Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly update.
Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater.
Thank you, Bill. It is Monday, April 27th, 2026.
Here's this happening today in America.
Democrat donor arrested.
King and Queen visit, Special Forces soldier arrested,
and a record-setting marathon.
That's all coming up. Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day.
But first, Cole Allen of Torrance, California,
tried to run past security at the White House Correspondist dinner on Saturday night,
armed with multiple guns.
guns and a knife, but he was taken down by security. Shots were fired. He wasn't hit. A
Secret Service agent was hit, but he had on a bulletproof vest. No other injuries. The president
and all of his cabinet were whisked away by Secret Service. We're told by law enforcement his plan
was to shoot as many administration officials as possible. The LA Times is reporting that he
donated to the Democratic fundraising machine Act Blue. And his final message to his family sent 10
minutes before he tried to run past security.
Among other things, he said, I am no longer
willing to permit a pedophile, rapist,
and traitor to coat my hands
with his crimes. The
state visit of King Charles III and
Queen Camilla is going to go on as
planned. Their first official state visit
to the United States. The purpose of the
trip was to celebrate the 250th anniversary
of America. They lost
that war, so it's nice of them to still
celebrate with us. Buckingham
Palace called the visit an opportunity to recognize
the shared history of our two nations,
the breadth of the economic security and cultural relationship that has developed since then,
and the deep people-to-people connections which unite communities.
On Tuesday, the king will deliver an address to a joint session of Congress,
only the second time a British monarch has done so.
Queen Elizabeth II delivered a speech in 1991,
and on Wednesday they're going to visit the 9-11 Memorial coming up on the 25th anniversary of that attack.
The Special Operations Soldier was indicted this week for allegedly using classified information
to make more than $400,000
betting on the capture of Nicholas Maduro.
He appeared in a federal courtroom in Raleigh, North Carolina.
He will be released on a quarter of a million dollar appearance bond.
He agreed to surrender his passport,
limit travel to North Carolina and New York,
limit drinking in excess,
and no longer possess a firearm
unless it's part of his active duty service.
He placed a series of bets totaling $33,000
just a couple days before Trump announced Maduro's capture.
the first man to ever break two hours in a marathon,
one hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds.
He's from Kenya.
The second place guy also went under two hours.
He's from Ethiopia.
What a bummer for him.
Incredibly, the guy who won,
it was the first marathon he's ever run.
One hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds,
that's a four minute, 33 second mile for 26 of them.
Incredible.

Time now for the O'Reilly Update,
message of the day.
On this Monday, did you catch the story
about the federal courts in California
ruling that ICE agents
do not have to identify themselves to the public?
That was a pretty shocking ruling
because the anti-ice crew
in California and other states,
they want the public to know who's working for the immigration authorities.
They want that.
Now, everybody knows that you could be easily dox D-O-X-X-E-D if people knew who you were.
They could find out where you live, what's your family life, and some nut might decide to take some revenge on the Ice Ages.
That's why they wear masks and they don't have ID cards on their chest because they're being
protected in a very volatile age.
Now, that makes sense to me.
Public safety cuts both ways, right?
I don't want ice agents going around beating the hell out of people.
I think that's wrong.
Those shootings in Minneapolis never should have happened.
Yes, part of it was the perpetrators were, power.
by the actions of the protesters, but it shouldn't happen. You want to add to the problem by giving
loons access to individual ice agents? Thank God. The court ruled this way. I'm Bill O'Reilly.
I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at bill o'Reilly.com. Bill at
Bill O'Reilly.com, name in town, if you wish to opine.
Now let's go to the mail.
Salvatore Ventura, Burr Ridge, Illinois.
Bill, police tell us what nations are helping President Trump's naval blockade.
It's the Gulf states, and they're helping a little bit because they don't have a big
Navy apparatus over there.
But that's it.
Nobody else helping us.
Boy, that's bad.
Jimmy Wagers, Bangkok, Thailand.
I'm sure you know the story of the Little Red Hen.
This is how I see Europe.
Not wanting to do any of the work,
but are they happy to reap the benefit of what the USA is doing.
Right on.
Why should they do anything?
They'll wait until we crush Iran,
and then they'll be a more peaceful world that they'll benefit from.
Absolutely what's going on.
Linda, concierge member, I feel like Iran is laughing at us.
They see the hate the left, has to the president.
Some of the talk by politicians on the left seems almost treasonous.
Certainly he handles on negotiations with Iran.
Of course, the president doesn't help with his unrestrained social media posts.
All right.
I don't have any beef with that analysis.
treason, you know, you can't dissent, and they'll always hide behind dissent, the press, isn't treason.
Sean Milburn from Sydney, Australia.
So, Sean, I'm sure they get mixed up with Melbourne and Sydney.
Hey, Bill, is it straight or straights of Hormuz?
Please tell us, because everybody is saying it differently.
It is the straight, singular.
That's what it is.
Say one straight right out to the Gulf of Oman.
In a moment, something you might not know.
Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might, not know.
165 years ago today, President Abraham Lincoln suspended the writ of habeas corpus.
For the first time in history, American soldiers could arrest and detain U.S. citizens
without due process.
Here is the story.
The concept of habeas corpus dates back to the 5th century.
In Latin it means, show me the body.
The law demands any person charged with a crime must appear before a court within a reasonable
amount of time.
Article 1, Section 9 of the U.S. Constitution states, quote,
The privilege of the writ of habeas corpus shall not be suspended unless in cases of rebellion.
Two weeks after the start of the Civil War, and that was certainly a rebellion, many in Washington feared other states might leave the Union.
On April 27, 1861, President Lincoln suspended.
the writ. Under his order, Union soldiers could detain individuals considered a threat to the military
or to civilians. Those arrested were held without indictment or arraignment. They just were put in
cells. That decision was immediately challenged. Supreme Court ruled a commander-in-chief did not,
have the authority to hold Americans indefinitely even rebels.
Lincoln remained defiant, however.
In a speech to Congress on July 4th, Abe said, quote,
it is my duty to suspend the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus,
or in other words, to arrest and detain without resort to the ordinary processes and forms of law, unquote.
And here's something else you might not know.
Lincoln was not the only president to spend the writ.
Other examples include Ulysses Grant and his crackdown on the KKK.
FDR's forced interment of Japanese Americans during World War II
and George W. Bush's detention of al-Qaeda suspects at Guantanamo Bay after 9-11.
Back in a moment.
