wednesday january eighth twenty twenty five here's what's happening today in america first bill passed carter in state second presser and zuck changing his ways it's all coming up then bill's going to be with your message of the day but first congress the house has passed the first bill of the session the laken Riley Act passed 264 to 159. That means 48 Democrats voted yes on the bill. Bill, of course, named after Lincoln Riley, a nursing student who was murdered by an illegal alien from Venezuela while she was jogging on the University of Georgia's campus. He was sentenced to life in prison for the murder. The act mandates that Homeland Security detain illegal immigrants who have been charged with certain crimes. And also, part of the bill allows state attorney generals to sue Homeland Security

if they think the feds are not properly enforcing illegal immigration laws. The Senate might take up the law this week. Unfortunately, Republicans have 53 seats. Federman said he'll vote yes, but they need 60 to pass. Jimmy Carter is lying in state at the capital, Kamala Harris, Mike Johnson, and John Thune spoke at his funeral. His body will remain at the Capitol until Thursday morning, and a military honor guard will keep watch the entire time.

Donald Trump gave his second press conference since being elected president and Mar-a-Lago yesterday. He spoke of the hostages still held by Hamas. He said, if the hostages are not back by the time I get into office, all hell will break out in the Middle East. He was asked whether he would rule out using military or economic coercion to take back the Panama Canal and take over Greenland. Would he rule it out? Trump said, no, I will not rule it out. and he also said he is going to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. He said it has a beautiful ring that covers a lot of territory, the Gulf of America.

What a beautiful name, and it's appropriate. Trump also said he'll be making major January 6th pardons. Mark Zuckerberg from Meta, Facebook and Instagram, said that they are firing all the fact checkers that they've hired since the 2016 election, and they are replacing them with the community notes fact-checking system like has been going on over at X. Apparently there are 40,000 fact-checkers. That's almost the entire population of Greenland, by the way. And he said they've become too politically biased and have destroyed more trust than they've created. He also gave a shout-out to Trump. He said the recent elections also feel like a cultural tipping point towards once again

prioritizing speech. I produced a show, and the rest is history, as they say. Uncle Ted was frequently inebriated, but it didn't really matter.

My one-liners about Dracula's daughter catapulted me to fame and fortune. She was sent. She was the emissary. But if her power was intact, she would be, okay, the minority leader in the House.

In King George's way was General Andrew Jackson. The commander was previously taken prisoner during the Revolutionary War, said old Hickory, quote, I owe Britain a debt of vengeance. When our forces meet, I shall pay that debt. In early 1815, the Royal Navy approached the coast of Louisiana. Jackson immediately declared martial law. He ordered every able-bodied man to defend the city of New Orleans. He rallied a rough crew of 8,000 regulars from.

tiersmen freed slaves, French aristocrats, and Indians. Jackson also accepted the help of Jean Lafitte, a notorious pirate who terrorized English sailors in the Gulf of Mexico. On January 8, 1815, the Motley crew clashed with 8,000 English regulars five miles south of New Orleans. For the next 10 days, Jackson's poorly equipped army defended the swamps. He defeated the British, and the Royal Navy had to return to Europe. That victory made Old Hickory a national hero. It was elected the nation's seventh president in 1828.
