Local news is in decline across Canada, and this is bad news for all of us.
With less local news, noise, rumors, and misinformation fill the void,
and it gets harder to separate truth from fiction.
That's why CBC News is putting more journalists in more places across Canada,
reporting on the ground from where you live,
telling the stories that matter to all of us,
because local news is big news.
Choose news, not noise.
CBC News.
When you let arrow truffle bubbles melt, everything takes on a creamy, delicious, chocolatey glow.
Like that pile of laundry.
You didn't forget to fold it.
No, it's a new trend.
Rinkled chic.
Feel the arrow bubbles melt.
It's mind bubbling.
Welcome to the No Spin News Weekend Edition.
Well, as I reported last week, I went down to South Florida to give a speech to a Catholic Church.
And this was a book way, way before the Trump-Po-Co controversy.
And I walked into the hall at St. Edward's Basilica in Palm Beach.
I didn't know what to expect.
And that is the subject of this evening's Talking Points memo.
It was pretty calm.
Nobody was angry.
People were confused a bit.
and that's where I come in.
But there wasn't a vibe in the air,
somebody who did something wrong,
or I'm preferring this person over that person.
The crowd was traditional.
I wouldn't say conservative.
It wasn't a MAGA crowd.
It was one guy with a MAGA hat.
Okay?
One, about 500.
And the crowd was church-gold.
people who have an association with St. Edwards, but not a political crowd.
I didn't pick that up at all because it was an extensive Q&A after my opening remarks.
And it wasn't like, oh, how can he do this or how can this guy do that?
Or how can Trump say this?
Or how can Pope Leone?
No, it wasn't like that at all.
It was basically what the deuce is happening in a very calm way.
And it were more women than men at the event because it was in the morning.
I would say confusion.
There was some confusion in the room.
And, of course, everybody wanted to know what the likely outcome of the Iranian conflict will be.
And, of course, I don't know.
Only Jesus knows or God or whatever you want to.
classify it as because I don't know what's going to happen there.
I can give you odds.
I can tell you what's happening, and I certainly will this evening,
but how's it all going to come out?
This is just way, way too much stuff that we don't know in the air.
So I wrote a column yesterday about this,
and I quoted a man from Pennsylvania, wrote me a letter,
and he was heated.
He was mad that we're involved with this
and he didn't like it at all
and quoted him.
So that column is on billowrilly.com.
I don't want to reread it or be redundant.
This evening, you want to read it.
There it is.
We do a Sunday column every week
in addition to every day,
we do a message.
And it's all free on billowrilly.com.
There's no fee for it.
And the dilemma
is that,
the media gets involved. And I said very clearly I could mediate this. I could meet you
in a half an hour. I'd have them both on the same team, both the Pope and the President,
and they be buddies. It's not hard because they're not really opposed to one another. They're
annoyed with one another. There's a big difference between being annoyed and being opposed.
Now, President Trump's annoyed because he wants the Vatican to support actions against evil.
And again, that's confronting evil.
I told him, many on a cover of that book.
And President Trump is going, look, I'm trying to save the lives of human beings here.
And you, the Holy See, are in that business.
So why aren't you on my side?
The Pope's point of view, and he is now backing away from that a bit, all right, is that we don't like any of this conflict.
We don't want any of it kind of unrealistic.
And that's coming from a Catholic because conflict has always been with human beings since Cane and Abel.
enable, you don't know who can't enable are, you got to get busy.
You got to go, you know, but the conflict has always been there.
And the peacemakers, remember, blessed are the peacemakers for they shall see God, I believe
it is.
Their mandate is a lesson of conflict.
All right?
So, Pope Leo doesn't want the conflict.
You don't want any of this.
He doesn't want bellicosity, he doesn't want threats,
he doesn't want gonna blow you up,
he doesn't want any of that.
At the same time, I think the Pope understands
the danger from Iran, I think,
because he's never spelled it out,
and that's not what the Vatican does.
Okay, they didn't spell out the danger
danger of 9-11. They condemn the action, but they're not political scientists over there.
They don't get involved with that at that level. And the Pope made a mistake injecting himself
into this without answering obvious questions. Is the Vatican okay with Iran having a nuclear
weapon? If you're going to get involved, you've got to be able to answer that question. That's a
key question, because that's what it's all about.
