Starting point is 00:00:37 Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. It is Thursday, January 30th, 2025. Here's what's happening today in America. Illiterate. First Bill signed. RFK Jr. hearing and the semi-Quincennial. It's all coming up, and Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, our kids are more illiterate than ever. The National Assessment for Educational Progress for 8th graders was released.
Starting point is 00:01:01 70% of 8th graders are below proficient in reading. 72% are below proficient in math. These are all-time lows. Fourth graders scored even worse. And the standards are getting lower. And still, fewer kids can meet them than ever before. And in our cities, it's even worse. In Detroit, only 6% of 8th graders can read.
Starting point is 00:01:21 Trump yesterday signed an executive order called expanding educational freedom and opportunities for families. He called for the Secretary of Education to issue guidance on how the states can use federal money to support K-12 school choice initiatives. Trump signed his very first bill, the Laken Riley Act. He said today's signing, bringing us one step closer to eradicating the scourge of migrant crime in our communities once and for all. Lakin's mom was there for the signing standing behind the president.
Starting point is 00:01:50 She later said Trump said he would secure our borders and that he would never forget about Lakin, and he's a man of his word. Trump also signed an executive order directing the Department of Defense and Homeland Security to prepare Guantanamo Bay to hold 30,000 high-priority criminal aliens who are unlawfully present in the United States. RFK Jr. has another hearing today to become Health and Human Services Secretary. Worth noting that many of the Democrats who criticized him yesterday, including Bernie Sanders, Do you support these onesies?
Starting point is 00:02:23 Comes from Democrats who have gotten a lot of money from the health care industry. Senator Weiland got $2 million over the last five years. Pogahannis, Elizabeth Warren, received $5 million during her presidential primary run. RFK Jr. said we have the highest chronic disease burden of any country in the world. This is an existential threat economically to our military, to our health, to our sense of well-being, and it's a priority for President Trump. In other cabinet news, Lee Zeldin was confirmed. by the Senate to be the next head of the EPA.
Starting point is 00:02:53 Another executive order, one you'd think we could all get behind. Fourth of July, 2026 is our 250th anniversary. The 200th anniversary, there was a commission set up 10 years before to try to figure out how we could best celebrate. We're less than two years away from this one. Trump created Task Force 250. It also creates the National Garden of American Heroes, a garden with statues of 250 American heroes.
Starting point is 00:03:18 There's been talk of putting this by Mount Rushmore. I'm Mike Slater from Politics by Faith. Bill O'Reilly with your message of the day. Next. Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress. National debt rising, trade war, shaking the markets. And meanwhile, China is dumping the dollar and stockpiling gold. That's why I protected my savings with physical gold and silver.

Starting point is 00:04:22 Again, that's 866, 326-5576, or text bill to 998899. Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day. On this Thursday, somewhat quietly the Trump administration has redefined the culpability of undocumented migrants. Now, all of them are being described as lawbreakers. That designation will drive the American left, including most of the media, absolutely nuts. And President Trump enjoys doing that.
Starting point is 00:04:59 But there is a practical reason why this is happening. With perhaps as many as 14 million folks without proper credentials, the president understands federal agencies cannot adjudicate every personal circumstance. For example, if a migrant felon, a hardcore criminal, is married to someone with a clean record, what happens to the spouse when the criminal is deported? Under the new policy, they both go. And so do the kids, unless a lawyer steps in, if the children are born, in the end of the United States, they have a right to stay, but if their parents leave, both of them, they should go
Starting point is 00:05:44 with the parents. But that's got to be voluntary. Now, crossing into the USA illegally remains a civil offense on the books, like a traffic beef. I expect Congress is going to change that, as most other countries in the world apply criminal penalties to illegal entry. Try crossing into Mexico without a proper ID. Jail awaits and not a nice jail. Congress needs to take action. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Name in town if you wish to opine. Now let's go to the mail. Penny is on the message board. Penny is a concierge or premium member to Bill O'Reilly.com. She gets to play on the board. It's a lot of fun. The open boarder was a policy done a purpose.
Starting point is 00:06:37 That is why Biden didn't try to fix it. I guess, wouldn't it be instructive to have Biden explain it some day, some way? Dan, concierge member, something that isn't getting much press is the extremely long process it takes for someone to legally come to this country. My son-in-law has been waiting two years. What's going on with that? It's always been complicated. This is why Congress needs to pass a fast-track immigration law.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Simplify it. I agree. We need. The foreign labor is here, foreign workers, skilled workers. The Congress just sits there and does nothing. Susan, please explain, real or feign compassion of leftists crying over criminal immigrants being deported. They all say they want criminal aliens to be deported, but they don't want regular law-abiding aliens to be deported. That's what you get.
Starting point is 00:07:33 but there's no outcry on the left for the open border was there can you send me the name of one democrat that objected to the open border give me one now it doesn't matter but for the four years under bite barry duffy Dublin Ireland we're big in Ireland hey bill I may sound naive but why would Americans in the news agencies want to damage the USA with fake news and not protect its own people because they don't see it as fake news very. These are fanatics, many of them, fanatics, hate Trump, far-left people. They think they're doing noble work.
Starting point is 00:08:21 And you got them too in Ireland, you know, in a moment, something you might not know. This episode is brought to you by San Pellegrino Chau. A new kind of flavor of sparkling water, the kind made with real fruit juice, a pinch of Sicilian salt, and the sparkle of the Italian sun. With no added sugar and just 10 or less calories per can, enjoy. With love from Italy. By San Pellegrino Chau now. Now the O'Reilly update brings you something you might, not know. Fifty-six years ago today, the Beatles delivered their final. live performance on a rooftop in central London. The unannounced gig caused chaos on the streets below and was eventually broken up by the cops. Here is the story. In 1966, the Beatles sparked a global uproar after John Lennon declared, quote, we are more popular than Jesus, unquote. Well, a fallout from
Starting point is 00:09:29 Lenin's remarks was so bad that the band stopped touring. Three years later, the Fab Four were working on a new record at Apple Studios in London. Paul McCarty believed a surprise show would generate interest in the new album. A few venues were considered, Royal Albert Hall, Camden Gardens, even Parliament. But the Beatles settled on the studio's fifth-story rooftop patio. Preparing was a nightmare. Electrical wires ran through apartment windows, high winds made hearing the amplifiers near impossible, frigid temperatures detuned the instruments. Nevertheless, at noon on January 30th, 1969, the four musicians and keyboard player Billy Preston emerged from a rickety staircase. They took their positions and began to play.
Starting point is 00:10:29 One, two, three, four. Hundreds of Londoners watched that show from their windows or on the street below. Traffic came to a standstill. two minutes later, the Bobbies breached the rooftop. They turned off the amps, seized microphones, threatened to arrest everyone involved. The controversy became a global sensation. The rooftop performance marked the beginning of the end for the Beatles. They released one more record before breaking up in 1970. For more fascinating stories about the life and struggles of John
