On this Thursday, here's something to ponder.
When the Founding Fathers conceived of a new country that would promote freedom and justice,
they envisioned leadership that would pursue those things.
No tyrants need apply.
But Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, and the boys also understood human nature, and how awful it
can be. So they built in controls over presidents and members of Congress. What the founders
did not anticipate was the potential of money purchasing political power. And here we are.
In order to run for national office, a citizen needs hundreds of thousands of dollars,
often millions. For the presidency, billions. You may have noticed, not one
One congressional Democrat voted for the big bill that President Trump promoted even though
it would keep taxes on working Americans at a lower rate.
If any Democrat had supported that bill, the person would have been shunned by the party
and most likely denied funds for re-election.
Same thing on the Republican side.
defy President Trump, and you are likely finished.
Donated money will be very difficult to raise.
So, voting one's conscience, which the founding fathers wanted,
has been replaced by political survival.
Not the way our system should work.
