Bill O'Reilly here.
You are listening to the weekend edition of the O'Reilly update.
Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater.
Thanks, Bill.
Here's what's happening this week in America.
Trump's Christmas message.
Southern California flooding, Washington Monument Illumination,
and don't watch the abridged version.
It's all coming up.
Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day.
But first, other than the president's usual Christmas message format,
which starts out with Merry Christmas to all, including this year, the radical left scum
that is doing everything possible to destroy our country but are failing badly.
That's his normal Christmas message.
Other than that, he also sent a tweet yesterday.
Tonight, at my discretion, as Commander-in-Chief, the United States launched a powerful
and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting
and viciously killing, primarily in a sense of Christians, at levels not seen for many years
and even centuries. I have previously warned these terrorists that if they did not stop
slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay. And tonight, there was. The Department
of War executed numerous perfect strikes, and so only the United States is capable of doing.
Under my leadership, our country will not allow radical Islamic terrorism to prosper. May God
bless our military, and Merry Christmas to all, including the dead terrorists, of which there
will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues. A lot more flooding in Southern California.
two people have died.
The rain is expected to last throughout today.
Gavin Newsom has declared states of emergency in Los Angeles County, Orange, Riverside,
San Bernardino, San Diego, and Shasta.
About 120 first responders are assisting local residents with evacuations and any other
services that are needed, which is a nice reminder to thank all of our emergency personnel
and everyone who worked over Christmas and Christmas Eve.
Thank you for keeping us safe.
I'll look forward to seeing how this exactly looks, but
on New Year's night and midnight, and for the next six days, there will be nightly displays at the Washington Monument in D.C., which will, quote, project a sweeping visual narrative onto the monument, highlighting key moments in American history from discovery and independence to unity and future innovation. It's free if you're in the area. Projections begin at 7 o'clock every night. This is a part of our 250th anniversary, which we'll talk more about in the next segment. Yesterday in the Something You May Not Know segment, we talked about the backstory.
of the movie It's a Wonderful Life, how it started out as a Christmas card that someone wrote
and somehow Frank Capra came across it. In other It's a Wonderful Life news, Amazon is being
criticized, rightfully so, for having a version that removes the entire Pottersville scene,
the 22-minute scene where George sees what life in Bedford falls and the people he loves
what their life would be like if he were never born. You know, the point of the movie,
it just removes the whole 22 minutes. So there's still time to watch it, but if you watch it on
Amazon, there's the full version and the abridged. The full version is 131 minutes. Don't miss one of
them. I'll be back with the message of the day. Next. Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under
stress. National debt rising, trade war, shaking the markets. And meanwhile, China is dumping the
dollar and stockpiling gold. That's why I protected my savings with physical gold and silver.

Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day.
Can I tell you a Christmas tale?
This should be on the hallmark movie schedule.
So, 1969, I'm 21 years old.
I'm traveling around Europe because I was attending the University of London.
And instead of going back home for Christmas, I said, you know what?
I'll take the two or three weeks, and I'll zip around the continent and see different things.
But nobody else wanted to do that.
everybody else all the Americans studying went home um so i wound up in vienna on christmas eve
my plan was to see the vienna boys choir at the magnificent st stephen's cathedral for midnight
pass sounds like a great plan right i was jazzed so i show up for mass and i can't get in because
I said, like, cost thousands of dollars to attend the Mass to see the boys' choir.
I said, are you kidding me?
I'm Catholic.
All I want to do is go to Mass or Christmas Eve.
They go, no, you've got to pay all these marks.
Austrian currency.
I said, what?
And so I tried to sneak in.
And I failed.
They had great security.
So I went back to my pension.
own. And I was alone, Christmas Eve. And the lady who ran the little hotel where I was

mail. Okay, Zach Washburn is in Oklahoma City with the best basketball team on the planet.
Mr. O'Reilly, we just want to thank you for giving me power through knowledge. It's the theme that
you have repeated on your program. And recently I've come to understand how true it is.
In trying to find actual fact-based news broadcasts, I came across your program last year. I've been a
faithful listener ever since. This is in combination with your amazing books has given me power
through knowledge. Listen, if you're in any kind of job, okay, where you have to talk to other people,
the conversations are going to come around to serious things. And the more you know and the better
you present yourself, the quicker you're going to rise in your job. Man, you don't have to be a partisan.
I'm just giving you fact after fact,
after fact, after fact.
So I appreciate it, Zach, thank you.
Donald Warner, Four Oaks, North Carolina,
Bill, how do uneducated people like Candace Owens
and others get public forums
to find their way into conservative politics?
Because they're Americans.
Everybody's going to have a talk show.
Everybody will have a website.
You can have it.
I don't go into that world.
I do not follow that world.
It did a total waste of time for me.
I know what they do.
Tack, attack, attack, attack, attack, click, click, click,
click, click, conspiracy, conspiracy.
You like it, take it.
Not me, my time is valuable.
Jerry Shrevo, White Lake, Michigan.
I was wondering if you're thinking about a subject
for another confronting book.
Yeah, I'm writing it called Confronting America What Has to Change.
Okay, this is my last book under contract.
It will be out next September.
If I can finish it, hard book to write,
because everything changes in this country.
In a moment, something you might not know.
I usually ask potential criminals to have a seat,
but now I'm asking you to join me.
Chris Hansen, for my new series,
have a seat with Chris Hansen.

Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might, not know.
67 years ago, a novelty Christmas song hit number one on the Billboard chart.
The tune featured three rambunctious rodents and their adopted human father, Dave.
Here is the story behind Alvin and the chipmunks.
The man behind the holiday classic was Ross Bagsarian, also known as Dave Seville.
In early 1958, the 40-year-old musician began experimenting with a broken tape recorder.
He used the device to speed up his own voice, drastically increasing the pitch.
Dave soon released a popular song.
witch doctor. If you're old enough, you might remember the refrain,
Ui, Uwawa. Well, with a hit under his belt, the record label asked Seville to write a song
for the holidays. He created three youthful chipmunks named Alvin, Simon, and Theodore.
In November, Dave Seville and his trio released the chipmunk song, Christmas Don't Be Late.
The tune was an immediate sensation.
On December 22nd, 1958, it hit number one.
Christmas, Christmas time is near.
Time for toys and time for cheer.
We've been good, but we can't last.
Merry Christmas, hurry fast.
Well, a song made Alvin a household name.
In 1961, the chipmunks got their own animated show on CBS.
The group was then featured in cartoons, comics, movies, and more music, if you want to call it music.
Dave Seville died in 1972 from a heart attack.
He was 53 years old.
And here's something else you might not know.
Before making it big with the chipmunks, Mr. Seville worked as a lounge singer in Hollywood.
In 1954, he caught the attention of director Alfred Hitchcock.
If you look very close, Seville is playing piano in the apartment across from Jimmy Stewart
in the movie Rear Window.
Back after this.
