Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater.
Thank you, Bill. It's Tuesday, February 6th, 2024. Here's what happening today in America. Chaos in D.C.
Alegals acting illegally, reign in California, cancer in the king, and all rise in Iowa.
It's all coming up. Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, absolute chaos in D.C.
as this new immigration bill has been released.
There are senators that are so vehemently opposed to this bill.
They're calling for people to be primaried
and even maybe removed from leadership positions entirely.
It's so bad it looks like even McConnell won't vote for his own bill
that he's a supporter or Lankford even.
And the Democrats spin, of course, is Republicans.
Why don't you want to secure the border like us Democrats do?
Oh, that's rich.
Steve Scalice said, let me be clear.
the Senate bill will not receive a vote in the House.
Speaking of illegal immigrants,
New York City Police Department executed a search warrant,
arrested seven suspects, all from Venezuela,
linked to the theft of 62 phones
from women who they pickpocketed or snatched their purses.
They would ride up behind their victim,
usually a woman walking alone on the sidewalk,
and mug them right there.
They would then use their Apple pay as much as possible
and then send the phones back to Colombia, where they were wiped and resold.
This right after six asylum seekers were arrested for beating up two police officers in Times Square,
and of course released without pale and then flipped off you as they were leaving the courthouse.
Massive amounts of rain in Los Angeles in particular, up to 10 inches in some areas.
L.A. averages 14 inches a year.
We know of one storm-related death.
Another man jumped into the L.A. River trying to save his dog.
both were rescued. Many people evacuated due to mudslides, especially in places where there
recently were wildfires. The King of the United Kingdom has cancer, started treatment
last night. The King 75, he has cancelled all public events, and Prince Harry has flown home
to England. In patriotism news, the Iowa State Legislature is considering a law that would require
schools to have everyone stand for the singing of the national anthem at the start of each
school day. A lot of schools don't even do the Pledge of Allegiance anymore. This bill would not only
require students to sing the anthem every day, but also to learn about the song, how it was written,
the history of it, how it became our national anthem. One Democrat said this is a bad bill
because, quote, focusing on the anthem takes away from learning. If only more people knew about
the Battle of Fort McHenry and Francis Scott Key, there would probably be a lot less kneeling.
By the way, I'd like to nominate the fourth stanza of the national anthem to be.
sung at sporting events. Bill O'Reilly with your message today. Next.

Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day.
On this Tuesday, if I were a congressperson or a senator, I would not vote for this new border bill.
It is 570 pages long.
It is extremely confusing.
It is impossible for the government to carry out the mandates in it.
For example, they have to tally up every day how many migrants attempt to cross into the United States from San Diego to Brownsville.
Well, who's going to do that?
Not border patrol. It's impossible.
So this is a big ruse.
what should happen is that President Biden, by executive order, should close the border for six months, at least so that the federal government can reorganize its asylum procedures, which is in the bill, but that's going to take time to reorganize that.
and the local states and cities that are drowning with migrants getting entitlements can smooth that
out. That's the first thing that should happen. And then you deliberate on how you want to go
forward. But this new bill is designed to give President Biden cover because 70% of Americans
believe he has screwed up the southern border.
I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at
Bill O'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Name in town if you wish to opine.
Let's go to the mail. We got Jim. Bill, you left out one thing in your column.
President Biden gave asylum seekers a fast-track option to efficiently enter the USA in a way that would be classified as
legal. That's true. And everybody knows it, which is why his approval rating on the issue is
70%. Eric Eakin, Carson City, Nevada. I can often brag prosecute Donald Trump, yet allows the
perps who assaulted the NYPD officers to go free because he's an ideologue. He's not a law
enforcement agent. He's a far left progressive. That's what he does.
Tony Padgett, Chandler, Arizona, I live here.
One of the reasons we have so many people supporting Joe Biden is that people from California are moving in.
It's true.
Demographics are changing in the state of Arizona.
Roddinghampton, Crossroads, Texas.
Bill, you're correct that federal law top state law.
The problem a lot of people have is that federal law says drugs are illegal, yet many states are legalizing drugs.
But federal law overrides that.
So say the state of Oregon, which legalize hard drugs, possession, all right, if you're
an FBI agent and you want to and you see somebody with heroin, you can arrest them.
State can't stop you.
Same thing with marijuana.
It's legal.
Okay.
But if feds build a case against somebody selling marijuana, they can't stop them.
the prosecuting federal court.
Charles, as a retired high school teacher,
I believe banning cell phones in schools.
They serve no purpose or that tend to distract students.
And they provide a tool for cheating on tests.
Absolutely right.
If I were a teacher these days,
and as you guys know, I was one once,
be no cell phones allowed in my class.
Now, if I were in public school, I couldn't enforce it.
In private school, it could.
There you go.
In a moment, something you must.
might not know.

Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know.
Sixteen years ago today, the CIA acknowledged for the first time the use of enhanced
interrogation on foreign terror suspects.
President George W. Bush defended the practice claiming it was necessary to prevent
future attacks against America.
Here is a story behind water.
boarding. The technique was first developed in the 15th century and deployed during the Spanish
Inquisition. To produce confessions, a prisoner was placed on a wooden plank with a cloth
covering his face. Jars of water were slowly poured over the prisoner's head, inducing the
sensation of drowning. The brutality was popular because of
had left no physical marks on the body.
Waterboarding was used by the Japanese during World War II,
then by the Viet Cong.
The technique was leader designated a form of torture
by the United Nations, the United Kingdom,
and other organizations, but not the USA.
After 9-11, Bush the Younger authorized the method
on enemy combatants who were believed
to have intel information.
In early 2006, allegations of torture were reported by ABC News and the Wall Street Journal.
On February 6, 2008, CIA Director Michael Hayden confirmed the use of waterboarding on three prisoners, all high-ranking members of al-Qaeda.
President Bush defended his decision on Fox News.
Whatever we have done was legal, and whatever decision I will make will be reviewed by the
Justice Department to determine whether or not the legality is there. And the reason why
there's a difference between what I, what happened in the past and today, there's new law.
And so to answer your question, whatever we will do will be legal.
And here's something else you might not know. Barack Obama banned enhanced interrogation
in January 2009. Two years later, he authorized the raid that killed Osama,
bin Laden. Some of the intelligence used to locate bin Laden was obtained by waterboarding.
Back after this.