All right, here's the latest that we have.
This Iran controlling the Straits of Hormuz is just bull.
I told you this last week.
It's just a bunch of garbage, and it's bit out there by the irresponsible media.
Iran can launch some drones.
It can put mines in the water.
That's not control of anything.
Okay, so on Saturday, more than 30 ships passed through there, the Straits, because the U.S. Navy is now controlling what happens.
Today it was much less.
I'm not exactly sure why that number is going down,
but the insurance companies have everything to do with this.
So the ships that go through can't go through
unless the insurance companies uphold the policies.
That's a big part of this.
and if the insurance companies think there's grave danger or whatever, then they stop.
Then China is also a factor here, and we don't know anything about what China is doing.
Now, President Trump has sent J.D. Vance, the vice president, and you remember on Friday that all the media was saying J.D. Vance isn't going, and he fell.
All a bunch of bull. I mean, I'm sitting there watching lie after lie after lie from these people.
we're talking CNN and MS and, you know, the newspaper or the urban newspaper.
They don't care what they report is true.
They don't care.
It's like the Revolutionary Guard, which apparently now controls Iran.
They don't care how many Iranians get killed.
They'll kill them themselves.
It's the same thing.
Anyway, our negotiating team is in Pakistan.
Nobody knows whether Iran is going to show up.
Wednesday, the treaty, the two weeks, sees fire, stops.
Nobody knows what's going to happen.
That's where we are.
It's dangerous that the Revolutionary Guard is in control.
You'd want to have some kind of moderation or civilian, and these people are just fanatic.
Everybody dies, everybody dies.
It's another challenge.
Let me get the number for you.
I got it here.
Three ships crossed today through the street of Hormuz, 24 ships.
cross through on Saturday. I want to get the number down. Finally, price of gas is pretty much a dollar
more than it was before the Iranian action began. And that's another consideration, not for me,
but for a lot of Americans, they don't want to pay any more money for gas.
Again, the follow-up question is, are you okay with Iran having a nuke?
And then your gas bill goes down.
Is that the trade that you want?
Yeah, the answer is some Americans go, yeah, I don't care when they have a nuke.
You go like this.
But then there's all, how do we know?
And I get into that in the column.
And that's a memo.
You're listening to the No Spin News Weekend Edition.
All right, so the Pope is in Africa.
He's in Equatorial Guinea.
The reason he went over there is that the continent is rising in Catholics,
where most other places are receding.
And he issued his statement trying to tamp down any feud with President Trump.
Go.
The talk that I gave at the prayer meeting for peace a couple days ago was prepared two weeks
ago, well before the president had ever commented on myself and on the message of peace
that I am promoting.
And yet, as it happens, it was looked at as if I was trying to debate again the president,
which is not my interest at all.
Good. I'm glad he said that. And I believe every word he put out there that the peace statement
that he had about the Iranian situation was issued a long time ago. But when it came out,
it collided and Mr. Trump didn't like it. And then the media, here we come. Let's gin up the
controversy. So the Pope is going to be back in Rome, April, 20th.
24th, around there.
And that is an update.
That's, I think we've covered it.
That's where we are.
Joining us have from Washington is Dr. Chad Peknold.
He's associate professor of systematic theology at the Catholic University of America.
Catholic U, we played him in football way back when I was at Maris College.
It's not UNAZ as a liberal university.
Would you, Catholic U at this point?
No, I mean, as universities go, it's less liberal than your average liberal place.
But, you know, a conservative in a university is a unicorn, so there's not many of it.
Okay, but you're not talking about a radical campus like George Washington or American University
or these places that hate Israel and all that.
We're not talking about that, right?
That's right.
We have all the usual kind of dynamics of every American university, but we also have this sense that we are tied to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
It's a church that founded the university.
So we, I think, have some sort of stability, unlike a lot of woke colleges.
Okay.
So you're deeply invested then in Pope Leo and how he's treated and what he says.
and do you believe that Pope Leo did anything wrong here?
Well, I mean, you know, I think always, always with the, with the Pope and with presidents,
it's always best to blame people around them than the person.
