Bill O'Reilly here, and I'm warming up.
Stand by for the O'Reilly Update Morning Edition, but first.
On this Thursday, I am thinking the magazine Sports Illustrated
has taken a sharp turn to the left, and that has cost the operation in the marketplace.
The latest progressive screed from SI concerns Washington State High School football coach,
Joe Kennedy, who was tortured by school authorities for preying on the field
after games. Some of his players voluntarily joined him. After leaving Bremerton High,
Coach Kennedy sued in federal court alleging his constitutional rights were violated. The Supreme
Court began hearing the case this week. Sports Illustrated reporter Greg Bishop is following the
situation and wrote this quote. The court will soon rule on the case of a public high school
football coach who wants to prey on field after games. The machine backing him,
and the expected result will be a win for Kennedy
and an erosion of a bedrock of American democracy,
the separation of church and state.
Well, it's actually sad.
Mr. Bishop does not understand
that the phrase separation of church and state
is not a bedrock.
It's a talking point put forth by Thomas Jefferson and others.
The Constitution is clear.
Government cannot impose any kind of religion
and all Americans are free to worship as they please, even in public.
So Joe Kennedy is likely to win the case because the Constitution is on his side.
Sports Illustrated, however, is only on the secular side.
Like ESPN, it has seen many traditional fans walk away.
Back after this.
