Bill O'Reilly here.
You are listening to the O'Reilly update.
Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater.
Thank you, Bill.
It's Monday, January 13th, 2025.
Here's this happening today in America.
Wildfire still raging.
Newsom tough on crime.
New York stabbing and Hegseth confirmation process.
It's all coming up.
The bill's going to be here with your message of the day.
But first, wildfire still blazing in Los Angeles.
Over 12,000 structures destroyed.
Over 100,000 people.
under mandated evacuation orders, 87,000 under an evacuation warning.
The two main fires are starting to be contained in some parts, but the winds could whip up
and spark it all back up again.
These high winds are expected through Wednesday.
One 32-year-old man is blind and has cerebral palsy and has trouble walking, and his mother
has a broken arm.
He said to her mom, leave me.
She drove to the local fire department for help, but they told her they did not have any water.
The fire department drove her back home, and the home, with her son in it, was burned to the ground.
29 arrests have been made so far in L.A. County during these fires, at least one group of arrests,
the people were dressed up as firefighters as they were walking in and out of homes,
burglarizing them.
Police say these burglars don't live in these areas.
Governor Gavin Newsom said there will be zero tolerance for looting.
Elon Musk tweeted out, Newsom and California Democrats literally decriminalized looting,
barring police from arresting looters and prosecutors.
prosecutors from prosecuting them, and now he's opposed to looting.
Newsom wrote back, stop encouraging looting by lying and telling people it's decriminalized.
It's not.
It's illegal and always has been.
These progressive places have been very soft on crime for a while now.
New York, another progressive bastion.
A man was arrested for stabbing and murdering a 14-year-old.
He was walking to school.
He called his dad as he was on the ground dying.
His dad heard him die over the phone.
This murderer also stabbed another man last week in the arm.
right in public, broad daylight.
He was arrested last November for another crime
released the next day.
He was also arrested in 2019 for burglary and arson
and also 2017 and 2015
on weapons possession charges.
But yeah, these people, they're real tough on crime.
Coming right after Trump's sentencing in New York
to unconditional discharge, which is nothing.
Special counsel, Jack Smith, has resigned
from the Department of Justice.
He will be the first of many.
The incoming national security advisor, Mike Waltz,
said that all the Biden holdovers
and the National Security Council will be asked for their resignation at 1201 on January 20th,
only a week from today.
The nomination of Pete Heggsath for Secretary of Defense starts tomorrow.
The senator from Arizona, Democrat Mark Kelly, says that Hexath just does not seem to have
the qualifications for the appointment.
They're going to try to Cavanaugham.
But the Senate Majority Leader Jonathan Thune told Trump, reportedly, that Heggseth has the
votes needed to get confirmed.
He needs 50.
Republicans have a 53-seat majority.
Mike Slater, Bill O'Reilly with your message of the day.

Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day.
On this Monday, we are living in the United States of blame.
It is very easy to blame others for problems.
And most of us do that.
And a vivid example is the California fire situation.
So President Trump says it's all Governor Newsom's fault.
Newsom says that's crazy.
The truth is somewhere in the middle.
But the blame game is intense.
So here's what's going on.
As everybody knows, California is prone to fires, mudslides, and natural disasters.
The state run by Gavin Newsom is not prepared to fight these occurrences.
Here's an example.
Ten years ago, the legislature in Sacramento okayed the construction of seven water storage facilities.
Now, you may have heard, and it is true, that Los Angeles firefighters say they didn't
have enough water to fight the blazes when they broke out, so they spread. That is true.
Seven water storage facilities might have prevented that. But no, they were not built in
California. Why? Because of environmentalists, they didn't want to hurt the snail darter and other
the truth.
I'm Bill O'Reilly.
I approve the message by writing it.

Now let's go to the mail.
All right.
Kenny Lindsay, New Hudson, Michigan.
Bill, I took your advice and didn't speak a word of politics
during our New Year's Eve gathering.
However, by our
accident I was drinking from my not woke mug and I got some sneers. But that's good. That's good. See, nobody sneers at me because that might not end well. But if somebody did and I have my not woke mug and I was going and somebody was sneering, I'd say, okay, so what is the problem?
Why are you sneering when I'm drinking from my not-woke mug?
I'm not woke.
Are you woke?
And then you get into a discussion.
Why are you woke?
Why does being not-woke offend you?
You could have a lot of fun with that.
I would.
I don't get angry about that stuff.
It's dopey.
I can't get these pages.
I don't have fat fingers either.
I don't know what's going on.
Gregory Clancy, Edmund, Oklahoma.
Bill, congratulations on 50 years in the journalism business.
Selfishly, I hope you aren't close to retirement.
I also noticed that the polling organizations you brought on the program before the election
did predict the Trump victory, as did you.
You were the only accurate sources.
Not only, but we were way ahead on that election.
And I'm glad you noticed, Greg.
Thank you.

Now, the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might, not know.
65 years ago today, communist fighters in South Vietnam came together under a single organization.
The guerrillas call themselves a National Liberation Front.
We know them as the Viet Cong.
Here is the story.
After an armed uprising against the French occupation in 1954,
Vietnam was divided into two countries.
The North was ruled by communists with support from China,
the South of fragile democracy backed by the USA.
Despite the split, South Vietnam was home to millions of socialist sympathizers.
In January 1960, the Marxists united under the name Viet Cong.
which simply translates to Vietnamese communists.
Weapons and munitions were ferried into the country from the north.
The group then launched, quote, the people's offensive.
In 1965, 3,000 U.S. soldiers invaded a region southeast of Saigon called Viet Cong Zone D.
But they were unable to find the enemy.
The operation was called off after three days.
Five years later, half a million Americans were fighting in the jungles of Vietnam.
As America became embroiled in the conflict, the Viet Cong launched clandestine operations
against U.S. troops.
At its height, the group consisted of 400,000 communist fighters, most of whom only came out at night.
Many lived in tunnels.
Coochee was a center of operations.
The Vietnam War officially ended on January 27, 1973.
The Paris Peace of Cores were signed by delegates from America, North Vietnam, South Vietnam,
and members of the Viet Cong.
The PAC call for the withdrawal of American forces, a complete ceasefire,
the release of prisoners of war, and no further invasions.
Well, the communist broke the agreement almost immediately after U.S. troops were withdrawn.
Today, Vietnam is a communist nation.
Back after this.