I mean, I think there is a whole calm scheme around the Pope and there's a whole calm
to be the president, and I think we have to, you know, maybe reassess how they're going
to think about future discourse between Pope and the president.
is like 2,000 years of conflicts between popes and things to tell us that we should manage this
carefully. And I think we're going to see a lot more of this. But yeah, I think the Pope did not know that he would
walk into a media. No, I agree. I don't think the Pope knew that this was going to stir it up,
but he should have known. He should have. And his people should have known. Right, because Francis, his predecessor,
got into a lot of controversy by basically being an open border guy.
Exactly.
And we've had this problem in the church for a while.
You know, for many, many years, Catholics in America were Democrats.
And now we face a different reality in the Catholic Church in this country
where something like 56 or 58 percent are Republicans and many support the president.
And so we have a new dynamic, a lot of older Catholics,
and certainly that would include bishop.
are still sort of thinking that they should be helpful to the Democratic Party's line as far as they can be.
And that involved the church in all sorts of contracts with the government to help migrants at the borders.
And I think we've gotten some fuzziness from the church on these issues of immigration.
And so it's not surprising that we also still have fuzziness on just war theory.
I think the church's teaching is very clear in print.
You know, if you look up the catechism, the catechism is extremely clear about the, you know, the criteria for just war, and who has the competent authority to make a judgment about its justice. It's not the pope. It's the government authorities who have that.
But I noticed, you know, while Francis was very pro-immigrant, I'm going to tell you about the most unforgettable gift you can get mom this Mother's Day.

Financial stress is hitting an all-time high.
millions of Americans are stretched thin with no extra money, no room to breathe.
And this isn't just lower-income households.
Middle-class families are also running out of options.
If debt has been weighing on you, you are not alone.
And waiting usually makes things worse.
Interest grows.
Minimum payments trap you.

And an open border guy that didn't want any restraint.
As soon as Leo came in, and I put this into the Leo's an American citizen category,
Leo said that no, countries have a right to control their borders,
and they have a right to enforce their laws,
he said that very, very quickly on distancing himself from Francis.
Now, President Trump didn't get that memo, okay?
For some reason, he didn't get that memo at all.
Because one of the reasons that he whaled on Leo
and brought in soft on crime was the border.
I don't even know if President Trump knew that Leo came in and said, no, I'm different from Francis.
I do believe in law enforcement in migratory affairs.
I'm guessing here.
I did not talk to President Trump about it, but he did link it in, and therefore, you know, I don't like popes.
That was Trump's line who are soft on crime.
and that, dot, da, da, da, da.
Which, of course, the Pope is not soft on crime,
and the Church's teaching isn't soft on crime,
but we have this tradition,
and especially on the back of Francis,
and what the media did, I think you're exactly right, Bill,
the media has ginned up this controversy
because they've been in the habit now
for the last decade or more,
using the Pope for their own purposes.
They can't get enough of it,
and still to this day, they're still doing it,
trying to undermine President Trump,
President Trump by using the Pope's moral authority.
But the Pope made a mistake, in my opinion, as I just said in a memo, if you're going to make
a very powerful statement about just war, and there's a simple reason why the war is taking
place and the simple reason is that U.S. intelligence believes the Mullahs are weeks away from being
able to weaponize uranium. And if you're going to get involved with that, then you have to answer
essential questions. Is the Vatican okay with that? But the Pope doesn't want to do that.
he wants to stay in the theological realm, or am I wrong?
Well, I don't even know if they're staying in the theological realm.
I think this was an issue on immigration when the vice president met with the bishops
last year.
You know, there's a kind of vague virtue signaling that happens both with war, which sort
of vaguely signals in favor of pacifism and a vagueness about the rights of the migrant
against the dignity of the nation and securing the common good of the nation.
We don't get specificity from the bishops.
We don't get specificity from the Pope.
And I am very happy for the Pope and for bishops to intervene in our national conversation.
I don't think that Christianity is a private thing.
I don't think it has no place in our public discourse.
I think it's absolutely central.
But I think bishops and popes absolutely need to recover their kind of technical interest
in these problems.
Or their moral authority.
And their moral authority.
And they're authority.
If you don't want a nuclear bomb, I mean, I'm against nuclear proliferation.
So's the Pope.
So is church teaching.
So is Donald Trump.
So we're all actually on the same page that we don't want nukes, right?
But how do you get rid of them?
When you've got a nation that has a death to America day, they celebrate death to America
for, you know, what is it, 37 years they've chanted death to America.
