On this Christmas Eve, I am thinking about my prior Christmases, and I recommend that you do that too. So all of us have had really, really nice Christmases, and some that have not been so good. One of my most memorable Christmases happened in 166. when I was a student in Europe, and I was in Vienna, Austria, alone on Christmas Eve. I was staying in a very small family-run hotel, and my plan was to go to the cathedral in Vienna at midnight mass and hear the Vienna Boys' Choir. I thought that was a great plan, right?

What a Christmas thing. Now, I was traveling alone because all my friends went back to the United States. I was studying in London at the university there, and I decided, no, I'm not going to to go back to America, I'm going to kind of float around Europe to see what Christmas is like over there. But I had no idea of what was going to come. So I got kind of dressed up on Christmas Eve and I went down to the cathedral hoping to get a good seat and went early. And all of a sudden there were like armed guards all around the church. And I went up to one who spoke English and I said, look, I'd like to go to Midnight Mass. He goes, you have a ticket? I go a ticket? It's Mass. He goes, So this is no way.
