Bill O'Reilly here. It is Friday, July 12, 2019. You are listening to the O'Reilly update, and here's what's happening across our nation. President Trump continuing to benefit from a wave of positive economic news and low unemployment. According to a new ABC News, Washington Post poll, 44% of Americans now approve of the job the president is doing a five-point jump-up since April, his highest ratings since taking office in 2017. according to the ABC poll. While that survey shows an increase in support for the president, it also shows that Americans are growing increasingly tired of the impeachment issue. Just 37% of Americans now support impeachment against President Trump, while 59% oppose it, including a clear majority of independence. That's a 13-point increase in opposition since August of last year. Despite the mounting opposition to impeachment, some on the left, Jus won't give it up. Many in the Democratic caucus continue to agitate for impeachment proceedings, much to the chagrin of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who doesn't want that?

This week, the House Judiciary Committee, led by New York Congressman Jerry Nadler, voted to authorize subpoenas for 12 former Special Counsel Robert Mueller witnesses, including Jared Kushner, former Attorney General Sessions, Deputy A.G. Rod Rosenstein, and Trump's former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski. We're also expecting to hear from Robert Mueller himself next week as he testifies before two House committees. This despite the fact that he's made clear, his testimony will not stray from his 450-page report that he put out in April. As usual, the Democratic candidates, at least most of them, continue to be led around by the far left. Nearly every presidential hopeful is called for the impeachment of President Trump, with the notable exception of Joe Biden, who calls impeachment a, quote, gigantic destruction.

The latest candidate to join the field, billionaire activist Tom Steyer, is best known for committing $40 million to try to get Trump impeached, an effort that has clearly failed, considering the latest. poll numbers. Democrats might well be smart to listen to Speaker Pelosi. Americans don't want impeachment. That's obvious. But the message is being rejected by some far-left people who seem more interested in pleasing radical base and Twitter followers than they are in the Democrats winning the upcoming election. German workers in Munich pay 8% of their income in local taxes, then Berlin comes in for its piece, 12% health tax for government-run medical care, 19% value-added tax, VAT, on just about everything you buy, and then on top of that, an income tax that ranges from 14 to

45% of your gross wages. Added up, and German workers cannot save significant money or improve themselves much economically. The result is that almost every German worker is the same materially. The folks accept the plan because it offers security. After you pay the tax, medical care is free. Pensions guaranteed. Housing modest and subsidies will be provided if you can or won't work. The addicted are supported, but barely.

Not much homelessness in Germany. So that's the vision of the present-day Democratic Party in America, from C to Shining C will all be similar, dependent on Washington for medical care and retirement, happy to be secure with what we are allowed to keep after the feds decide how much to take from us. On paper, inequality will be banished. That's the plan. And it does not include gold stars for achievement. Will it happen? Will it prevail? Maybe. And that's the message. Now the O'Reilly update brings you something you might not know. For celebrity success can mean big paydays, awards, accolades, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but a mugshot on the wall of the county sheriff's office? Not usually part of the plan. Charges are eventually dropped, but the mugshot lives on. Actor Matthew McConaughey spent a night in jail after police responded to a disturbance at his home. What they found was McConaughey playing bongos dancing around completely naked. When asked about his night in jail, McConaughey said, quote, I don't want to rent a place there, but it was a nice day for a night. In 1978, a nervous 25-year-old was arrested while attempting to smuggle a pound of cocaine through the Kalamazoo, Michigan International Airport. The young man was convicted of drug trafficking and was

sentenced to more than two years in a federal prison. Today, you know him best as the voice of Buzz Lightyear in Pixar's Toy Story series, comedian Tim Allen. Man in Black, Johnny Cash, known for his live performances at prisons across America, was no stranger to run-ins with the law himself. Cash was arrested seven times over the course of his career, including spending one night in jail for picking flowers. He later wrote a song about it entitled Starkville City Jail. In April of 1988, a teenager approached a Vietnamese immigrant on the streets of Boston and beat him up. The teen was charged with attempted murder. After a 45-day stint in prison, young man turned to music and eventually acting, becoming one of the nation's highest paid movie stars.
