the ICC. You can get arrested, cuffs, all right? So that's really the only thing. Yeah, Putin's not going to do that, but it cuts down on his spring break travel plans. Silicon Valley Bank, okay, it collapsed last week while I was, no, a little bit before when I went vacation, biggest bank in Silicon Valley, and they donated before the collapse $74 million to Black Lives Matter movement agencies, 74 million, just gave it to them. Wonder why the bank collapsed, that might be a reason.
Starting point is 00:20:12 Okay? All of these banks, by the way, that are collapsing were investing in cryptocurrency or diversity currency or global warming stuff that's never going to pay off. The signature bank, I lost money. I'm not going to tell you how much because I was weeping. It's not that bad, but it's bad. And it was not a good day for my broker, by the way. I said, Barney Frank is on the board of the signature bank and you didn't tell me. I tore this guy to pieces on the O'Reilly factor for his irresponsibility in the mortgage collapse of 2008. And now he's on Bank of Signature, and I got preferred stock in it,
Starting point is 00:20:58 and you don't tell me? I would have never done that. My fault, I guess I got to watch everything, but I lost money on it because, again, signature bank, and cryptocurrency and all this other insane stuff. that's what this is now for you there's a lot of panic if you have money in the bank it is insured up to $250,000 by the federal government if the bank has FDIC insurance and you better damn well make sure it does 250 that's what you'll get back if the bank goes
Starting point is 00:21:38 over the cliff. Smart life. There's three things you need. I've said this how many times to you. A good doctor who likes you and wants to keep you on the planet. A good attorney, harder than a good doctor. A person who will take your interests at heart. Okay?
Starting point is 00:21:59 And a financial advisor. Now, my guy made a mistake. No doubt about it. But he's been with me for 40 years. So I'm not going to damn like that. Okay? And everybody goes, ah, financial advisor. It is hard. There's a website that tries to make it easier. I cannot say this is a great website. It's up to you to check it out. And then you make a determination called smartasset.com. Smartasset.com. Okay. It hooks you up with financial advisors. And then you have a conversation and you say, here. here's my situation. What would you do? What do you think I should do? And then you could hire them or you or whatever. Smartasset.com. Up to you. I'm not endorsing it. I got my private guys.
Starting point is 00:22:56 This guy's going to wash my car, my broker for the next 18 months. All right. Now, on a subject of money, is a guy in New York City. His name is John Casimittes. He owns WABC Radio, the big legacy station in New York. One Casamintini's bought the station. It was like 26th in the market. It was just a wreck. Okay? So John doesn't have media experience in a sense that he's not a guy who runs media companies,
Starting point is 00:23:27 but he saw that this was a bargain, that people who owned WEC were giving it away, and he bought it. So now, I think it's three years after his purchase. The station's number one in the morning, and competitive all day long, overall news talk, I think at number two, full disclosure, I am on the station. Now, I'm not saying it's because of me that the ratings rocketed, but I didn't hurt it, okay? But I like working for Casamatidis, or I wouldn't do it. I don't have to do it, and he carries the no-spin news at 9 p.m. on WABC every night. and it gets a big number a m radio at night you know that's they say it's obsolete it's not not
Starting point is 00:24:15 in new york city not in a tri-state area now casamitidis came from greece a little island in the mediterranean he had nothing father had nothing they came here to new york and now he's a billionaire with a bee it's no hedge fund he didn't invent Facebook. So he's got a book. Book is, how far do you want to go? Lessons from a common sense billionaire. Why I read the book? Because I'm a common sense guy. Okay. And John Casamatidis joins us now from New York City. So what I took away from this book is that you did it on hard work. That was almost 100%. You just worked and worked and worked and worked and worked and worked and then success followed. Am I wrong?
Starting point is 00:25:10 No, you're not wrong. There's no substitute for hard work. All these people that work three days a week and then don't want to come in for five days a week, they're not going to make it. And, you know, you say, well, we get lucky sometimes. But luck is preceded by hard work. And, you know, my two grandfathers came to America in 1913. I didn't come. My father brought me to America. I was six months old after World War II. We grew up in Harlem. We grew up in the poor side of town. And I love America. I'm an immigrant. I love America. I believe in immigration. But at five years old or six years old, I was taken down and I swore allegiance to the United States of America. All these migrants coming through, who are they swearing allegiance? to. And my two, my father's two brothers, Bill, had to sign on a dotted line that if my father
Starting point is 00:26:14 couldn't pay the bills, they would pay it for him. So my father ended up working seven days a week so he would never have to go to his brothers for money. And in the Greek expression, it was called Pilotimo, in other words, having pride for your family, having pride for your, your, and not to be able, not to cry over, you know, what happened to me, the scenario. So I went to school. I went to, my father believed in education, my mother believed in education. And I wanted to write this book. So to prove out that anybody, no matter where you are in America, there's an opportunity to
Starting point is 00:27:05 make it. And if you work hard, keep your nose clean and be a common sense person. And you're going to reach a lot of forks in the road. You can make it successful too. Okay. How old were you when you first started working? Well, I was working while I was going to college for a guy I called a big brother or cousin. So while I was going to NYU, I was working in a grocery store. And in my senior year, he says to me, I'm having troubles with my uncle. You have to buy my share of the business. I said, what are you talking about? I'm going to school. So $10,000. I bought half the store that he was partners with his uncle because the family was, his family was having troubles. They would argue every day, three times a day. So I, you know, I bought it. I went to
