Starting point is 00:00:02 Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. It is Thursday, January 15th, 2026. Here's this happening today in America. Administration in Denmark, internal bleeding, Verizon Outage, and Starlink in Iran. That's all coming up. And Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, our vice president, Secretary of State, met yesterday with top diplomats from Denmark and Greenland.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Quote, the United States needs Greenland for the purpose. of national security. This is our president. It's vital for the golden dome that we're building. NATO should be leading the way for us to get it. The president continued, NATO becomes far more formidable and effective with Greenland in the hands of the United States. Anything less than that is unacceptable. On Air Force One, the president said one way or another, we are going to have Greenland. It's worth noting that in 1917, President Woodrow Wilson, bought the Virgin Islands, now the U.S. Virgin Islands, from Denmark. And it also wasn't for sale at the time. And we wanted to buy Greenland in
Starting point is 00:01:03 1946. So this isn't a random Trump idea. The ICE officer who shot Renee Good suffered internal bleeding to his torso following the incident. The officer is a 10-year veteran with ICE. He was also seriously injured in June when he was dragged by a car
Starting point is 00:01:19 with an illegal alien alien behind the wheel, requiring 33 stitches in his arm. René Good's family has retained the lawyer who represented George Floyd's family. René Good's ex-father law said he doesn't blame the ICE officer. He said, quote, I just think we make bad choices, and that's the problem. There's so much chaos in the whole world today.
Starting point is 00:01:37 We need to turn to God and walk in the spirit of God and let him lead us and guide us. I just wish that, you know, if we're walking in the spirit of God, I don't think she would have been there. Verizon had a tough day yesterday. Outages across the entire country focused in New York, Seattle, Miami, Los Angeles. Verizon is the nation's largest wireless carrier, 146 million customers. A lot of it broke down at around noon eastern yesterday. Verizon said we understand the impact that this has on your day and remain committed to resolving this as quickly as possible.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Worth noting, might be unrelated, but Verizon fired 13,000 employees in November, the largest ever round of layoffs at the company. Protests are escalating across Iran. The people of Tehran have had limited water and electricity and with incredible massive inflation, 50s, 50, 70 percent, they've had no money for a while. But the leaders of Iran have also cut off the internet. But SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet has eliminated their fees to allow people to get around the government shutdown. SpaceX has not officially announced this decision.
Starting point is 00:02:46 People have been smuggling in Starlink units now to share videos of, for instance, bodies piled up at a morgue. Starlink has banned in Iran, but it's believed that there's 50,000 units in the country. I'm Mike Slater from the podcast, Politics by Faith. Bill O'Reilly has your message of the day. Next. Time now for the O'Reilly update, message of the day. On this Thursday, when evaluating Donald Trump's second term, there is really only one fair measure. Is the president improving the country with his policies? Simple. Demeanor doesn't matter because 77 million American voters supported Mr. Trump's quest for White House return. Every single one of those people knew what they were voting for. At this point, the USA is gaining strength economically by most
Starting point is 00:03:38 measures, but high prices remain. President is trying a number of things to bring that down, but nobody knows whether it would work or not. Food and insurance premiums are the big indicator there. Crime is down across the country. Obviously, that's a good thing. Illegal immigration has largely stopped. Now it's a roundup, which is controversial. Border security much stronger. Bad guys like Maduro and the Iranian mullahs have been confronted. Cuba may fall. Putin remains a serious problem. The Chinese seem to want some kind of daytime. In my opinion, that's a pretty strong record in 12 months, not perfect, but trending positive for most Americans. even those who hate Donald Trump.
Starting point is 00:04:33 However, hatred always overrides rational thought. Always. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Name in town if you wish to opine.
Starting point is 00:04:53 Now let's go to the mail. All right, Roddy Hampton, Denton, Texas. As Bill, last night, you seem to say ICE would need to basically stop doing their job because of how violent the protesters are. Your analysis of pre-civil war and how the lack of counterbalance attributed to the civil war. Anarchy is not handled by stopping enforcing the law. Well, I know people hear what they want to hear, Rodney, and you might be in that category, but you're missing the essential point. De-escalation is not walking away. It's enforcing the law in a smart way.
Starting point is 00:05:35 And if you are a Trump supporter, you should know one more dead American at the hands of ICE. Democrats win the midterms. Bob Schindler, Quagg, New York, I respectfully disagree with your assessment that ICE needs to de-escalate. De-escalation is actually the problem. ICE has shown tremendous restraint in the past year. it's not deterred people from illegally obstructing law enforcement.
Starting point is 00:06:03 Okay. I mean, your opinion is your opinion, but I think I've made a pretty compelling argument. Susan Arrow, Livingston, Montana. I've been listening to you for years, Bill. Really appreciate the well-researched common sense reporting. A bit conflicting stories regarding ICE. They're training their legal authority,
Starting point is 00:06:25 which may have future legal implications. Can you look into this? I don't have to look into it. ICE agents are trained like the FBI's train, like every federal law enforcement agent is trained. There's a guideline, a manual, they go to a place, they train. That's it. I don't have any beef with that.
Starting point is 00:06:46 And, you know, there are always people that don't do what they're supposed to do, but I think ICE is fine. In a moment, something you might not know. Now, the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might, not know. 264 years ago today, an American barkeep opened a small restaurant in lower Manhattan. The inn soon became a hive of revolutionary activity and the favorite eatery of George Washington and John Hancock.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Here is the story behind the Francescavern. The original property of 54 Pearl Street, was built in the early 18th century by Etienne de Lancy, a French aristocrat. His children sold the six-bedroom home in 1762 to Samuel Francaise. Sam converted the three-story dwelling into a bar, first calling it the Queen Charlotte, then the Queen's Head Tavern, before finally settling on his own last name. During the American Revolution, the building was a meeting place for patriot groups, including Freemasons and the Sons of Liberty.
Starting point is 00:08:07 After British troops evacuated New York City in 1783, the bar hosted a formal dinner for George Washington, where he bade farewell to his top commanders, said Washington, quote, With a heart full of love and gratitude, I now take leave of you. devoutly wish that your latter days may be as prosperous and happy as your former ones have been glorious and honorable. Incredibly, LaFrancese Tavern stands today in its original form. Every year, thousands of tourists flock to the bar where the Founding Fathers enjoyed roast chicken, oysters, and copious amounts of brand.
Starting point is 00:08:58 Andy. Here's something else you might not know. The tavern played a role in exposing our nation's greatest traitor. In September of 1780, bartender Sam overheard a group of British soldiers toasting American General Benedict Arnold. Well, Sam passed the information to a farmer in New Jersey who related to Washington himself. Secret plot to surrender West Point to the English Army had been exposed. Benedict Arnold, defected to the British two weeks later. Back in a moment. Thank you for listening to the O'Reilly update. I am Bill O'Reilly. No Spin, just facts, and always looking out for you.