And they want to develop a nuke.
And, you know, we can't simply wave our hands at peace and think that we should do nothing.
And so I think when the Pope or when bishops want to intervene, and they should intervene when they feel a need, they need to bring specifics.
Right.
It's called responsibility to back up your assertion.
But I'm going to disagree with you, doctor, a little bit.
60 minutes cherry-picked three liberal bishops.
to back up the Leo point of view.
They didn't seek out any conservative bishops,
and there are conservative bishops.
So 60 minutes took the three that we're going to pound Trump,
put them on the air, and that's not unusual for them.
That's what they do.
That's what they do.
But the Vatican is a bureaucracy, as you well know.
If you go against Pope Leo in any way at all publicly, and you're a bishop, you're toast.
You're done.
They're not going to brook that.
So there is a fear about conservative clerics in the Catholic Church speaking out about this.
So I went to Mass on Sunday, as I usually do.
There wasn't a word about this.
They don't want anything to do with it.
this thing, okay? I mean, we got Isaac, we got Jeremiah, we got all bunch of, we got, we didn't
get any Iran, okay, and in the sermon, because they go, whoa, we don't want to get on the wrong
side of this. Vatican is a huge operation, and it is a secular operation of way it runs. Last word.
Yeah, I mean, I think that's true in a sense, you know, the Catholic Church is not the mafia
how to behave, you know, with a very sort of strict line of command.
And the Pope says something, then you follow it.
You follow it.
And if you don't.
I think, you know, the Catholic laity are the ones who have to speak up about these things.
You speak up about these things.
I speak up about these things.
J.D. Vance speaks up about these things.
And, you know, the Catholic laity, you know, have rights to speak to.
And, you know, I think it's often been the case that Catholic rulers have often led the way on these questions.
and I think we do need greater specificity.
I don't think these disputes between a Pope and a president are going away.
I think we're going to see more of this.
Whoever the next president is will continue to see more of that.
So I think we actually have to be.
That would be interesting.
But I think there's going to be a little daytime here between Leo and Trump.
I think this is going to less now.
I believe that.
I think we've found resolution.
All right, doctor.
Thanks very much for helping us out.
I really appreciate it.
This is the No Spin News Weekend Edition.
So a lot of confusion today with the Iran situation.
The latest is, and this can change, changes hour by hour,
that Vice President Vance, who was supposed to lead the negotiating team to Pakistan,
has not left.
He's still in D.C.
Because the Mullins won't, I guess, give the Trump administration
any indication of cooperation.
So we're not making any progress.
The world is not making any progress on this front.
And I don't know.
No one knows whether that will change.
Just keep in mind of two things.
This is not a hard negotiation.
All it is is that weapons inspectors from Austria
would be allowed to go
to Iran on a regular basis to see what their enrichment of uranium is and how they are
tending to their ballistic missiles. That's it. If Iran would agree to that and why would you
not if you weren't a warlock nation, okay, then the whole thing would be over. But they won't
agree because they want this. The mullers want this.
In fact, they love President Trump to carpet bomb the country and kill 5,000 Persians.
Mullahs would love that, love to see it happen.
That's a trap they have laid.
And going forward, okay, we have to make a decision we, the United States, on how to punish these people.
This is a very difficult decision.
But it's not a difficult negotiation.
That's it. Let the weapons inspectors in, then everything would fall into place.
All right. I hope you all understand that. That you're dealing here with a country that doesn't want the conflict to stop.
It doesn't care if their own people are killed. Very tough. Very, very, very very, very
deal with that. All right. So the delegation is standing by on Washington, I understand.
It's Kushner, it's Witkoff, it's J.D. Vance. But they're not going anywhere unless they get a signal
that Iran is willing to agree to some of these requests. So now we wait. And you can watch
cable television all night long, all day long.
You'll hear speculation after speculation after speculation.
And none of it's true.
This is a guess.
The Talking Points memo is what is not a guest
and what is true, what is actually happening.
So the ceasefire will end tomorrow
in Iran.
Ron, 8 p.m. this evening, Tuesday, here in the USA.
I assume President Trump will extend that ceasefire, but I don't know.
And I'm almost falling into the same trap of the television news industry.
But I assume he's going to extend it, hoping some rationality comes in.
