Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. It is Wednesday, February 5th, 2025. Here's what happening today in America. The Middle East Riviera. Warning to Iran. Flights to Gitmo. And the last Secretary of Education. It's all coming up. And Bill's going to be here with your message today. But first, the Prime Minister of Israel visited Trump yesterday at the White House. And at their joint press conference, Trump told the world, quote, the U.S. will take. take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it. We will own it and be responsible for dismantling all the dangerous, unexploded bombs on the site. We'll level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out, and create an economic development that will supply unlimited number of jobs and housing for the people of the area. You can't go back. If you go back,

it will end up the same way it has for 100 years. You have to learn from history. We have an opportunity to do something phenomenal, the Riviera of the Middle East. Trump has talked in the past that he wants Egypt and Jordan to take in Gaza's residence. Asked if the U.S. would deploy troops to take over Gaza, Trump said that, quote, we will do what's necessary. We'll take it over and develop it. Trump also took the press that if Iran assassinates him, he has ordered the military to obliterate Iran. He said, quote, there won't be anything left. The Justice Department announced in November that an Iranian plot to kill Trump before the election was thwarted.

The government alleged that Iranian officials instructed Farhad Shakiri in September to focus on surveying and ultimately assassinating Trump. He's still at large in Iran. The first flight transporting illegal aliens to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba left from El Paso yesterday. The camp in Cuba is currently undergoing modifications that will allow it to hold up to 30,000 illegal aliens. The president of El Salvador may have freed up some capacity as well.

according to administration officials, El Salvador agreed to accept U.S. deportations of any nationality, including violent criminals, and put them in El Salvador, they have what they call the mega jail holds 40,000 people. The biggest jail in America is in Louisiana

only holds 6,000. So to be clear, El Salvador said they would accept illegal immigrants that were deporting no matter what country they're from. Trump also told the press that he has tasked the new Secretary of Education who hasn't even been confirmed yet. But he's tasked Linda McMahon with winding down the department entirely.

He said, quote, and what I want to do is to let the states run schools. I believe strongly in school choice. I want the states to run schools and I want Linda to put herself out of a job. You're not the only one. This pace is absolutely insane. J.D. Vance said that Trump is having the time of his life as president and this breakneck pace, J.D. says, is going to be the same for four straight years. passed away in Wales. The guy had some interesting insights, one of which is paramount. Quote, people's opinions are mainly designed to make them feel comfortable. Truth, for the most part, is a secondary consideration. unquote. That bit of wisdom is rising in America, stimulated by President Trump. His supporters tend to accept whatever he does without question, while his detractors refuse to acknowledge any worthiness at all. Presto, a divided country. The loyal American owes it to the nation to understand exactly what's going on. If you think Trump is Hitler, you need a long rest in a remote place. Likewise, if you feel that he's St. Peter, you need to check yourself into a spa. The president

owns a vivid vision of success. But that is certainly not shared by everyone. And that's fine if positive national result is a goal for all. Trump's tariffs created a mini hysteria. You should read by mail. But the economic details may bring in significant money to American industry and improve our security as well. That could happen. But if it doesn't and inflation ignites again,

Well, number one, I didn't say he values loyalty as far as RFK is concerned. I said he made a deal with RFK

and he upholds the deals, President Trump. Mike Pence did the right thing, in my opinion, I said that right from the jump about certifying the election of 2020. Trump didn't do the wrong thing.

Five years ago today, the president of the United States was acquitted on two articles of impeachment.

Here is the story behind the effort to vanquish Donald Trump. The alleged scandal began in September 2019 when a White House whistleblower claimed Mr. Trump tried to extort information from the leader of Ukraine Zelensky. According to the informant, Mr. Trump demanded damaging intelligence about Joe Biden and his son Hunter. And the balance was $400 million of U.S. military aid to Ukraine. Well, on September 24th, then Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi launched six separate Congressional Committee investigations. Two months later, the House approved two articles of impeachment. The first abuse of power passed with a final vote.

2.30 in favor, 197 against all the dissenters for Republicans, as was expected. The second article obstruction of Congress passed 229 to 198 against. The only flip was Democrat Jared Goldstein, who voted for President Trump. The motions, both of them, were then sent to the Senate. On February 5, 2020, the lawmakers reached a decision. 48 senators supported a verdict of guilty on Article 1, 52 not guilty. 47 senators supported a verdict of guilty on Article 2, 53, not guilty. The Senate would have needed 67 votes to convict Donald Trump so it wasn't even close.

Just one Republican senator broke from his party. That would be Mitt Romney, who voted for impeachment. And here's something else you might not know. The Democratic drive to remove Donald Trump did not end there. In January 2021, the president was impeached a second time. This one, over the January 6th Capitol riot. Trump was acquitted again, final tally, 57 to 43. But this time seven Republicans voted to kick Donald Trump out of the White House in a figurative way.
