Bill O'Reilly here and I'm warming up. Stand by for the O'Reilly Update Morning Edition.
But first. On his Friday, a California committee considering reparations has recommended that
each African American living in the Golden State receive as much as $1.2 million in
taxpayer money. That report now goes to the state legislature for consideration. This continues
the extreme leftist's view that all working Americans should be punished for the evil institution
of slavery. Well, this is wrong on every level. First off, Americans today are not responsible
for the heinous slave industry. Secondly, almost 700,000 union soldiers were killed or wounded
fighting to end slavery in the Civil War. Are their ancestors entitled to reparations?
The British Crown confiscated my family's farm in County Cavan, Ireland, leading to generational
suffering. Should I demand payments from London? Almost every family on earth has been victimized
in some way. Historically, it has been more difficult for black Americans to succeed economically
in this country. Fact. But the USA has spent trillions over the years in an effort to make
amends. So no to reparations. It's unfair. And the California governor, Gavin Newsom, knows
it. He is not likely to back reparations because someday he wants to run for president.
And he knows Americans do not want reparations. Back after this.
