Starting point is 00:00:00 Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly Update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. It is Friday, January 13th, 2020. Here's what's happening today in America. Another stash of classified documents. Lisa Marie Presley has passed away. Inflation down a smidge. It's a technical term, smidge. And the brownies have changed their name. And then Bill will be back with the message of the day. But first, more classified documents were found this time in the garage of one of Biden's homes. Peter Ducey asked Biden, classified materials next to your Corvette? What were you thinking? And Biden said, my Corvette's in a locked garage, okay?
Starting point is 00:00:45 It's not like they were sitting out in the street. Doocy said, so the material was in a locked garage? And Biden said, yes, as well as my Corvette. What? So there's pictures of Biden. And the pictures of him are with the Corvette outside of the garage. And it's like an old garage with windows on the top of the door panels. Like any third-rate burglar could break into that.
Starting point is 00:01:04 It was no Fort Knox. The president is now under investigation by special counsel. Lisa Marie Presley passed away at the age of 54. The daughter of Elvis Presley, she was found by housekeeper, died from a heart attack. She was nine years old when she found her father no longer alive in 1977. Lisa Marie was married four times, including to Michael Jackson and Nicholas K. age. She was addicted to cocaine and opioids and her son committed suicide in 2020 at the age of 27. Oh, a life full of tragedy. Inflation is cooling a little bit. The CPI consumer price index
Starting point is 00:01:43 fell 0.1% for the month, still 6.5% increase from a year ago. Eggs in particular have gone up a ton. The cheapest carton of eggs in Manhattan was 339 for 12. Are you kidding? That's nothing. You'll be lucky to find $10 for a dozen in parts of California. In politically correct words news, yesterday we shared the air traffic control system that went down. Used to be called Notam, notice to airmen. Now it's called notice to air mission to be more inclusive of, I guess, female pilots. And then USC says you can't say the word field anymore that conjures up images of slavery. Well, here's another one for you.
Starting point is 00:02:24 The Girl Scouts in Canada are no longer going to be called. The Brownies. That's racist. They've been known as the Brownies since 1918 because of an old Scottish folk tale where a household spirit called a brownie would come out at night and finish up the chores and farming tasks for the family. The idea was that these little girls should not be lazy, but instead should learn how to be helpful like the brownies. They're now called the Embers. Bill is here with the message of the day. Next.

It has been an awful first 12 days of the year for Joe Biden, the president of the United States. Can it get any worse? Yes. Will it? Yes,
Starting point is 00:03:43 it will. I mean, I almost laugh derisively when I hear that Joe Biden's going to run again in 24. In my opinion, he will not. Things will be so bad then, it'll be almost incomprehensible that he would run. Anyway, the latest, of course, is these documents. He pounded Donald Trump for having classified documents sent to Mara Lago in Palm Beach, which was against the law, and Mr. Trump should not have done that. I submit to you, Mr. Trump had no idea, but when he found out, he did not cooperate fully and so it blew up into a huge controversy will now President Biden's on the same thing so there are documents in his house in Delaware there's documents in DC office his documents here there everywhere and a special counsel how many of
Starting point is 00:04:37 those do we have a special counsel has been appointed to investigate all right his name is Robert her okay so he joins John Durham and a guy investigating Trump, and I don't even know how many of these people there are. It will all lead to nothing. And Donald Trump is the luckiest guy in the country right now because they can't prosecute him on any document thing because Biden did the same thing. And again, this will all amount to nothing. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. If you'd like more honest news analysis, please visit Bill O'Reilly.com.
Starting point is 00:05:21 You can reach me, Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Let's go to the mail. Philip, spending millions to fix the airline computer system to keep Americans safe. It's what the government is supposed to do with my money, not flush it away on climate change boondoggles and jogging trails in Georgia.
Starting point is 00:05:43 Right on. That's a good letter, Philip. Kathleen, I cannot believe the House bill to remove $70 billion from the budget was nayed by the Democrats. Are they not thinking of the U.S. citizens or are they foolishly thinking it won't affect tax barriers making less than $400,000? It's about government control, Kathleen. The progressive left, Democratic Party wants big government to tell you what you can and can't do, and that goes for money. You get all those IRS agents all over you. Okay, that's what they want.
Starting point is 00:06:16 William Nelson, Proser, Washington, when I was a kid back in the 50s and 60s, we all knew there were poor people, homeless out of work folks, but we didn't see them. Now you see tents lined up in most large cities throughout the country. My question is, where have all these homeless folks come from? They've come from your neighborhood, William. They come from everywhere. Most of them are drug addicted. If you are addicted to hard drugs, you can't hold a job. You can't have a house because you can't pay the rent or mortgage it.
Starting point is 00:06:48 And so you find yourself destitute and you go where other drug addicts go. You conjure together. And so they've decided to go to San Francisco where they're paid $1,000 a month by the city. And they spend it on heroin and fentanyl, whatever, meth. And then more and more and more and more come. That's what happens. In a moment, something you might not know. Power, politics and the people behind the headlines.
Starting point is 00:07:19 I'm Miranda Devine, New York Post columnist and the host of the brand new podcast, Podforce One. You don't want to miss an episode. Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know. 29 years ago today, police in Oregon arrested two men for brutally beating an Olympic figure skater.
Starting point is 00:08:10 The event kicked off a global soap opera that lasted weeks. Here is the story of the assault on Nancy Kerrigan. One of Ms. Carrigan's chief rivals for a place on the U.S. skating team was Tanya Harding. In December 1993, Harding's ex-husband, Jeff Gilhuli, approached his friend, Sean Eckhart, about eliminating Nancy Kerrigan. Eckert set up a meeting with Derek Smith and Shane Stant, who agreed to injure Nancy. For cash. On January 6, 1994, Kerrigan was departing a practice session in Detroit. A man appeared from the darkness and smashed the skater in the knee with a metal club. The assailant escaped, Nancy Kerrigan left on the ground screaming, why?
Starting point is 00:09:02 After the assault, Shane Stant fled the ice rink in Smith's getaway car. With Kerrigan unable to skate, Tanya Harding won the championship in Detroit, and a place on the 1994 Olympic team. Police used surveillance footage to track the getaway car. On January 11th, Smith confessed to FBI agents. Three days later, Stant surrendered, also confessing, Harding herself denied any involvement. At the Olympics in Norway, the competition between Harding and Caritas, who by then had recovered, became a global sensation.
Starting point is 00:09:49 In the end, Nancy took home the silver medal, Harding was shut out. After the games, Tanya Harding pleaded guilty to conspiracy. She was fined $100,000 and sentenced to probation with 500 hours of community service. Today, Nancy Kerrigan is an actress and Super Bowl correspondent for Inside Edition. Tanya Harding is a reality TV person and a retired female boxer. She has appeared on Dancing with the Stars and Worst Cooks in America. And here's something else you might not know. The drama surrounding the assault smash ratings for all previous Olympics.
