Hamas currently. holds 98 hostages in Gaza, this first phase of an exchange. Hamas will give 33 women, children, elderly, and sick back to Israel. And Israel will return over a thousand Palestinians back to Gaza. There isn't anyone in the world, except for Joe Biden, who thinks that this is a coincidence that these hostages have been held since October 7, 2023. But the plan is to release them on Sunday one day before Donald Trump takes office, who last week and multiple times has said if Hamas does not release these hostages, there will be hell to pay.

He said that everything he'll do as Secretary of State will be filtered through three questions. Does it make America safer? Does it make America stronger? And does it make America more prosperous? Also yesterday was Chris Wright, Secretary of Energy and Russ vote for the Office of Management
Starting point is 00:02:06 and Budget, which is a very important decision when it comes to government spending. Today, Scott Turner for Housing and Urban Development, Lee Zeldon at the EPA, Doug Bergham for Interior, and Scott Besant at the Treasury. The Supreme Court heard oral arguments yesterday for Texas and 18 other states that require age verification for pornography websites, two hours of arguments. Clarence Thomas said we're in an entirely different world. Amy Coney Barrett admitting that it's easier to access pornography than ever before, and John Roberts saying that pornography has exploded and there's been a dramatic change
Starting point is 00:02:39 in how it could be accessed. The justices seemed sympathetic to the state of Texas' argument. A decision will come in June. Many companies have been phasing out the use of red dye three over the last year made from petroleum.
Starting point is 00:03:01 They're using red dye 40. But California has already banned red dye 42. And RFK Jr., the possible incoming Health and Human Services Secretary, has talked about banning red dye 40 as well. Red dye 3 has been banned in cosmetics and topical drugs since 1990. On this Thursday, former Fox News personality, Pete Hegseth was brutalized by some Democratic senators this week. President Trump has nominated Mr. Hagseth for Secretary of Defense, as you know, so the Senate must confirm him.
Starting point is 00:04:52 The vote should be closed. In the interest of fairness, let's lay out some facts. The former Army Major fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, winning the bronze star, so he's a brave guy. Politically, Mr. Hexeth is conservative and has publicly opposed women in combat. That makes him a marked man among progressives, even though he says he has changed his opinion. Pete Hexeth has no criminal record, but apparently Senator Maisie, Hirano from Hawaii believes he's committed some kind of crime beyond personal indiscretions. The veteran did settle a case, as millions of other Americans have, for personal reasons.
Starting point is 00:05:37 There is no crime in protecting yourself and your family by using the legal system. Someone tell Maisie. But that wouldn't do any good because the Democratic Senator doesn't care. Her job, which he relishes, is trying to destroy people with whom she disagrees. The crux of the Heggseth matter is whether he has a skill set to run the largest corporation in the world. That would be the Pentagon. There is scant evidence that he's qualified to do that. However, President Trump wants to give him a chance, and therein lies the key issue.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Should Hegeseth get one? As Jamie Fox might say, place those bets now. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill o'Reilly.com. Bill at bill o'Reilly.com. Name in town if you wish to opine.
Starting point is 00:06:33 And here is the mail. Jacqueline Banuelas, Mission Viejo, California. A bill can you tell us why Democrats instantly hated Pete Haguecith? Because he likes Donald Trump. That's why, Jacqueline. I mean, you know. Kate, on the message board. Bill, your message about tribalism, spot on.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Will the people of California wake up and elect ethical, effective public servants now? No. No. Talked about this with Hannity on the radio today, and we posted it on bill o'Reilly.com. No. If Newsom ran for re-elect, you probably win. Michael, concierge member. Thank you, Michael.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Hope you're enjoying it. As Gavin Newsom ever provided a reason as to why it isn't support sweeping dead wood out of the forest. No. No. He just didn't do it for eight years. Edward, the right doesn't control the most powerful food and drug companies. The left does. Edward is absolutely no evidence what you have just written to me.
Starting point is 00:07:46 The right doesn't control the most powerful food and drug companies. The left does. No evidence of that at all. What I said was there is no outcry from conservatives about terrible food and super high drug prices. You got to go after the corporations. And right doesn't do that. Tom McCarthy, Prescott, Arizona. The Red Cross does good work, but I've never seen an account.
Starting point is 00:08:16 of money received or what the money was used for. Well, you can go and look at their annual report. They have to file one. Just go to the Red Cross website. Their annual report should be there. Check it out. Go to charity navigator.org. They're the watchdog group.
Starting point is 00:08:33 In a moment, something you might not know. This episode is brought to you by San Pellegrino Chau. A new kind of flavor sparkling water. The kind made with real fruit juice. juice, a pinch of Sicilian salt, and the sparkle of the Italian sun. With no added sugar and just 10 or less calories per can, enjoy with love from Italy. By San Pellegrino Chau now. Now the O'Reilly update brings you something you might, not know.
Starting point is 00:09:08 160 years ago today, Union General William Tacompsa Sherman issued special field order number 15. That decree redistributed nearly half a million acres of Confederate land to freed slaves. But the order was ultimately abandoned. Here is the story. During Sherman's infamous march to the sea, the Union Army confiscated huge tracts of land in Georgia. President Abraham Lincoln sent his Secretary of War Edwin Stanton to Savannah. Together they met with 20 black leaders to discuss the property. For Sherman, it was act of necessity as the Union Army swept south. Tens of thousands of black refugees followed. They had nowhere to go. On January 16, 1865, Sherman issued the land proclamation. From Charleston, South Carolina to central Florida, 400,000 acres would be
Starting point is 00:10:12 divided among freed slaves. Each family would be given 40 acres and a mule to work the field. Said Sherman, quote, my aim then was to whip the rebels, humble their pride, follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. We had a call on their slaves to help subdue them. But the program was never put into action. Shortly after the assassination of President Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, the vice president, took over, and he was a racist. And he overturned General Sherman's decree. When the Civil War was over, Johnson returned the land to its original Confederate owners. And here's something else you might not know. Johnson's decision to give the territory back plunged the South into financial misery.
Starting point is 00:11:17 Without slave labor, whites were unable to work the land effectively. Many freed blacks moved to northern cities. A severe financial depression gripped the former Confederacy for decades. For more incredible stories about our chief executives, please check out confronting the presidents, my new book.
