Thank you, Bill.
It is Monday, December 30th, 2024.
You're listening to the O'Reilly Update here as this happening.
Today in America, Joe Biden shares his regrets. Fewer Americans donate to charity. How many adults condone
political violence? And drivers rank the worst traffic in America. That's all coming up than my
message of the day about the passing of Jimmy Carter at the age of 100. But first, the Washington
Post published an expose about Joe Biden's final days in office. According to the paper,
the outgoing president regrets his decision to drop out of the 2024 race.
after his poor debate performance.
White House insiders say Biden believes he would have beaten Donald Trump on election day.
Many suggest he would have lost to Trump by an even bigger electoral landslide.
That's his biggest regret, no mention of the Afghanistan withdrawal and how that was handled.
Bungled.
A report from the Wall Street Journal finds that just 45% of Americans gave to charity this Christmas.
This is the lowest level in two decades.
Economists blame the historic drop on record high inflation.
A third of households say they scaled back on gifts to save money.
25% reduced the number of guests during the holidays.
The average family now spends $11,000 each year on higher prices from inflation.
And Joe Biden didn't regret that either.
Any of the bills he passed, which led to this crazy high inflation.
Survey from the University of California finds 20% of the public believes violence
against the government can be justified under certain circumstances.
7% say they would kill another person to advance their political agenda.
According to respondents, the biggest factors behind the heated rhetoric, denial of personal
freedoms, infringement on the Second Amendment, and religious persecution.
A report from Fox News ranks the worst traffic in America.
Cities are judged by time in the car compared to distance traveled.
Top of the list this last year.
24, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, Houston, and the worst spot for drivers, Washington, D.C.
Drivers in our capital waste 150 hours every year sitting in traffic.
If you want to avoid gridlock, visit Kansas.
People in Wichita experience just 15 minutes of traffic each year.
Coming up in the message of the day, one of the chapters in Bill O'Reilly's book is about Jimmy Carter.
So we'll share some of bills no-spin take, and then the latest on the H-1B visa debate.
That's next.
Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress.
National debt rising, trade war, shaking the markets.
And meanwhile, China is dumping the dollar and stockpiling gold.

I'm Mike Slater, filling up for Bill O'Reilly.
Now it's time for the O'Reilly update message of the day.
Chapter 39 of the book Confronting the Presidents by Bill O'Reilly is about Jimmy Carter.
Jimmy Carter was born in October 1, 1924.
were the first president to be born in a hospital.
His mom was a nurse there.
His dad ran a grocery store and a peanut farm in Plains, Georgia.
Jimmy intended to take over the family business,
but first he wanted to see the world.
He went to the Naval Academy in Annapolis.
During his last year on a trip home,
he renewed his friendship with Rosalind.
He told his mom that,
that's the girl I want to marry right after their first date.
They did, and they had four kids.
Carter went to see, then his dad,
died in 1953 from pancreatic cancer, so he returned home to run his family business. And the business
went well, but Jimmy wanted to see more than just this small town, Plains Georgia with 600 residents.
So he won the state Senate seat, 1962. Eight years later, elected governor of Georgia. Four
years later ran for president. Bill concluded that the American people wanted to change from the old
politics of Vietnam and Watergate, and Carter won by 57 electoral votes. On the inauguration
parade route, he got out of the limo, walked the three miles himself, man of the people.
His first breakfast in the White House was cheese grits, a bit unusual, but the White House chefs got
used to the recipe. They made it for all the foreign diplomats who visited the president.
But the job of president was maybe tougher than they imagined. At 7 a.m. on April 25th, 1980,
7 a.m. Jimmy Carter went on national television and said late yesterday,
I canceled a carefully planned operation, which was underway in Iran, to position our rescue
team for later withdrawal of American hostages who have been held captive there since November
4th. Equipment failure in the rescue helicopters made it necessary to end the mission.
As our team was withdrawing, after my order to do so, two of our American aircraft collided
on the ground following a refueling operation in a remote desert location in Iran.
There was no fighting, there was no combat.
but to my deep regret, eight of the crewmen of the two aircraft which collided were killed,
and several other Americans were hurt in the accident.
At this point, oil prices have tripled.
Iran has humiliated him and us by allowing his forces to storm the embassy and kidnapped 52 Americans
that happened 141 days prior to that speech.
They were asking for $8 billion ransom, and Jimmy Carter's approval rating was 20%
the lowest of any president ever.
That speech may be only outdone by his malaise speech,
from a couple months prior. It's called the Malay's speech, even though he never used that
word. It's technically called the Crisis of Confidence speech. But it was the American people's
confidence in him that was in crisis. I'm not one to dance on anyone's graves, but the reviews
of his presidency are not great. The National Review just wrote, after being booted out of
office, the self-described citizen of the world spent the rest of his life meddling in US foreign
policy and working against the United States and its allies in a manner that could fairly be
described as treasonous. Bill O'Reilly, being a bit more merciful, said Jimmy Carter was a stubborn
man surrounded by mediocre advisors. I'll end with two admirable things. He lived in the same
house for 60 years, recently assessed at $167,000, and he taught Sunday school at his local church
for all of those 60 years. As Trump said yesterday, while I strongly disagree with him philosophically
and politically, I also realized that he truly loved and respected our country and all it stands
for. He worked hard to make America a better place. And for that, I give him my highest respect.
Jimmy Carter, our 39th president, dead at the age of 100. Something you might not know. Next.

Now it's time for something you might not know about H-1B visa.
It's fascinating debate going on in Magalien.
about these. America gives
65,000 of these visas out
to people every year who have a bachelor's degree
from all around the world and another 20,000
to people who have a master's or higher
from an American university. And you get
the visa for six years.
The Department of Homeland Security says there are currently
750,000 people in America
right now here on an H-1B
visa. Elon and Vivek
say we need a lot more of these.
He says, think of it like a pro sports
team. If you want your team
to win the championship, you need to recruit
top talent wherever they may be.
That enables the whole team to win.
It should be noted that Elon from South Africa came to America on an H-1B visa.
But many on the right are saying, no, there have to be Americans who can do these jobs.
And even worse, in many cases, notably Disney in 2015, a company will fire Americans
and then require the recently fired Americans to train their new foreign replacements.
That's obviously abuse.
One benefit for the employers, other than paying, as one study says, somewhere between 25 and
49% less money for these visa holders than they pay an American is someone on H-1B visa can't quit.
They're a sort of indentured servant.
If they leave their job, they lose their visa, and then they have to leave the country.
One fact of this that has to be noted is, where are these people coming from, these H-1B visa
holders?
Where are they from?
71% of them are from India.
Almost all the rest are from China, with a smattering from Iran.
around the world, which is weird because are there no highly skilled workers from
anywhere in Europe? Why so many from India? And then if we're going to talk about people
from India, where in India? There's 1.3 billion people there. India is very diverse. How many
languages do you think there are spoken in India? 270. And then you add in dialects,
there's over 20,000 different dialects in one country. So when we say they're from India,
what are we even talking about? And are these people from India really the best and brightest? Are they really
the high-skilled labor that we're told we need? Or is it just cheap labor? I just wanted to share
some facts about the H-1B visas before we talk more tomorrow about the thing that I believe
Elon and Vivek are missing in this conversation. But I'll leave you with this. Elon said,
it comes down to this. Do you want America to win or do you want America to lose? To which I say,
win what? And in your world, Elon, what is winning even look like here? We'll talk
More about that tomorrow.
