Bill O'Reilly here.
You are listening to the O'Reilly update.
Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater.
Thank you, Bill.
It is Monday, July 10th, 2020.
Here's what's happening today in America.
The cocaine hearing.
Janet in China, buoys in the Rio Grande,
and will Ben and Jerry be men of their word?
That's all coming up.
Then Bill will be here with your message of the day.
But first, the House Oversight Committee Chairman,
James Comer from Kentucky sent a letter to the Secret Service Director requesting a briefing on the details surrounding the discovery of cocaine in the White House.
Comer said the presence of illegal drugs in the White House is unacceptable and a shameful moment in the White House's history.
According to the Secret Service, so far, the plastic baggie was found in a cubby at an entrance for staffers and official visitors,
which leads to a lower level of the West Wing that's near the Situation Room.
Staffers can bring personal guests through the entrance after the guests undergo a background check ahead of time
and pass through a security checkpoint manned by the Secret Service.
The Secret Service and the FBI are reviewing surveillance tapes and visitor logs.
You think it wouldn't be that difficult.
Our Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, who used to be the head of the Federal Reserve,
went to China, met for 10 hours with Chinese officials, met with the top four Chinese officials under President Xi.
She later said that U.S. and China were on a steadier footing,
despite, quote, significant disagreements.
Quote, we believe that the world is big enough for both of our countries to thrive.
I don't think China thinks that.
Now, if you don't think that this meeting will make any meaningful difference,
don't worry, John Kerry, the special presidential envoy for climate change,
will visit China to restart global warming negotiations next week.
Texas has begun installing water barriers in the Rio Grande River
to stop illegal immigrants from swimming across.
They're these big four-foot-wide orange buoys, and if you try to grab one, when you're in the water, they spin and you can't grab on.
This is part of Texas's Operation Lone Star, as in they have to do it alone with no help from the federal government.
And in woke company news, Ben and Jerry's on the 4th of July, they wrote on Twitter this 4th of July, it's high time we recognize that the U.S. exists on stolen indigenous land and
commit to returning it well the chief of the nalhegan band of the kusuk abanaki nation a confederacy
of the algonquin tribes that formed in vermont in the 1600s said okay i'd love the chat
no word yet from ben and jerry on if they'll put their money where their mouth is i'm mike slater
bill o'reilly will be here with your message of the day next

Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day.
On this Monday, Joe Biden recently did an interview with MSNBC, and I put it this way, that's like doing an interview with your mind.
because MSNBC loves the Biden administration and is in business simply to promote
progressive causes, right? I think that's true. The interviewer was Nicole Wallace, former
Republican, worked for Bush the Younger, and now Ms. Wallace is a dedicated progressive because
she is paid very well by NBC News. And let's give her the assumption that her
worldview has changed and people are entitled to do that. Anyway, in the interview with President
Biden, Ms. Wallace did not ask one question about Hunter Biden. Nothing. It was what they say
is a cup cake interview. It was nothing. Now, if you know the history of the so-called
legacy television media, ABC, CBS, NBC, that never could have possibly happened, even 20 years
ago. NBC News would have never done that. We're talking John Chancellor, Huntley Brinkley,
all those guys. But now NBC News is in business to promote progressive causes. It's shocking to
me. So, Joe Biden went there and had a great time. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing
it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Name in town if you
wish to opine. Now let's go to the mail. William began on Stratford, Connecticut. On July 4th,
I celebrated 31 years of sobriety. I agree 100% with you, O'Reilly about the government
dereliction duty concerning coddling of drug addicts.
and the CERN action needed to deal with them.
Thank God to Alcohol Economist.
I am sober today.
I'm glad you are.
Toby Ewing, Spring, Texas, long-time premium error,
upgraded to concierge.
You meant to leave in New York.
If there was a wealth tax, where would you go?
Bermuda or Ireland.
But there's not going to be a wealth tax.
Supreme Court's going to knock it out in December.
Richard Dick, Murphy, North Carolina.
And your message today, you spoke of media icons.
I want to let you know, you are my Walter,
Cronkite. Well, that's very nice, Richard. But, you know, Cronkite was a little corporate for me.
I'm not a corporate guy. I'm so happy. I don't have to work for corporations ever again.
Cronkite tried his hardest to be fair. He's a liberal man. But he was a corporate guy. I'm not.

Forbes magazine recently ranked
the highest paid entertainers in America.
Top of the list,
a 33-year-old singer
from rural Pennsylvania. Here is the story of Taylor Swift. She grew up on her family's Christmas
tree farm. She began taking guitar and vocal lessons at the age of nine. As a young teenager,
Ms. Swift modeled for clothing outlets like Abercrombie and Fitch. Despite her northern roots,
Taylor's biggest influence was Southern music. She began appearing at country festivals,
cafes, and county fares. To help Taylor Swift break into the music business, the family moved from
Pennsylvania to Nashville to Tennessee. There, she signed a record deal in 2005 and released her
debut album 10 months later. The first single spent 300 weeks on the charts. She was just 17 years old.
Ms. Swift then released her second record in 2008 and became one of the most successful touring acts
of the year. Since then, the singer has racked up 10 hit albums, appeared in eight movies,
12 TV shows, and won 11 Grammys, including Record of the Year. Ms. Swift is now so
successful, she holds 58 Guinness World Records, including most streams online, most simultaneous
albums on the billboard chart and most search name on the internet.
Today, Taylor's personal empire is worth at least $600 million.
A recent tour was the highest grossing series of concerts in American history.
Taylor Swift's real estate portfolio includes properties in Rhode Island, California,
Tennessee and New York City. Her Manhattan townhouse is valued at 45 million bucks. She currently has
endorsement deals from Coca-Cola, AT&T, Target Sony Music. And here's something else you might not know.
Ms. Swift's parents knew she would be a star before she was born. She is named after guitarist
and singer James Taylor. And you can see both tellers on tour this summer. Back after this.