The U.S. Navy today, remember they're ahead over there eight or nine hours, boarded another vessel and took it into custody.
So how many times did you hear Iran controls the Straits of Hormuz?
How many times did you hear that?
A hundred times, they do not control it.
The U.S. Navy controls it.
Doesn't really help worldwide commerce because there is disruption.
and the insurance companies based in London
don't want to ensure the tankers going in and out of Hormuz.
And that delays everything.
These tankers, the insurance on a like $2 million a trip.
Okay?
But the U.S. Navy has control over that part of the world.
All right.
It has turned back so far, 27.
ships. Wouldn't let them in, wouldn't let them out. Does that sound like Iran has control
to you? That made me so angry with this watching it. I just go, I'm a journalist and I just see
this and they don't care whether they are misleading their audiences. They don't care what they say
is true, which is why you're here. Now, in Washington itself, there was a small demonstration,
left-winger. These are veterans groups who go under the title of vets against fascism.
But 120 of them turned out, and they demonstrated against Trump and the Iran conflict.
Here's what one of them said. Go.
My sons are 11 and 13. But we all know from Iraq, from Afghanistan,
a war that's one months, that becomes six months, that becomes six years, that becomes a decade.
I can see where this is going.
Okay.
She's the perfect right to do that.
She earned the right by being a vet.
I may disagree, but I don't mind.
She's out there.
120 protesters showed up.
About 60 were arrested.
Nothing will happen to them.
can they'll be taken in, they'll be processed, and then they'll be let go, and their charges will be dropped.

Now, here's an interesting story.
You may have heard me say, Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut was the worst Trump hater on Capitol Hill, and it's true.
He is.
So Murphy, on April 20th, gets involved in an X back and forth.
And someone points out on X that 26 Iranian shadow vessels have bypassed.
a U.S. blockade, okay?
Whereupon Murphy, a sitting senator says, awesome, awesome.
Like, that's good, I'm glad.
So now Murphy, and if everybody had listened to me last week when I told you,
how crazy this guy is, Murphy.
Okay.
Here's what he says about it.
Go.
I probably should give up on sarcasm on Twitter,
Obviously, anybody that's seen anything that I have said about Trump's war knows that I think it's bungled, mismanaged,
and you should end it as quickly as possible, but sarcasm is not something I guess that's allowed on Twitter any longer.
Do you regret the post? Are you planning on taking it down?
I mean, I guess I just have to be more careful about sarcasm on Twitter.
Sarcasm about what?
What's the sarcasm?
The Post was that 26 Iranian vessels
have evaded the U.S. blockade, and you go awesome.
What are you being sarcastic about?
I'm not understanding.
I don't understand what the sarcasm is.
I don't believe the guy in the first place.
He's happy that the vessels evaded the U.S.
He wants the Trump administration to lose the Iranian conflict.
That's what I believe, based upon his previous statements, and what a hater he is.
But his explanation, like, I'm being sarcastic, about what?
Sarcasm isn't in play here in any definition at all.
Awesome?
That's stupid.
Now, if you said I was just being stupid, then I can probably agree with that.
but I know that he wants Trump to lose.
He's not alone.
We did Friedman, Thomas Friedman,
in New York Times last week.
He did the same thing.
I don't know.
I don't want to give Trump a victory.
Okay.
And then there's the view.
Now, I'm picking on the ladies here
because it's so insane what they're doing there.
Roll a tape on now.
None of it goes away.
And that's why they are planning on a draft.
They're planning on a draft.
And you're bitching and moaning that there are women who are part of the Army, Navy, all of the,
and you get rid of people and you talk about who shouldn't be, what the hell are you people doing?
And what it is, is they're changing that you no longer or ought, you have to opt,
you used to have to opt into the draft.
Now it makes it automatic.
It's a draft.
Yeah.
I'm sorry it's a draft.
Because if you are 18 to 25, they're looking at you.
Well, they're increasing that age, too.
How old is it?
I think it's 42.
Well, of course, there is no draft.
There never will be a draft.
American people don't want a draft.
But Whoopi Goldberg believes there's a draft.
It's almost, you just like, is this true?
Or am I in a delusional state here?
Here. Finally, Pope Leo, the story, thank God, is dying down. The Pope's on his way back from Africa to Rome, but the press does not want to let this one go. Roll the tape.
