Starting point is 00:00:00 Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly Update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thanks, Bill. You're listening to the weekend edition of the O'Reilly Update. Here's what's happening this week in America. Another stash of classified documents. Lisa Marie Presley has passed away.
Starting point is 00:00:22 Inflation down a smidge. It's a technical term, smidge. And the brownies have changed their name. And then Bill will be back with the message of the day. But first, more classified documents were found this time in the garage of one of Biden's homes. Peter Ducey asked Biden, classified materials next to your Corvette? What were you thinking? And Biden said, my Corvette's in a locked garage, okay?
Starting point is 00:00:48 It's not like they were sitting out in the street. Ducey said, so the material was in a locked garage? And Biden said, yes, as well as my Corvette. What? So there's pictures of Biden. and the pictures of him are with the Corvette outside of the garage. And it's like an old garage with windows on the top of the door panels. Like any third-rate burglar could break into that.
Starting point is 00:01:08 It was no Fort Knox. The president is now under investigation by special counsel. Lisa Marie Presley passed away at the age of 54. The daughter of Elvis Presley, she was found by a housekeeper, died from a heart attack. She was nine years old when she found her father no longer alive in 1916. 77. Lisa Marie was married four times, including to Michael Jackson and Nicholas Cage. She was addicted to cocaine and opioids and her son committed suicide in 2020 at the age of 27. Oh, a life full of tragedy.
Starting point is 00:01:44 Inflation is cooling a little bit. The CPI Consumer Price Index fell 0.1% for the month, still 6.5% increase from a year ago. Eggs in particular have gone up a ton. The cheapest carton of eggs in Manhattan was 339 for 12. Are you kidding? That's nothing. You'll be lucky to find $10 for a dozen in parts of California. In politically correct words news, yesterday we shared the air traffic control system that went down. Used to be called Notam, notice to airmen. Now it's called Notice to Air Mission to be more inclusive of, I guess, female pilots. And then USC says you can't say the word field anymore that conjures up images of slavery. Well, here's another one for you. The Girl Scouts in Canada are no longer going to be called the Brownies. That's racist. They've been known as the
Starting point is 00:02:37 brownies since 1918 because of an old Scottish folk tale where a household spirit called a brownie would come out at night and finish up the chores and farming tasks for the family. The idea was that these little girls should not be lazy, but instead should learn how to be helpful like the Brownies. They're now called the Embers. is here with the message of the day next. Hey, it's Sean Spicer from the Sean Spicer Show podcast, reminding you to turn into my show every day to get your daily dose inside the world of politics. Starting point is 00:03:15 on the topics the mainstream media won't. So if you're a political junkie on a late lunch or getting ready for the drive home, new episodes of the Sean Spicer Show podcast drop at 2 p.m. coast every day. Make sure you tune in. I am getting some mail from people thanking me for the smart life eating tips that we have on Bill O'Reilly.com. The sad truth is most Americans are slowly killing themselves with a terrible diet. The danger largely hidden from them because the junk food industry is using ad dollars to co-op the media. They take out tens of millions of dollars of advertising on television in sugar, fast foods,
Starting point is 00:04:08 all of that, and it's hurting us. So let's review. Sugar is as harmful as nicotine and addictive as well. Try eating just one Oreo. If you can cut your sugar intake by 50%, you'll feel a lot better and have a much better chance of avoiding painful disease. Sugar-laden drinks are the primary driver of obesity in America, along with fast food and pizza. In today's market, there are tons of low sugar drinks that taste good and stay out of those drive-through windows. Also avoid diet drinks. They are