Starting point is 00:28:05 school, you know, those days, college was five days a week. I don't know what it is now. I'm, you know, kids only go to school three days a week, five days a week. I worked all day long, I went to school all day long, worked till midnight and so on and so on and so on. And me and his uncle never had an argument. So you know what the definition of partners not having an argument is? Make a profit. You'll never have an argument. Okay. Did you take any financial chances to become a billionaire. I mean, hard work got you. And I think most people who watch this broadcast who are watching or listening to us today, John, are hard workers. And they have kept their nose clean, although I do get letters from convicts all the time. When did it accelerate into true
Starting point is 00:28:58 wealth? Because you make a nice living, working hard, okay? But they didn't into the stratosphere where you are financially. What was the key to that? Well, I was in a supermarket business in my early 20s, and then I realized that you can't stay in business unless you own the real estate. So I would say in 1977, when the world was coming to an end in New York, I put excess cash flow of $5 million from the supermarket business into the real estate business. And when I woke up one day, five years later or four years later that that five million dollars was worth a hundred million dollars because it was luck so that was my first hundred million okay all right so you did take chances because the five million could have gone down the drain if the city had not recovered
Starting point is 00:29:49 from the late 70s which was a disaster final question for you we live in a country now where at least half the country believes the federal government should take care of everything. You hear it every day. You know what I'm talking about. We'll give you this. We'll give you. Biden's opposed to boy for this. We're going to give you, give you, give you, give you, give you, give you, give you. How do you convince people that's not the right road? Well, you know, I tell people that you can't just take it all. You know, what did, Margaret, it was a agriculture, sooner or later, you run out of other people's money. And it said, what I said, contribute to success is you come to a lot of forks in the road and you can either zig or you
Starting point is 00:30:47 zag and you have to pick the right fork in the road. And having the government, the government, I tell you, do you trust them to make all your decisions? Would you make any, in the government trustee of your child's estate and you laugh about it when you even think about it and I think the way we always do it Bill is that people have to do the right thing make the right decisions for their own families have to make the right decisions for for their companies and every time the government the fears, guess what? We lose. That's right. There's no doubt about it. Self-Reliance. Well, I'm glad you bought WABC. So now I'm the big blabbermouth on the station. Well, you're doing a great job.
Starting point is 00:31:44 In my hometown. People love you. Yeah, that, listen, we're rolling on WabC. The book is, how far do you want to go? So I recommend it highly. It's very, you know, quick read. And if you have children or grandchildren that are kind of drifting around, this is a book they might want to take a look at. Hey, John, we'll talk to you later on your program this afternoon, and we appreciate you coming on. And thanks for writing a book. I look forward. Hey, I'm Caitlin Becker, the host of the New York Postcast, and I've got exactly what you need to start your weekdays. Every morning, I'll bring you the stories that matter, plus the news people actually talk about. The juicy details in the world's politics, business, pop culture, and everything in between.
Starting point is 00:32:28 It's what you want from the New York Post wrapped up in one snappy show. Ask your smart speaker to play the NY Postcast podcast. Listen and subscribe on Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Okay. All right. Jimmy Kimmel also hosting the Oscars, which I didn't watch, because show business now boars me, officially boars me. But he made a crack about the Irish that I want to talk about. Go.
Starting point is 00:32:56 It was some year for diversity and inclusion that we have nominees from every corner of Dublin. Five Irish actors are nominated tonight, which means the odds of another fight on stage just went way up. Now, that was a good line, okay? But some in Ireland got offended. All right?
Starting point is 00:33:20 I'm not offended. That was a clever, cute line. But what if Jimmy Camelette said, hey, we got five African-American nominees tonight, which means the odds of an ever drive-by shooting go way up. Think about it. Think about it. Would that have been greeted with, oh, yes, ha-ha. No. Kimmel never would have worked again. Kimmel would have been out. Crucified, burnt at the stake. Irish okay, because we're white. All right. Just want to point it out. out, but I thought it was a good. Whoever wrote that line? Funny line. Stay in history, 171 years ago,
Starting point is 00:34:01 March 20th, 1852, Uncle Tom's Cabin is published. One of the greatest books ever, a novel, written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. She was born in 1811 in Connecticut, daughter of a minister. Connecticut was a free state, okay? She moved to Cincinnati in 1832. and got involved with the abolitionist movement from which Uncle Tom's Cabin, the novel, came. Now, incredible success. In 1852, this is before the Civil War. This novel told 300,000 copies.
Starting point is 00:34:43 In a country, I don't even know the population, but it was not close to what it is now. And then, by 1857, five years later, two million copies. They don't want it worldwide. There is no estimate of how many copies of Uncle Tom's Cabin have been sold because it's just nobody can keep track of it. All right, but it is phenomenal.
Starting point is 00:35:06 Change the course of history. I have a signed copy of the book by Harriet Beatrice or Stowe. And it is one of my most prized possessions. Uncle Tom's Cabin, if you haven't read it, you might want to consider it. Back with the mail and a final thought about my trip to Florida. We'll be right back. Okay, let's go to the mail. Michael Skiles, Charleston, West Virginia, Mr. O, during your most deserved time off, many events have taken place.
Starting point is 00:35:34 Bank crisis, Trump's announcement of his arrest, pending arrest, Putin visiting Maripole, Ukraine, taunting Zelensky, and drag queens invading children's book readings. Okay. Well, we got everything but drag queens, which is, you know, there are. a number of American parents who believe this is healthy for their children. There's nothing anybody can do about it. Okay, nothing anybody can do about that. They're a loony parents. Ellis Deno, St. Louis, since when is it a crime to pay somebody to settle a lawsuit? I don't understand. When a guy's looking to get you, a DA, looking to get you, they'll get you. Diana Julian, Lincoln, California, if Trump is arrested, can he still run for president?
Starting point is 00:36:25 Yes. Now, he's convicted of a felony, then it gets dicey, which he won't be, by the way. But he can run if he's arrested. Al D. Alassia, Chickabay, Massachusetts.