What do you say to people who see that, who see your criticism of the...
look nothing I have no disagreement with the fact the Pope can say what he wants and I want him to say what he wants
but I can disagree I think that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon if they do the whole world would be a jeopardy
the Middle East will be blown up and the whole world will be a jeopardy now Trump believes that okay
this is I guess Pope Leo believes something I'm not sure what Pope Leo believes
Because he hasn't articulated what he believes.
I'd like to know what he believes, but I don't.
But I know Trump believes that Iran would use the nuclear weapon.
And he's not going to change that belief.
So, in recapping, we don't know where the state of the negotiations are.
Okay, we believe that the ceasefire will be extended a bit.
We have no idea how this is all kind of come out.
We know some in the press and on Capitol Hill are rooting against their own country.
And we know Donald Trump can't afford to lose this.
And that's a memo.
You're listening to the No Spin News Weekend Edition.
Okay, so left-wing bias in the press is not just on cable television.
network television. It's in the internet, big time. Apple News, Google News, Yahoo, and others.
Here is a study, put out by a group called All Sides, which I just learned about, interesting
group. And they studied three of the big ones where people go for information. The first was
is Google News.
1% of the articles that you read on Google News
are from right-leaning outlets.
73% are from left-leaning.
Apple News.
2% of articles you read are from right-leaning outlets,
50% left-leaning.
And finally, Yahoo News, 2% of the articles
As you read on Yahoo, right leaning outlets supplied them.
53% are from left leaning outlets.
Now, why should we care?

So why should I care about this?
I can see the left wing bias on television for myself.
Why do I need to go to Google and Apple
and all of these things to reinforce that?
Well, the thing is that a lot of Americans,
when they're using these news aggregation apps,
they likely think that they're getting a broad view.
Because the aggregators have the appearance
of curating from various media outlets.
So what we did at all sides is we applied our 2,400 media bias ratings to see if these aggregators are really balanced.
And they're not, you know, most of them are on the left, most of these news aggregators, especially the big ones like you just highlighted, Google, Apple, Yahoo.
Really, when you're using those apps, you are mostly seeing news from left-leaning or left-rated media.
And the danger of that is that it just gives you the appearance of getting a broad view when really you're really.
you're ensconced inside a filter bubble.
You're not getting diverse views.
And then how are you going to be able to think for yourself?
Right.
So, you know, Bill, you might be aware of the left-wing bias in the press,
but other Americans, like, they might not be.
You know, they might be thinking that they're just getting down the road news,
down the middle news.
Okay.
So I go to Yahoo News, for example.
I go there, and I want to learn about Pope Leo and his stance.
on just war and Iran.
So I just punch up Pope Leo, right?
I just punch it up.
And then what you're telling me is
that the coverage of Pope Leo
would be put out almost 100%
by left-wing media people.
Do I have it?
Well, close.
We did do an analysis
of Google search. So when you put in a specific search term like you just described,
what types of media outlets are being returned? Now, we did that during 2024, during the election
cycle, and we found that Google search results were 68% biased to the left for terms like
Harris News, Trump News, you know, election news, that sort of thing. Now, we didn't do the
same analysis for Yahoo. For Yahoo News, what we did is we just looked at whenever you go to Yahoo,
Yahoo News.com and you're looking at what's aggregated there, what do you see? Like, how many
articles are coming from the left AP or lean left to New York Times or lean left CNN versus Fox News on the
right? So that's really what we were measuring with our news aggregator analysis.
Do these articles that does Yahoo and the others identify where they're from?
No, no, and that's the thing. They're not transparent about the perspective that these
outlets are coming from, which is why all sides exist.
It gets spit out as fact.
Yeah, and that's why all sides exist.
We make the bias of these media outlets transparent, because we think Americans deserve
to know what angle the news is coming from so that they can make an informed decision
themselves about what they think.
Okay.
So this is the big thing now.
It's going to overcome cable and network news.
It's probably already done that.
I mean, my YouTube operation has just,
skyrocketed into the millions. But it's me and people know it's me. And so if you're going to
consume it, you have a kind of a basis of fact that here's O'Reilly, and this is what O'Reilly has
done in his career. People understand that. But the anonymous articles, the articles where you
don't know who's writing them or how they got there, this kind of exposition or fact finding,
whatever you want to call it.
