Starting point is 00:00:36 Thank you, Bill. It is Monday, January 27th, 2025. Here's what's happening today in America. Columbia goes first. Ice on the loose, Trump to L.A., and the Super Bowl is set. It's all coming up, and Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, there were two flights full of Colombian national. who were in the United States illegally, being deported back to their home country, Columbia.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And Columbia refused to accept the flight. They don't want their own citizens there. So Trump wrote this while supposedly on the golf course, wrote back in response that because Columbia is not taking back their citizens, he will impose a 25% tariff on all goods coming into the United States. And in one week, it will be raised to 50%. Also a travel ban and an end of visas on all Colombian government officials. allies and supporters, and a visa sanction on all party members, family members, and supporters
Starting point is 00:01:29 of the Colombian government. The Secretary of State, our new Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said President Trump has made it clear that under his administration, America will no longer be lied to nor taken advantage of. It's the responsibility of each nation to take their citizens who are illegally present in the United States in a serious and expeditious manner, a taste of things to come. ICE reports that they arrested 956 illegal aliens yesterday. It's an increase over the previous two days.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Things are ramping up. Almost all of these people are illegals who have committed another serious crime while here illegally. The DEA in Denver says that they did a raid on a makeshift nightclub, and they found dozens of Train de Aragua gang members took away 50 illegal aliens in a bus. And we're flying him home on military aircraft. Tom Homan said the administration is only in the beginning stages of carrying out its mass deportation plan, making public safety threats and national security threats a priority. But as that aperture opens, there'll be more arrests nationwide.
Starting point is 00:02:35 He said, if you're in the country illegally, you've got a problem. Trump visited fire-ravaged Los Angeles, meeting with the mayor, Karen Bass, and congressmen and other local leaders. Residents have been told it'll be 18 months before they're allowed back to their homes. and Trump said that's not acceptable to the mayor's face. Now it's been raining in L.A. So that brings the problems of mudslides and also spreading toxic ash runoff. Great football games this weekend.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Eagles beat Washington 55 to 23 and the bills couldn't do it on their final drive. The Chiefs won 32 to 29. The Chiefs will be looking to be the first NFL team ever to win three championships in a row. The Super Bowl is in two weeks in New Orleans, 630 on Fox. I'm Mike Slater, Bill O'Reilly with your message of the day. Next. Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress. National debt rising, trade war, shaking the markets.

On this one day, I want to talk to you about the kids. They're dopey. I was dopey. You were dopey as a kid. Just remember, and you'll admit that I'm right.
Starting point is 00:04:42 Now they're doperier than ever before because of the cell phone, because of the smartphone, because of the devices. They can't concentrate. Some of them can't even speak the language. They can't listen and absorb information. It's all because most American children are addicted to their cell phone. That is the truth. Nothing parents or grandparents can do about it.
Starting point is 00:05:11 nothing. These kids communicate with each other, that's the paramount thing in their life, friends and acquaintances, using the device. You take the device away, and it is a catastrophe for them. Now, the system is getting involved. New York Governor Hockel, and most of the time I disagree with the governor, but here I'm right behind her. She wants to ban cell phones and schools from bell to bell. Morning, when the bell rings to start, 2.30 whenever it is when the bell rings to end. That should be law everywhere. You don't allow students to carry cell phones into the classroom and divert their attention because they have having a very hard time paying attention anyway. And if they get addicted to the phone, they're
Starting point is 00:06:10 futures are going to be impacted negatively. I hope we all understand. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Name in town, if you wish to opine. Now let's go to the mail. Tom Adair, San Point, Idaho, since the Lake and Riley Act looks like it'll become law with the chances of a case law being revisited. I'm working on it. Not easy. To get people's attention these days? But we're working it. Elizabeth, two of Virginia's flagship universities, University of Virginia, Virginia Tech,
Starting point is 00:06:48 at hundreds of DEI personnel, who is paying for those salaries. You were. If you live in a Commonwealth, you're paying for them. And they still exist because the president can't knock out DEI in state universities. Dave Turner conquered North Carolina.
Starting point is 00:07:06 I don't agree with you all the time, Mr. O, but most of the time. Appreciate how, in a political system like ours, you hold both sides accountable. That's what we do. Paul Bergeo, Manteca, California. I began watching Nostman News past election cycle. Boy, you're late to the table, but that's okay, Paul. And realize what I have been missing for a long time.
Starting point is 00:07:28 Just finished confronting the presidents and the United States of Trump. Now I'm on to killing the rising sun. All right. Now you're in. Bruce Rhodes, Tampa, Florida. I always love when you have Bernie Goldberg. on your program, oh, he's going to really be happy to hear that. He voiced my thoughts exactly when he talked about the president's speech, the inauguration address. Trump should have
Starting point is 00:07:50 been more respectful of the outgoing president. Opinions divided on this. Kevin, on the message board, it was unprofessional and rude to the office of the presidency. President Trump should have stated his vision and goals and left discussing Biden's failures to another time. All right, so that's one side. Here's the other side. William, I agree that all respect has been lost in politics. I cannot blame President Trump, however, for doing what he did, considering what he has been put through. Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know. 81 years ago today, one of the most brutal battles in human history ended. After 900 days, the Soviet. forces liberated their own city from Nazi Germany. Here is a story behind the siege of Leningrad. The fight began in September 1941. The people of Leningrad, formerly known as St. Petersburg,
Starting point is 00:09:23 before the Communist Revolution, successfully repel the Germans, but then the Vermak, the Nazi army, encircled the city. As a result, three million Russians were cut off from support. and reinforcements. The Third Reich bombarded the town with artillery every night. Within 12 months, 700,000 civilians had starved to death. The 500,000 were killed in combat. The misery lasted nearly three years. Stalin's forces launched a counteroffensive in the winter of 1944. On January 27th, the communists broke the German lines. The Nazis retreated west toward their homeland, never to attack Leningrad again. The victory emboldened the Soviet population and demoralized Germany.
Starting point is 00:10:19 After the defeat at Stalingrad one year earlier, it was the second time Adolf Hitler had to publicly acknowledge losing a major battle to the Soviets. In total, a siege of Leningrad claimed the lives of 200,000 German soldiers one million Soviet troops and one million Russian civilians. Can you believe the numbers there? And here's something else you might not know. The siege of Leningrad had a profound effect on the current leader of Russia, Vladimir Putin. Both of Bad Vlad's parents participated in the battle.
Starting point is 00:11:02 His mother worked in a munitions factory. Putin's father was part of a sabotage and destruction human. carrying out covert missions behind enemy lines. Putin's older brother Victor died during the conflict from malnutrition. Born eight years after the battle, young Vlad spent his early life walking in the ruins of Leningrad, something he carried with him for the rest of his life.
