Starting point is 00:00:00 Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the weekend edition of the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thanks, Bill. Here's what's happening this week in America. The Houthis attacked Belichick out, law enforcement deaths down, and a beloved candy discontinued. That's all coming up.
Starting point is 00:00:22 Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, United States and UK militaries launched strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen yesterday. Over a dozen targets were hit by missiles, fired from the air, surface, and sub-platforms, all done to try and get the Houthis to stop targeting ships in the Red Sea so that the ships can make it to Europe and North America without sailing underneath South Africa. The purpose of the Navy is to ensure safe shipping lanes and these Iranian-backed Houthis are making it too dangerous. The United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken was in the region. And he said, if it doesn't stop, we said there will be consequences.
Starting point is 00:01:02 And unfortunately, it hasn't stopped. Bill Belichick has left the Patriots, 24 seasons, six Super Bowls later. Everyone, at least publicly, seems to have left on good terms. The team's owner, Bob Kraft, said Coach Belichick will forever be celebrated as a legendary sports icon here in New England. Tom Brady, who played with him for 20 years, called Belichick the best coach in the history of the NFL. He leaves New England with 33 career victories just behind Don Shula as 347. And he has eight Super Bowl wins, two with the Giants as an assistant coach. Law enforcement deaths in the line of duty decreased by 40% in 2020 compared to the year prior.
Starting point is 00:01:46 Last year, 136 federal state and local law enforcement officers died in the line of duty compared to 224 the year before. 47 officers were shot and killed. in the line of duty. That's a 25% decrease compared to the 63% the year before. Now, more officers were shot, but fewer died. It's also getting harder for many cities to even find any police officers. The number of police officers has fallen by 4% over the last four years. Some departments can't hire anyone. San Francisco, the starting salary for a new police officers, $120,000 a year. And after the defund the police and all the different social changes of the last few years, it's harder to get anyone to take it.
Starting point is 00:02:26 Do you remember fruit, stripe, gum? The logo was a zebra, but the stripes were green, yellow, and red. Well, it's over. Ferrara, the owner of the gum, said the decision to sunset this product was not taken lightly. The company still makes fun dip, pixie sticks, and nerds. This gum was sold since the 60s, the five flavors, wet and wild melon, cherry, lemon, orange, and peach. And each pack came with a temporary tattoo of the zebra. If you see any in a store, stock up while you can.
Starting point is 00:02:57 That's the last shipment anyone will get. I'm Mike Slater, Bill O'Reilly with your message to the day. Next. Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress. It will be the dirtiest presidential campaign in history.
Starting point is 00:04:19 Pigs won't fly, but they will be ecstatic with the mud flow. Already, Adolf Hitler, aka Donald Trump, as a featured role, as does Demented Joe the incumbent. It wasn't that long ago that President Bush, the younger, personally welcomed Barack Obama to the White House with a warm personal chat and a nice beverage. That will not happen in January 2025 as political vitriol is going to reach an all-time high during the campaign. President Biden will not debate, so don't expect any face-to-face insults. It will be a verbal hand-grenade affair from afar, and the exposition will be vivid. Mr. Trump has already called Mr. Biden the worst president in history, senile, lazy, stupid, corrupt, a drooler, a nitwit, and a snotley goster. Not to be outdone, the president describes or implies.
Starting point is 00:05:21 that Trump is sick, a Nazi, a racist, a miscrean, a Bulgarian, corrupt, a traitor, and a climate denier. Biden says his likely opponent would impose fascism on America, perhaps even relaunch U-boats. Democracy works best when there is robust debate and a concentration on problem-solving. Starts to wobble when hatred dominates. Get ready for the wobble. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve. I approve. the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Name in town if you wish to opine. Let's go to The Mail. We got Ann. Just starting, and I'm already tired of being called an incompetent mag-cultist. Biden should realize that when he calls about half the country domestic terrorists, they're not going to vote for him. Biden's not interested
Starting point is 00:06:18 in persuading anybody. He wants to scare people. He doesn't want to persuade. David, concierge member, David gets direct access to me. All that you say is the absolute cold, hard fact with this election here, Bill. Unfortunately, Trump will once again be his own worst enemy, only with more vigorous vengeance this year. He's too angry to focus on anything else. He's angry.
Starting point is 00:06:43 I'm no doubt about it. Wendy attack Mesa, Arizona, President Trump is considered to have taken a role in January 6th insurrection isn't Nancy Pelosi also guilty since she did not call out the guard. Wendy, remember Mrs. Pelosi denies. She did it. She didn't call the guard, but she denies it. Let's remember that. Raymond Royer, Escondito, California, why are so many Republican voters convinced that a Trump four-year term would more effective the American people than dissent us or Nikki Haley because they want an avenger. The Maga people want Trump. to go in with a sledgehammer and hurt these progressives.
Starting point is 00:07:27 That's what they want to answer your question. Jay Edmund Freeman, Nashville, Tennessee. William had made it clear. The polls indicate Biden's in trouble behind Nikki Haley. Now Donald Trump, everyone who's paying attention knows that. Why is President Biden doing so well at raising money? Because the progressives, a lot of them are wealthy. Hollywood alone, just unbelievable amounts of.
Starting point is 00:07:51 money into the Democratic coiffers. Jessica Lilly, West Palm Beach, Florida. I've worked in the news industry from more than 25 years. You're the only person I trust in the business. Well, I appreciate that, Jessica. That's nice of you. I mean, we'll give you a fair assessment here. In a moment, something you might not know. Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might Not no. Four years ago, this week, doctors in Wuhan, China began treating patients with high fever, coughs, severe fatigue. The doctors believed the victims are suffering from a seasonal flu. Officials in Beijing soon realized they were dealing with a new kind of virus, one that killed at an alarming rate five times higher than regular flu. COVID-19 had arrived. Here is the story. Chinese researchers initially claim the bug originated at a wet food market. That means they sell live critters that you kill there and eat like bats. Today, most experts
Starting point is 00:09:33 believe the pandemic emerged from the Wuhan lab itself. Communist Party immediately moved to cancel the outbreak. Folks were forbidden from leaving their homes, entering public buildings, even shopping for food. Anyone caught outside was arrested. Some violators were paraded through streets wearing placards stating crimes against the party. More than one billion Chinese were ordered to stay indoors the largest quarantine in human history.
Starting point is 00:10:08 Well, the campaign to stop the virus failed. Beginning in January 2020, the disease spread through air travel to Milan, London, Madrid, and eventually New York City. The World Health Organization backed Beijing. Shortly after the outbreak, the group released the following statement, quote, China's actions help prevent the spread of the coronavirus to other countries. We're very pleased and encouraged by the Chinese President's detailed knowledge of the outbreak. We thank them for averting a global catastrophe, unquote, and incredibly stupid, world health organization. Four years later, the virus had infected at least 800 million people, 7 million are dead, and here's something else you might not know.
Starting point is 00:11:04 To this day, no one completely understands the real situation in China. Communist Party stopped reporting data in December 2022. According to Beijing, just 5,000 Chinese people have died from COVID. Global health authorities believe that figure is closer to 5 million. Back after this. Power, politics, and the people behind the headlines. I'm Miranda Devine, New York Post columnist, and the host of the brand new podcast, Podforce One.