Starting point is 00:04:44 terrible for you. Bread turns to sugar upon digestion, exception sour dough. Don't eat a big meal after six, that will add pounds fast. Finally, snacks, my go-to is cashews. They fill me up, no sugar. I still eat dessert a few times a week, but discipline my intake. If you drink a glass of water before a meal, you will not eat as heavily. We very much want you around and nimble as you get older. Hope these tips help. I'm Bill O'Reilly, and I approve that message by writing it. If you'd like more honest news analysis, please visit Bill O'Reilly.com. You can reach me, Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Starting point is 00:05:32 That's where I live. Name and town, if you wish to opine. All right, let's go to the mail. Jason Cope, Mountain Home, Arkansas. I have zero confidence Republicans would pass term limits, even if they control both houses of Congress. That one you might be right about. You know, politicians. don't want to limit themselves. It's a pretty soft job. Doug Fouqua, Perlin, Texas, can a president
Starting point is 00:05:59 pardon himself unknown? Never been done. Nixon didn't do it when he resigned. Trump didn't do it. So it is unknown. We'd have to go to the Supreme Court. Neil Watko, Christed Butte, Colorado. What is more dangerous to the Democrats? A Lauren Bobert, who is working to get reelected or Lauren Bobert who knows she won't be reelected but is voting the will of the people in Colorado's District 3. Look, Lauren Bobert is now marginalized along with Matt Gates, so they don't have the respect of their colleagues in the House. My Congressman Santos, he's, I don't know how he can even sit there. So these people, they're there, but they're not going to have any influence on the country. Carrie Hill, Churchville, Virginia. I'm very
Starting point is 00:06:50 appreciative of you, Bill, speaking on how George Soros has his tentacles everywhere. We don't get this kind of coverage even on Fox News. We are from the very beginning on the Soros beat. He was involved in trying to destroy me. Someday I'll write about that in detail. Charles Fish, Colonial Heights, Virginia, the Fairfax schools in Virginia should have listened to your final thought about TCU. They won't honor National Merit Scholars because it might hurt someone's feelings. I know all these liberal districts are doing that, that students who rightly earn recognition aren't getting it awful. In a moment, something you might not know. Power, politics, and the people behind the headlines. I'm Miranda Devine, New York Post columnist,
Starting point is 00:07:40 and the host of the brand new podcast, Podforce One. Every week I'll sit down for candid conversations with Washington's most powerful disruptors, lawmakers, newsmakers, and even the President of the United States. These are the leaders shaping the future of America and the world. Listen to Podforce One with me, Miranda Devine, every week on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcast. You don't want to miss an episode. Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know. No. 29 years ago, police in Oregon arrested two men for brutally beating an Olympic figure skater. The event kicked off a global soap opera that lasted weeks. Here is the story of the assault
Starting point is 00:08:33 on Nancy Kerrigan. One of Ms. Carrigan's chief rivals for a place on the U.S. skating team was Tanya Harding. In December 1993, Harding's ex-husband, Jeff Gilouli, approached his friend, Sean Eckhart, about eliminating Nancy Kerrigan. Eckert set up a meeting with Derek Smith and Shane Stant, who agreed to injure Nancy for cash. On January 6, 1994, Kerrigan was departing a practice session in Detroit. A man appeared from the darkness and smashed the skater in the knee with a metal club. The assailant escaped, Nancy Kerrigan left on the ground screaming, why? After the assault, Shane Stant fled the ice rink in Smith's getaway car.
Starting point is 00:09:24 With Kerrigan unable to skate, Tanya Harding won the championship in Detroit and a place on the 1994 Olympic team. Police used surveillance footage to track the getaway car. On January 11th, Smith confessed to FBI agents. Three days later, Stant surrendered also. confessing, Harding herself denied any involvement. At the Olympics in Norway, the competition between Harding and Carrigan, who by then had recovered, became a global sensation. In the end, Nancy took home the silver medal, Harding was shut out. After the games, Tanya Harding pleaded guilty to conspiracy. She was fined $100,000 and sentenced to probation.
Starting point is 00:10:18 with 500 hours of community service. Today, Nancy Kerrigan is an actress and Super Bowl correspondent for Inside Edition. Tanya Harding is a reality TV person and a retired female boxer. She has appeared on Dancing with the Stars and Worst Cooks in America. And here's something else you might not know. The drama surrounding the assault smash ratings for all previous Olympics. More than 40 million Americans tuned in to watch, Nancy Kerrigan skate in Norway. Back after this.
