Starting point is 00:00:00 Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. It is Wednesday. February 28th, 2024. Here's what's happening today in America. Michigan results are in bump stocks in the Supreme Court.
Starting point is 00:00:19 Mary Poppins' naughty language and surge pricing at a burger joint. It's all coming up. Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, Donald J. Trump has won the Michigan Prize. It's not even close. Michigan's weird this year. The primary decides 16 of the state's 55 delegates. The other 39 are decided at the state party convention caucus this Saturday. And can you believe it? Super Tuesday is this Tuesday. Do you remember the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas back in 2017? Jason Aldeen was performing at 10 p.m. and someone started shooting from the 32nd floor of the hotel across the street. It was the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, 500 wounded, 60. people killed fired over a thousand rounds and they say he used a bumpstock that bump stock is being argued today in front of the supreme court the question is is that a machine gun the justices are considering whether a bumpstock is a machine gun is defined by the national firearms act from
Starting point is 00:01:17 1986 they define a machine or the law defines a machine gun as any weapon which shoots automatically more than one shot without manual reloading by a single function of the trigger and it also includes parts used for converting a weapon into a machine gun. Appeals courts have come to different conclusions, so it's in front of the Supreme Court today. The most recent decision from alcohol, tobacco, and firearms said that the bumpstock is a machine gun and everyone had to turn it in by a certain date or else you could face criminal penalties, and one man is suing the government saying that this violates his Second Amendment rights. Mary Poppins has been hit with a PG rating in England because of its use of discriminatory language.
Starting point is 00:01:59 There's a point in the movie where someone uses the racist term Hattentot, which no one's ever heard of, ever. Apparently, a hottentot is a racially insensitive term for a co-co-e, an indigenous group in South Africa. These people will destroy everything that's good and loved. Wendy's, the second largest burger train by McDonald's, of course, is announcing price surging. So it'll be like when you try to get an Uber during a busy time, the price will go up.
Starting point is 00:02:28 Customers could pay a dollar more for a sandwich during the lunch hour rush. The CEO said that they're going to spend $20 million on high-tech digital menu boards that can update the price in real time. Hmm. You okay with this? Is this a smart business move or just a form of price gouging? I'm Mike Slater, Bill O'Reilly with your message to the day. Next.
Starting point is 00:02:50 Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress. National debt rising, trade war, shaking the markets. And meanwhile, China is dumping the dollar and stockpiling gold. Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day. On this Wednesday, the woke equity movement now controls many American towns, including Kansas City, Missouri. That mass shooting during the Super Bowl parade on February 14th remains undefined. Why did it happen? What was the motive? Who exactly are the perpetrators? Four suspects are in custody. Two adults are black men. No details at all about the minors.
Starting point is 00:04:24 who will most likely be tried as adults. Of course, at this point, the authorities know exactly what happened, but refuse to tell the public. Why? Because race is in play. Lisa Lopez Galvan was killed 22 other innocent people injured, yet no explanation from Kansas City? This is wrong.
Starting point is 00:04:50 Everyone understands that if a white person was deemed responsible for the mass shooting, I would have been front-page news on February 15th the day after. But minority criminal activity is handled differently. The public should know why horrendous crimes happen. It's a matter of safety. Is there a gang component to the mass shooting in Kansas City? How did those arrested get guns, especially the minors? Authorities have an obligation to inform us.
Starting point is 00:05:21 This censorship stuff has got to stop, stonewalling and important information because of skin color is not in the public interest. The mayor of Kansas City is not doing his job. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at bill o'Reilly.com. Bill at bill o'Reilly.com. Name in town if you wish to opine.
Starting point is 00:05:44 Let's go to the mail. Frank Woods, Buffalo, New York. Nikki Haley grabbed 40% of South Carolina vote. Not a small number. Is for any chance she in comp could bury the hatchet? I don't know about any hatchets. I think that a week, let's see, today is Tuesday, Super Tuesday is in a week. The Wednesday after Super Tuesday, I think Nikki Haley will say goodbye.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Could be wrong, I'm just guessing. When she does, she'll endorse Trump. She has to because she wants to run for president herself in 2008. It has to be a good Republican. So is that Barry an hatch? I don't know. Robert Halkin, Houston, Texas. Bill, I suppose, as you said, many Trump supporters want to punish the progressives,
Starting point is 00:06:28 but I'm not sure Donald Trump would punish an amorphic blob. I believe Trump and many more of its supporters want to reverse a progressive policy. Yeah, but they want to do it with a hammer. So, trust me on this. Tim Harrow, Surgeonville, Tennessee. Bill Lovie's straightforward analysis. She said Republicans want to punish a progressive movement. but I think the root issue is accountability.
Starting point is 00:06:53 There's no accountability in society, let alone government anymore. It's not accountability. As we just talked with Dr. Phil, it's these loons who are imposing this destructive agenda on the country. Now, they're private citizens, most of them. You can't hold them accountable. It's freedom of speech.
Starting point is 00:07:11 You know what the culture war is. Is Donald Trump going to win the culture war? No. Will he damage the progressives? Yes, if he's elected. James, you're absolutely correct when you say conservatives want to totally defeat the decadent and progressive western. Cindy Kelly, the village is Florida. Democrats say Trump will be a dictator, if elected.
Starting point is 00:07:32 Is Biden not acting like one? He disregards USA laws regarding our border and student loan forgiveness. He has the power to forgive student loans taken from the federal government. Just everybody should know that. Supreme Court said he couldn't do it in private loans. Everybody should know them. In a moment. something you might not know.
Starting point is 00:07:54 Power, politics, and the people behind the headlines. I'm Miranda Devine, New York Post columnist, and the host of the brand new podcast, Podforce One. Three hundred thirty-two years ago today, one of the darkest periods in American history began in colonial Massachusetts. The religious hysteria destroyed hundreds of families and claimed the lives of 20 innocent people. Here is the story of the Salem witch trials. The fear of witchcraft began in Europe during the 13th century. By 1692, the phobia spread to North America. In February of that year, young girls began suffering fits. Soon, they claim to have been attacked by unforeseen forces during the night.
Starting point is 00:09:20 The children accused three villagers in Salem of consorting with the devil, a Caribbean slave named Tituba, Sarah Good, a homeless woman, and Sarah Osborne, an elderly lady. Well, over the next 15 months, dozens were put on trial. The youngest is four years old, she implicated her own mother as a witch. During the proceedings, the alleged victims would shriek, faint, and scream profanities. The methods used to detect the devil were bizarre. Suspects were stripped and searched. Their bodies scoured for signs of Satan. In the end, most of them confessed to being witches because if you did that, they wouldn't hang you. Well, a frenzy lasted more than a year.
Starting point is 00:10:16 200 people were tried, 30 found guilty, 20 executed, others in prison for long periods of time. The governor of Massachusetts finally stopped the madness when his own wife was accused of being a witch. And here's something else you might not know. The hunt for Satanus was not confined to New England. The worst witch hunt in human history occurred in Central Europe. During the Protestant Reformation, religious factions waives war for control of Germany and France. Each side accused the other of doing the devil's business. Between 1,500 and 1692, more than 500,000 alleged witches were executed in Europe, 90% women.
