Starting point is 00:00:41 Here's what's happening this week in America. Vote, voted. NC2A falls in line, ice leaks, and the big game. It's all coming up, and Bill's going to be here with your message today. With first, huge news for Trump and the Doge team and the American people, the Senate voted to confirm Russ Vote as the director of the Office of Management and budget. Democrats spoke on the Senate floor for 30 hours, just 30 hours of speech is trying to drag it out. But in the end, it was a party line vote, 53 to 47. Get ready for
Starting point is 00:01:09 something called impoundment from the office of management of budget. Democrats in Congress think that when the House appropriates money, that's the floor of spending. And the executive branch has to spend it all. Impoundment means, and Russ vote believes, that when Congress appropriates money, that's a ceiling. And the executive branch can spend less than that. than that if they want. They don't have to spend all of it. After Trump's executive order banning boys from girl sports and men from women's sports, the NC2A has fallen in line their new health and safety guideline, student athletes assigned
Starting point is 00:01:43 male at birth in competition, a student athlete assigned male at birth may not compete on a women's team. For some reason, the NC2A says that a man can still practice on a women's team, but I suppose this is a good start. Three former University of Pennsylvania female swimmers are going to sue the university and the NC2A and the Ivy League Council of Presidents after they allowed a man, William Thomas, now known as Leah Thomas, to compete on the women's team. Tom Holman and ICE led four raids in Aurora, Colorado, to capture members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. But Holman says that the raid was leaked, greatly reducing the number of Venezuelan gang members that they were able to arrest. Holman said we're not going to tolerate it anymore.
Starting point is 00:02:26 To have this type of interference puts officers at great risk. This is not a joke. This is a serious business. And they need to stop or we're going to prosecute them through the Department of Justice. Still, 100 members of the gang were arrested in the raids. The big game is this weekend. I'm technically legally not allowed to say the word that we're all thinking. But it's the Kansas City Chiefs versus the Philadelphia Eagles.
Starting point is 00:02:49 As you've heard 10 billion times so far, no team has won three straight. championships in the NFL. This is the Eagles' fifth championship game. They're one and three. Their last appearance was two years ago, where they lost to the Chiefs. This is the Chief's seventh championship game. Four wins, two losses. The 20 most watched TV programs of all time are all the big game, except for the mash finale in 1983. That's the 11th most watched. Kendrick Lamar is going to lead the halftime show, kickoff 630 Eastern on Fox. I'm Mike Slater from Politics by Faith. Bill O'Reilly with your message of the day. Next.

Starting point is 00:03:56 Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day. On this Thursday at a Super Bowl week, and that means, actually, I don't know what it means. Nevertheless, thousands are flocking to New Orleans to socialize and fight heartburn if they can't digest Caj it. A very troubled city, the Big Easy, is also unique and full of interesting history. But you have to watch yourself in the quarter, as it is a magnet for miscreants. On the football front, both Philadelphia and Kansas City could win the game. They're evenly matched. More than 100 million viewers are expected to watch even more than see me on YouTube.
Starting point is 00:04:39 And President Trump says he will be there. In a press conference this week, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was asked if the league will pull back on DEI now that the Trump administration is after it. Mr. Goodale said, no. According to the team rosters, 53% of the players are black. But all of them are on the field because of merit. Believe me, there's no racial aspect of professional football. You either perform or see you later.
Starting point is 00:05:15 The NFL does have one DEI rule. Each team must interview an African-American candidate when a head coaching job opens. Doesn't have to hire the person, just has to consider. Roger Goodell did a good job knocking back the insidious kneeling during the National Anthem stuff that erupted a few years ago and hurt the lead. The DEI trend doesn't really impact what happens on the field, and Goodell doesn't want to foster controversy, so it will remain. Doesn't bother me. If you're good enough, you'll get a chance to play, no matter what color you are. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill o'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly. Name in town, if you wish to opine. Let's go to the mail. We got Patrick Condon, Newfoundland, Canada. I hope you're warm up there, Patrick.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Hey, O'Reilly, you said yesterday Trump would cancel tariffs of Canada, let the USA sell more stuff. here. Instead, we have to make border changes that Mexico is doing while being lumped in with Mexico, and that has caused a lot of left-leaning politicians to be silently horrified. The tariffs talk actually did some good, and that Canadians are talking about being so reliant on the USA for our trade. I think that's an accurate assessment of what happened, Patrick. We got Donald John and Vernon, British Columbia, Canada. How did Trump, do the impossible. He was able to replace Trudeau with himself as a person most hated by Canadians. Well, I mean, if you've got a humongous trade deficit, I think it's $9 billion to your favor, kind of his favor. I think you got to look at that. No? I don't know why you hate the guy. He's not taken over. He says 51st state.
Starting point is 00:07:17 But again, it's what he does to get everybody up in arms, cliche, and engaged. Joe Rasmus, Saranak, Michigan, I'm hoping you can discuss and clarify some comments I've seen online. CNN reported that Mexico and Canada were actually doing things. They were already doing, and Trump gained nothing. Propaganda. Trump gained a lot and will gain more. Those troops at Mexico's putting $100,000 down there, that stops it cold. And influences the drug traffic, too.
Starting point is 00:07:53 In a moment, something you might not know. Amazon Pharmacy Presents Painful Thoughts. 20 more minutes to kill in the pharmacy before my prescription is ready. Maybe I'll grab some deeply discounted out-of-season Halloween candy. Hmm, I never had a chocolate pumpkin with raisins before. Those were raisins, right? Next time, use Amazon Pharmacy.
Starting point is 00:08:21 We deliver. And no, those were not raisins. Amazon Pharmacy. Healthcare just got less painful. Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might. Not no. 236 years ago, General George Washington returned a public life after being selected as the first president of the United States.
Starting point is 00:08:42 Here is the story. The process began. in 1788, following the ratification of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia. The document established the office of the president, vice president, and an electoral college determined by each state's population. Under the previous system, based on the Articles of Confederation, the national government was headed by Congress. There was no president. In January 1789, that all changed. 69 electors cast their ballot for George Washington, making him the president in a unanimous vote.
Starting point is 00:09:25 John Adams won 34 votes as vice president. Two of the original 13 colonies, North Carolina and Rhode Island, hadn't yet ratified the Constitution so they didn't participate. New York failed to choose electors. due to an internal dispute, some things never change. On February 4th, George Washington was officially elected as the first president of the United States sworn into office on April 30, 1789. And here's something else you might not know. It would be another 35 years before the popular vote kicked in.
Starting point is 00:10:06 The election of 1824 was the first contest. where 18 states used a popular vote to decide the winner. Six states let the choice up to local politicians. Before that, there was no mechanism to count popular votes. Well, the results in 24 were chaos. John Quincy Adams was selected by the House of Representatives. He defeated Andrew Jackson, despite losing the popular vote to Old Hickory,
Starting point is 00:10:39 who was furious and came back four years later to defeat Quincy. For more fascinating stories about our nation's chief executives, please check out my bestselling book confronting the president's five months on the New York Times bestseller list. Back after this. If you're thirsting for asphalt's melting your work booth, tape measure has anger issues, nail guns talking smack again, and hard hat baked onto head-level refreshments,
