Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, it's Ryan Reynolds here for MintMobil. Now, I was looking for fun ways to tell you that Mint's offer of unlimited premium wireless for $15 a month is back. So I thought it would be fun if we made $15 bills. But it turns out that's very illegal. So there goes my big idea for the commercial. Give it a try at mintmobile.com slash switch. A upfront payment of $45 for three-month plan equivalent to $15 per month required. New customer offer for first three months only.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Speed slow after 35 gigabytes of networks busy. Taxes and fees extra. See mintmobile.com. Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. It's Thursday, April 17th, 2025. Here's his happening today in America. Maryland father. Feds suing Maine. California suing the feds. And seen for the very first time. It's all coming up. Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, Senator from Maryland, Chris Van Hollen landed in El Salvador yesterday to meet
Starting point is 00:01:00 Salvadorian officials about returning the alleged MS-13 gang member who was deported a couple weeks ago by the Trump administration. The American senator flew to El Salvador. Meanwhile, court documents have been released from his wife, who back in 2021 filed a protective order against him. In her handwriting, she says that he hit her, left her bleeding, and was abusive towards her around the children. And now she's out calling for him to be returned to America. The senator said he is there because he wants this man returned home. The Trump administration responded, he is home in El Salvador. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that the DOJ will launch a lawsuit against Maine
Starting point is 00:01:41 over its refusal to comply with President Trump's executive order, which interpreted Title IX to prohibit the inclusion of men in women's sports. The complaint accuses Maine of openly and defiantly flouting federal anti-discrimination law by prioritizing gender identity over biological reality. You remember not long ago, President Trump confronted the governor of Maine at a governor's meeting, and the governor said, we'll see you in court. Trump said, good, I'll see you in court.
Starting point is 00:02:06 I look forward to that. It should be a real easy one. And enjoy your life after governor, because I don't think you'll be in elected politics. California is suing the Trump administration, but over tariffs. Gavin Newsom said no state is poised to lose more than the state of California. The governor said 43% of the state's almonds, pistachios,
Starting point is 00:02:24 dairy products are exported out of California. And he said the uncertainty over how much the state could suffer from the tariffs is quote, pronounced and profound. The state's lawsuit claims that the Trump administration cannot use the International Economic Emergency Powers Act. Newsom said that Trump invented a national emergency in order to justify the tariffs. A White House spokesperson said, instead of focusing on California's rampant crime, homelessness, and unaffortability, Gavin Newsom is spending his time trying to block President
Starting point is 00:02:52 Trump's historic efforts to finally address the next. national emergency of our country's persistent goods trade deficits. The elusive colossal squid, the world's heaviest known invertebrate, has been filmed for the very first time. This thing is enormous. Now, this one was a baby. It's only a foot long, with eight long arms and two long tentacles. It's got his own light source, which is the craziest thing that some fish have light bulbs on
Starting point is 00:03:16 them. This was a little one, though. But one was found dead. That's a thousand pounds. Its eyes were the size of soccer balls. I'm Mike Slater. Bill O'Reilly has your message today. Next.

Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day. On this Thursday, Colorado residents are
Starting point is 00:04:06 in serious trouble, and it's their own fault. Totalitarianism is descending on the Rocky Mountain state because radical leftists are being elected to high positions. Soon, Colorado will mirror California. When I lived there in the late 1970s, Colorado was essentially a traditional state that fostered individualism. Yes, radicals dominated Boulder and Aspen, but the culture was not affected by the extremists. Now they rule. The latest outrage is a series of proposed new laws that gut parental authority and spit in the face of religious freedom. The legislature in Denver wants all Colorans to fund abortions, as well as gender-changing surgery. Even worse, a law would allow children to undergo sex change procedures without permission from their parents. The state again
Starting point is 00:05:03 picking up any tabs. The Federal Hyde Amendment forbids Washington from using tax dollars for abortions. However, Colorado seeks to override Hyde. That's illegal, of course, but the totality are trying. The gender minor thing is simply unbelievable. The state will dictate a child's upbringing, not the parents. Mousie Zung would love this. The leftist governor, Jared Polis, will probably sign the legislation. Then the litigation will begin. It's an all-time Rocky Mountain Low. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill O'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Name in town if you wish to opine. Now let's go to the mail. George Porter is in Cincinnati. Mr. O'Reilly, Trump seems to be purging D.C. as he said he would.
Starting point is 00:06:02 And my problem is he's hurting a lot of good people by laying off so many. What are these people supposed to do now? They have no jobs. Get other jobs. You know, do plenty of jobs in America. Plenty. So you're working for the feds or the state and the debt is too big and they're got a cut back. So you get another job. Capitalism. Nobody's guaranteed employment. It's not that kind of a system. John, concierge member, according to Stephen Miller, the deportation of Garcia was not a mistake. He had his due process in 19 and a deportation order was issued. Since then, Garcia asked for asylum. he feared for his life, on and on and on and on. Look, I'm not going to get involved with this. The government says the MS-13 guy, okay, I'm willing to look at that evidence. But right now, one judge is adjudicating his asylum request and the Supreme Court has asked the Trump administration to facilitate his return. And if the Trump administration doesn't
Starting point is 00:07:12 want a war with the Supreme Court, which that is not good, it will bring him back. It's not worth it. The simple, simple story. Not worth it. Robert Doyle, Brooklyn, New York. What is this I keep reading about Barack Obama getting $2.5 million payments in royalties from Obamacare? I don't know what it is, Robert. I don't know what you're reading, but that's insane.
Starting point is 00:07:40 If you tell me where it comes from, I'll expose the charlatans. But a question for you. Why are you reading stuff like that? There's no backup to that. But tell me where it comes from, and we'll go get them. In a moment, something you might not know. Flying first class with Alaska Airlines isn't just about getting there. Now the O'Reilly update brings you something you might not know. 160 years ago today, federal agents arrested a female conspirator following the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. She would soon become the first woman ever executed by the U.S. government. Here is the story of Mary Sarat. Born 1820 in Waterloo,
Starting point is 00:08:54 Maryland, young Mary, earned a living as a maid and innkeeper. According to prosecutors, John Wilkes Booth, and a handful of other men used her boarding house in Washington, D.C., to plan the attack on Lincoln. Mary was allegedly aware of the plot, cooking their meals and providing a place for the traitors to sleep. After the assassination, the authorities rounded up everyone associated with the plot. Mary was arrested on April 30, 1865. Sirot's son, John Jr., was also thought to be involved in the conspiracy, but escaped to Canada before capture. Although Mary claimed to be innocent, she was tried and convicted by a military commission. In short order, she was hanged for her crimes.
Starting point is 00:09:48 In total, four people were executed for the plot against Abraham Lincoln. Another three sentence to life in prison. John Wilkes Booth died in a shootout in Northern Virginia. His final words, useless, useless. And here's something else you might not know.
