So where are you on the faith front? Americans are not nearly as involved with religion as they were, say, 50 years ago. The fastest-rising belief system among young adults is atheism. and weekly public worship has declined significantly. We now live in a secular country where materialism dominates the culture. The pursuit of where's mind has replaced out of many one. That means personal sacrifice and loyalty to God and country is evaporating. Very tough to reach greater good territory when it's every citizen for his or herself.

Yet the traditional sideposts remain, even if spring break has replaced Easter vacation. Churches, synagogues, mosques, beckon. But their appeal in a secular society is diminished, not to mention being away from the cell phones for an hour or more. Finally, faith in the country also on the decline, as the media pumps out to the out cynicism night after night, many citizens simply disengage. Why should we bother with such a corrupt system, that kind of thing? So all of this is not good, in my opinion, and it's something to ponder back in a moment.