This is going to be in the future
really what Americans depend on
to get information, correct?
Well, right now, Google News, Apple News,
they have in the tens of millions of daily users.
So people are really relying on these apps,
these news aggregation apps,
to get the rundown of current events.
But the trouble is,
is that it can be very sinister
and even manipulative
if these big tech companies
are only showing people news from one side.
So they really have,
a decision to make. Do they believe they have a civic responsibility to help Americans get a
broad view and think for themselves? Or do they essentially want to be one-sided propaganda
outlets that are just showing people news from one side? And I can explain how we come up with
these bias ratings because it's actually very interesting and based on surveys of Americans and
panels of experts. Okay. Well, we trust that all sides is doing the research the way it should be done.
But my point is now it's almost to the overwhelming on the left.
They are dominating the messaging in America by using the apps.
And then in combination, they've got three out of the four cable networks,
and they have all three of the network, the traditional network.
So it's a dominant information flow.
to the left in this country.
Am I wrong?
I would say that you're right.
Yeah, if you're looking at the major cable networks,
most of them we rate lean left or left.
And then also, if you're using these news aggregation apps,
you're mostly going to be seeing content
from left leaning in left media.
So there is a left-wing narrative dominance in that respect.
And it really is the case that the news on the right is more buried.
You know, like you said, Apple, you know,
most of these news aggregators,
They're curating less than 10% of news from outlets on the right.
So that's a really small percentage.
And Google and the decision to do this was made, we assume,
by the executives who run these operations.
We assume that they wanted to do that.
So that's how they set it on up.
They're very aware of our analysis, you know,
and they kind of seem to be denying that it's a problem and downplaying the problem.
And, you know, we're just bringing this to light so that Americans can
understand that if they rely on one of these aggregation apps, they might not be getting a balance,
well, they're not getting a balanced view. Well, if you get booked by CBS, ABC, NBC, or CNN, you let me know
right away. Because they're so not going to put you on the air to tell everybody this. Final question,
AI. So AI is going to sweep in, and you're going to be able to get the same access that you get now,
but it's going to be a more vivid display of information driven by artificial intelligence.
Do you expect the fix will be in the same way it is in now?
I mean, AI is going to, it's already starting to transform the news industry.
We know that media outlets are using AI.
Often it's not very transparent that they're using AI.
Sometimes they're not very public about the ways that.
that this is, you know, being fed into their news content.
So, you know, we're really focused on media literacy.
We want there to be transparency.
And we're going to, you know, continue to develop tools that, you know,
without saying that we're going to not use AI to, you know, help with our work, right?
It's not really a technology we want to totally shun.
But we also want people to be able to understand when it's being used, where it's being used,
and how it might contribute to bias.
We actually did about.
That'll be interesting to see because it's a lot cheaper.
for news organizations to use AI than regular human beings.
And that's what's gonna happen.
You're gonna, they're gonna be, you know,
putting this electronic stuff out there
with very little supervision
because they don't wanna pay a couple of hundred thousand dollars
in health and salary to a human being.
All right, Julie, very good.
I'm glad I could bring this to everybody's attention.
And if you have any other good stories,
please let us know right away, okay?
Absolutely. Thank you, Bill.

Some good news today.
President Trump posted this afternoon
that he has got a stay of execution
for eight women.
We're going to be killed
because of their anti-government protests inside Iran.
And they're all young women.
all they did was protest and the mole was going to kill him.
So here's that the president posted on social media, quote,
very good news.
I have just been informed that the eight women protesters who are going to be executed
tonight in Iran will no longer be killed.
Four will be arreased immediately.
Four will be sentenced in one month of prison.
I would very much, I much appreciate that Iranist leaders,
respected my request as President of the United States and terminated the planned execution.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Now, I'm going to be a little bitchy here,
but I didn't hear the Trump. I didn't hear the Pope, I should say, say anything about these
eight women. And I'm sorry, I don't mean to be disrespectful to His holiness. I do think he's a good
man. But I don't believe he has any idea what's happening here. And I could be wrong about it.
So anyway, that's a good thing. Obviously, you know, and be killing eight young women.
