Starting point is 00:00:00 Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. It's Wednesday, December 20th, 20203. Here's what's happening today in America, protecting democracy. Texas sued Houthis attack and reparations in New York.
Starting point is 00:00:23 It's all coming up. Then Bill's going to be here with your message today. But first, in an effort to protect democracy, the people who claim that Trump is attacking. democracy have decided to remove him from the ballot in Colorado, the Colorado Supreme Court deciding that Donald J. Trump is ineligible to be on the ballot because he violated Clause 3 of the 14th Amendment, which is an amendment intended for Confederate military and political leaders after the Civil War. And they say he's ineligible because Trump led an insurrection.
Starting point is 00:00:52 This part of the 14th Amendment says that no person shall hold any office who, having previously taken an oath to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. Insurrection is the key word there. The decision is on hold until the Supreme Court hears Trump's appeal on this issue on January 4th. Right after the Texas immigration law went into effect, which enables Texas law enforcement police officers who have probable cause to arrest someone for being in the country illegally. And the person who is arrested is given a choice. You can either go to jail in Texas for 20 years or we will drop you back off on the
Starting point is 00:01:32 other side of the border. And as soon as this law went into effect, the ACLU sued them, of course. The lawsuit claims that SB 4 could pose a threat to mixed status families who are an integral part of the El Paso community. Doesn't matter. Can't be here illegally. Governor Abbott said he will fight this all the way to the Supreme Court. The U.S. is leading a coalition of 10 nations to counter Houthi attacks out of Yemen on commercial vessels and military vessels in the Red Sea. The Red Sea connects the Indian Ocean with the Mediterranean Sea so that ships don't have to go all the way around the southern tip of Africa. The problem is these ships have to pass through a straight in between Yemen and Djibouti. Yemen is home to Houthi terrorists backed by Iran
Starting point is 00:02:17 who keep hijacking and launching drones at these ships. Now worth noting, our president Joe Biden in 2021 decided to remove the Houthis from the list of officially recognized terrorist organizations. And explicitly, the goal was to be nice to them and encourage them to stop being violent. How to go? New York joining California as a state that will consider reparations for the descendants of slaves. A state that ended slavery in 1827. The Republican minority of New York says New York already paid the debt for slavery with the blood and lives of Americans during the Civil War.
Starting point is 00:02:50 I'm Mike Slater, Bill O'Reilly with your message of the day. Next. Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress. National debt rising, trade war, shaking the markets. On this Wednesday, a new Monmouth University poll since President Biden's job approval
Starting point is 00:04:10 rating now stands at 34%. In truth, the Monmouth poll is a bit sketchy. based on past numbers, but there's no question Mr. Biden is imploding. Keeping it pithy, here's why. Folks are paying too much for essentials and recreation, and they're paying more than they did when Donald Trump was president. Most Americans understand Biden's open border policy is a disaster. The president has enabled his troubled son Hunter to amass millions of dollars. Mr. Biden continues to deny any responsibility for the hunter situation.
Starting point is 00:04:53 On Mr. Biden's watch, the rise of public disorder in the nation's large cities is horrifying. The president remains silent on the entire issue. Joe Biden spends more tax dollars than any president in history with little to show for it. Overseas, there is obviously chaos almost everywhere. I could list many more deficits and not even mention President Biden's age. So when you think about it, the 34% job approval number is really astounding in itself. What's that all about? Massacism?
Starting point is 00:05:41 I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message. by writing it, you can reach me. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com, Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com, name in town if you wish to opine. Now let's go to the mail. So John says, I like former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, but will not vote for her. I like her spunk, not afraid to be confrontational. The reason I will not vote for her is that she is a warmongering neocon, not unlike Senator Lindsey Graham. I believe our issues are within our borders, not elsewhere. Well, I disagree with you, John, but respectfully, and I do respect your choice
Starting point is 00:06:19 of who you want to vote for. World's interconnected now. Out of control overseas, going to hurt everybody here. Susan Menser, Grapefond, Texas, in your answer to an email bill, you sent Hunter Biden's bringing untold embarrassment to his father. If you've considered the life he's led, I don't think Joe Biden could ever be embarrassed. I disagree. I think the president is very much upset by the conduct of his son. I'm not going to go any further than that, but I know that to be true. David Garner, Dallas, right down the road from grapevine, I constantly get emails asking to help prosecute Hunter Biden. My question is, why? Isn't it what the government gets taxes to do?
Starting point is 00:07:11 If you get an email asking for money to prosecute Hunter Biden, that is a scam. S-C-A-M. We'll give these people any money. Oh, man. Tanya concierge member, I changed my opinion since I moved away from many of my friends, and I don't see them very often, so I want to get a card with family pictures on it. I like the family pictures, too. But I just think there should be a note with the pictures.
Starting point is 00:07:45 I just finished writing two hours of cards, a little hand thing. In a moment, something you might not know. Hey, I'm Caitlin Becker, the host of the New York Postcast, and I've got exactly what you need to start your weekdays. Now, the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know. 77 years ago today, the movie It's a Wonderful Life, premiered in New York City. Critics initially panned the plot as overly sentimental. Today, it's considered one of the most cherished movies of all time. Here is The Story.
Starting point is 00:08:47 The tale was first published by author Philip Stern, 1943. Hollywood Studio RKO bought the rights for just $10,000. Director Frank Capra tapped to lead the production. It's a wonderful lie premiered on December 20th, 1946, right after the war. The film stars Jimmy Stewart, as George. Bailey, a frustrated businessman with unfulfilled dreams. Facing financial ruin, George considers suicide on Christmas Eve by jumping off a bridge. He is saved by a guardian angel, then shown what the world would look like had he never been born. The film was a box office
Starting point is 00:09:32 flop in 1946. Ticket sales are so low, the studio did not renew the copyright. Without any In the legal protection, TV networks were allowed to broadcast a movie free, which they did. Beginning in 1960, the saga has been shown every year on Christmas Eve. And here's something else you might not know. James Stewart's portrayal of George Bailey was heavily influenced by his own experience in World War II. The actor joined the Army Air Corps in 1941 just a few months after winning his first Academy Award for the Philadelphia Story. He then piloted some of the most brutal bombing campaigns in Europe. Following a five-year absence in Hollywood,
Starting point is 00:10:18 Stewart reluctantly accepted the starring role in Wonderful Life. He used the filming process to overcome his own severe depression and suicidal thoughts. Stewart even ablibed the film's most famous line, quote, Dear Father in Heaven, I'm not a praying man, but if you're up there and you, can hear me, show me the way. I'm at the end of my rope. It's a wonderful life is not for everyone. It is very sentimental, but I think it is a worthy Christmas Eve experience.
Starting point is 00:10:57 Back after this. Hey, it's Sean Spicer from the Sean Spicer Show podcast, reminding you to tune into my show every day to get your daily dose inside the world of politics.
