On this Monday, I am opting for a positive story in order to get some relief from the race and pandemic business.
Clint Eastwood turned 90 years old yesterday and has to be the most successful movie person of all
time. Beginning with a small role in the 1950s monster movie, Revenge of the Creature, Eastwood has
appeared in more than 50 films and directed 40, winning two Academy Awards, one for Unforgiven,
the other $4 million baby. And he is still a viable commodity in Hollywood, but doesn't live
there, preferring Northern California. My favorite Clint character is Dirty Harry, a vigilante
detective who despises authority. When Inspector Harry Callahan first appeared in 1971, the film critic
for the New York Times had a meltdown in print over his non-liberal behavior. Pauline Kale
scorched Eastwood further advancing his career. Over the years, Clint Eastwood has been mayor
of Carmel, California, a mentor to many talented people, and provided tremendous entertainment to the
world, Miss Kale aside. Only John Wayne rivals his enduring star power. I'm fortunate enough to know
this legend. He's a regular guy, made it on his own, no games. In the early days, Mr. Eastwood
supported himself by digging swimming pools. So happy birthday, Clint. Keep on trucking, man.
