Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater.
Thank you, Bill. It's Tuesday, January 14th, 2025. Here's this happening today in America.
Hearings begin. Heggsat, center stage, an illegal arsonist and Trump's threats work. That's all coming up.
Then Bill's going to be here with your message today. But first, the hearings begin today for 13 of Trump's cabinet appointments.
Technically, Trump hasn't officially appointed them because he's not president until,
January 20th, but the Senate can go through the confirmation process to be ready for the moment
that Trump is inaugurated this coming Monday. The hearings were supposed to begin today with
Doug Collins as the head of the VA and Doug Bergam as head of the Department of the Interior,
but both of those hearings were delayed because of FBI background checks. Not that they
failed the background checks, but because the background checks haven't come in yet. Tomorrow is
Kristy Noem, Homeland Security, Pam Bondi at the Department of Justice, Sean Duffy, Department of Transportation,
John Ratcliffe, CIA, Marco Rubio State Department, Chris Wright, at the Department of Energy
and Russ Vote, Office of Management and Budget Busy Day.
It's going to be a very fun week.
Taking center stage of all of this is the hearing of Pete Hegsef.
This is center stage because the left thinks that they can cavanaw him.
They can't, but they're going to try.
Reports say that John Thune, leader of the Senate for the Republicans, says that Hegset has the votes.
He needs 50 votes.
There's 53 Republicans.
The head of the Armed Services Committee on the Republican and the Democrat, both of the leaders
of the Armed Services Committee, say that they've seen Hegsat's FBI file, and they say it's
unremarkable.
So the Dems have nothing on him.
You may have seen video of a male being subdued by residents and arrested by police.
He had a blowtorch in his hand in Los Angeles.
Not a good thing to have walking around Los Angeles right now.
He happens to be an illegal alien.
He's from Mexico.
He's in custody on a probation violation and has not been charged.
with arson yet. Ice will place a detainer request on him with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department,
but ICE does not expect it to be honored because of California's sanctuary state law.
In related news, Gavin Newsom called for a special session of the California legislature to find
ways to combat Trump, specifically on deporting illegal aliens. Sacramento decided to earmark
$50 million to fight Trump, $25 million specifically to defend immigrants against deportation,
detention, and wage theft. I wonder if Newsom and California would.
defend and protect this guy.
Hamas is expected to release
33 hostages in the first phase
of an emerging deal. It's believed that Hamas
has 94 hostages from
October 7th, 2023,
34 of them are dead.
Remember, Trump told Hamas that if these hostages
are not released by the time I take office,
on Monday, there will be hell to
pay. Here we are
six days before he takes office.
I'm Mike Slater from the podcast, Politics by Faith,

Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day.
On this Tuesday, the last week of the Joe Biden presidency, and then the 82-year-old goes quietly into the night.
I don't expect to hear much from the Bidens after the January 20th inauguration of Donald Trump,
which Mr. Biden is attending to his credit.
The question now becomes, what will the Trump administration do
about allegations that Biden took questionable money from his son and brother
and didn't declare it on his income tax?
That's a felony.
The president continues to deny all wrongdoing.
But Congressman James Comer has a new bookout accusing Biden of taking money.
Will the Justice Department investigate that allegation?
Very loaded situation for any incoming president, much less Donald Trump.
I have no idea how he will handle this.
If the new Attorney General Pam Bondi does go after Old Joe, obviously all hell will break loose.
It would be a huge distraction for an administration that has a church.
tremendous amount to do. In the end, the American people have a right to know if a sitting
vice president or president took tainted money from anyone. That should be paramount in a difficult
situation like this. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me.

Now let's go to the mail.
We go to Jeffrey Robinson, Birmingham, Alabama.
Joe Biden said Los Angeles to be 100% reimbursed by the federal government.
Just curious, taxpayers of America will pay for that.
Of course they will.
We think it's going to pay for, Joe.
Any kind of federal grant to do anything comes right from us.
That's why we have a 37-trial.

William, Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom need to have a recall election.
Last time Newsom's Hollywood and Silicon Valley friends got them over the top.
Yesterday, Maria Schrever was on Today's show in San California Tax and Crime were way too high.
And when she says that, you know Democrats in California are true.
California is crazy. I mean, I've said this in a beautiful state. Great weather. Crazy.
John Veneman, Oceanside, California. There you go. John, I hope you're safe out there. Thanks for the column regarding California fires.
I agree 100%. I was born and raised in North San Diego County. I've watched the sad decay of my whole life.
So we have the column, okay, Sunday column, freak. Go to Bill O'Rour.
Riley.com, read it, weep. All true. Diane Braga, Maineville, Ohio. Dear Bill, I would like you,
I would like to help the victims of devastating fires. Could you please direct me to a reputable
source? Right now, the Red Cross is the place to go. All right, but you've got to do some
research on it. You're going to be specific and where you want your donation to go. But I trust
the Red Cross and I hope I'm being responsible here. So right now that's where I would direct
my donations. But we're keeping an eye on it. It's very quick. These fires are still in motion.
Those four people who got hurt and I'm going to be able to go back there. We're going to have
to start all over again. In a moment, something you might not know.
When you're separating from the military, no one tells you how hard it can be to get
your civilian life up to speed. But with VA benefits, it doesn't have to be. From the VA home loan
requiring no down payment to the GI Bill covering tuition, books, and cost of living, to VA health
care offering top-ranked low-cost care designed specifically for veterans. All the support you need
is at VA. I'm here telling every veteran because I wish someone had told me. Get what you earned.
Visit shoes.va.org. Not all veterans are eligible for the type or amount of benefits mentioned
here. Now the O'Reilly update brings you something you might. Not know.
52 years ago today, Elvis Presley starred in a live TV special called Aloha from Hawaii.
At the time, the performance was the most watched entertainment broadcast in history.
Here is the story.
Elvis Aaron Presley born 1935 in a one-bedroom home, rural Mississippi.
In August of 1956, hound dog and the house.
the songs B-side, Don't Be Cruel, which I liked a lot better than Hound Dog, hit number one on
the record charts. Soon the king, as he was branded, racked up 18 number one hits and another
40 in the top 10. Presley sold more than one billion albums worldwide. He appeared in 10
different TV venues and made 31 movies. On January 14, 1973, Elvis and his band performed at the
Honolulu International Center. The show is broadcast live to audiences in the USA, Europe, Asia, and
Australia.
Well, the special briefly ignited Elvis' career in the 70s, but he was fading fast.
He overdosed on drugs twice.
His personal doctor prescribed him 30 different medications within a six-month period.
By 1977, the singer had gained 90 pounds, could no longer walk without a cane, slept a reported
15 hours a day.
In August of that year, the king was discovered dead on the bathroom floor at his home
in Memphis, Tennessee.
He was 42 years old.
Doctors ruled the cause of death a likely heart attack, but that was bogus.
It was drugs.
And here's something else you might not know.
this month, January 2025, Elvis had he live, would have been 90 years old. Wow. Back after this.