And the Iranians had to do it. They can't be in that execution soup while fighting for their
lives because that's exactly what they're doing. Now, there's no new battlefield updates or
Hormuz updates. We have the best coverage. And throughout the days and weekend, you go to
Bill O'Reilly.com. And whatever happens, we have it there. And we have the true story, not the
fall story. It's really happening. And it's not good because there could be. But there could
be a worldwide recession. That's what the mullers want. That's what they're fighting with. It's
economics now. So gas prices continue to climb. Just this week alone, up nine cents in the USA.
About a buck over what was this time last year. In addition to that, AP poll has President Trump's
approval rating and job approval rating going down 33%.
Overall, do you approve or disapprove of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president?
Prove 33, disapprove 67.
Approve or disapprove of the way Donald Trump is handling Iran.
Prove 32, disapproved 67.
Same number.
Now, the only good news for the president in this poll is if he is able to prevail,
that the United States is able to.
prevail. Those numbers will go up fast. All Americans want is it to be over successfully.
And that's what the struggle is all about right now. But it is a struggle. And I told you on March
3rd, it would be rolling. Certainly if Iran goes south, the president's going to have some problems.
This is a big gamble on his part.
Big.
Now, if it turns out like Venezuela, he's going to be a hero.
But boy, he's rolling the dice.
And he is because of the worldwide economy.
So if you're planning on flying this summer,
you're going to pay about 25% more for an airline ticket,
particularly in Europe and Asia,
but that's going to come here too.
and that's because the jet fuel is much higher.
Makes sense.
The global price of jet fuel has served $100 a barrel, all right, to $200 a barrel, double.
So keep that in mind.
You might want to get your ticket now or not go or drive or pick Amtrak or whatever.
You're going to pay.
We're going to pay.
Now, the Mullahs know that this worldwide recession is an absolute possibility.
And that's why they're holding out.
They can't hold out militarily.
So you would think that something has to happen militarily to make them stop the madness.
But I don't know what that something might be.
I do know it cannot go on much longer.
Okay, and that is the memo.
You're listening to the NoSpin News Weekend Edition.
All right, final thought.
And this was a killer to write.
So my new book will be out in September.
It is called Confronting America What Has to Change.
All right, that's a pithy title.
Okay.
And there I am telling you what we need to get done here in order to have the most peace and prosperity we can.
So it's a little bit different, but there's a lot of history in a book because I back up everything I say.
So we need to change this and here's why, and then I bring in the stories.
but there's a lot about me in a book.
And by necessity, because it's confronting America,
what has to change is my point of view.
Okay?
So I tell you a lot of stories that you have never heard
about bad things, but some good things too,
but the bad outnumbers are good
because we're trying to get the problem solved.
Anyway, we just handed the book in on Sunday, three days ago, killer to write it.
Because, you know, the research has to be impeccable.
I got to do it a lot of thought, not writing about Lincoln or Jesus or, you know, I'm writing about me primarily.
And how I see the country and what has to improve.
And why?
and why.
And we don't spare anybody.
No ideology in this book.
Everybody comes in for
scrutinization. Is that a word?
Scrutinization? Yes, it is. Scrutinization.
Anyway, throw that cover up one more time so people get it.
You can pre-order the book, of course.
It will be out in mid-September.
we have had 20 number one New York Times bestsellers.
That's a world record that will never be broken.
And maybe this will be 21.
What do you think?
You won't be bored.
Okay.
So just a recap on Saturday,
we will be at the Washington Hilton for the big presidential dinner,
sponsored by the White House,
Correspondents Association.
Tomorrow we will drop
our long form
entitled
We'll do it live
with Judge
Janine Piro.
Nice enough to take the time.
You're very busy
here in D.C. I haven't
talked to the judge in a long time,
but we know each other for
God,
got to be 20 years.
So we'll do a
little comparison shopping on what she's doing and how different it is than Fox News.
We're very pleased to have the judge. That should be a good long form. It drops tomorrow early for
our premium and concierge members around noon and later in the day for everybody else.
You are up to speed. I'm glad I made it down to D.C. And anything happens in Iran will be right on it.
So stay at Bill O'Reilly.
That's our hook at Bill O'Reilly.
And then we will have a report on Sunday, pretty much.
I'll write a late column on Sunday about the dinner.
And then we'll have a live report on Monday.
Okay.
Thank you for watching tonight.
Have a great weekend.
We'll see you on Monday.
