On this Monday, I am thinking about how easy it is to overreact to the pandemic. The contagion is vicious and a silent killer. People can spread the disease while having no symptoms. That's off the chart dangerous. In New York City, the close confines of the subway and bus systems easily spread COVID until many hospitals were overrun and bodies stacked up in warehouses. Doesn't get much worse than that. But in North Dakota, Wyoming and other states, the contagion is not overwhelming. Yet public officials also discount the difference. The government of Ireland has essentially shut down the country until late summer,

devastating the entire economy. And Ireland can't print money like we can to provide relief. It is dependent on the euro. Less than 1,300 folks have died there, and the infection rate is declining. So why destroy commerce? In California, an insurrection may be brewing because of government-mandated confinement. One county in the northern part of the state says it simply will not obey Sacramento's pandemic orders. This is the risk. Pandemic-inspired rebellion. Most politicians are still getting paid. Millions of workers are not. That is a formula for disaster.
