Starting point is 00:00:00 Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. It is Monday, July 14th, 2025. Here's this happening today in America. One year later, church shooting, getting rid of Jerome and Superman weekend results. That's all coming up. And Bill's going to be here with your message of the day before. First, yesterday was the one-year anniversary of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump in Buffalo. Pennsylvania. Trump, of course, was shot in the year by a 20-year-old who fired eight rounds from an AR-15 from the roof of a nearby building, a very nearby building. Four seconds after he began shooting, a member of the Butler County Emergency Service unit shot at him, hit his rifle, preventing him from firing more shots. Twelve seconds later, he was shot and killed by the counter-sniper team of the U.S. Secret Service. Of course, you remember, Trump got back up and yelled to the crowd,
Starting point is 00:00:57 fight, fight, fight, fight. This was just two days before the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin. What a surreal time one year ago yesterday. Trump said to Lara Trump this weekend that there were a lot of mistakes made that day, but he was satisfied with the official answers as to what happened and that it wasn't a part of a larger plot. Quote, they had a bad day. They had a rough day.
Starting point is 00:01:23 Two women were shot and killed at a church in Kentucky. The murderer shot a Kentucky state police trooper, then fled to the church, where he shot four more people before police were able to kill him. The two women who were killed were 72 and 36 years old. After shooting the trooper, he carjacked a vehicle and headed over to the church. Russ Vote, the head of the Office of Management of Budget, wrote a letter implying that Jerome Powell, the chairman of the Federal Reserve, implying that Powell made false statements to Congress about the $2.5 billion. billion-dollar renovation of three office buildings overlooking the National Mall in D.C. Or failed to comply with permitting rules around the capital area construction. Russ Fote said the cost overruns were horrifying.
Starting point is 00:02:08 James Blair, who is a White House deputy chief of staff, said if it is found out that Chairman Powell did lie to Congress, I would think the Board of Governors and the American people and the U.S. Senate would have severe concerns about that. Worth noting the chairman of the Fed can't be removed from office unless it's for cause. His term officially ends, May 15th, 20206. James Gunn's Superman opened with $122 million in America. It's good news for DC. Their three most recent movies were total flops.
Starting point is 00:02:37 Overseas not as good in 78 international markets, only $95 million in China. It only grossed $6.6 million. Last week, the director claimed that Superman was an immigrant. I mean, he came here as a baby to Kansas, the heartland of America to be raised with deep, profound American values. Superman's a far cry from Zoron Memdani. I'm Mike Slater from politics by Faith Bill O'Reilly has your message to the day.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Next. Hey, I'm Caitlin Becker, the host of the New York Postcast, and I've got exactly what you need to start your weekdays. Every morning, I'll bring you the stories that matter, plus the news people actually talk about, the juicy details in the world's politics, business, pop culture, and everything in between. It's what you want from the New York Post
Starting point is 00:03:22 wrapped up in one snappy show. Ask your smart speaker to play the NY Postcast podcast. Listen and subscribe on Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day. On this Monday, keep your eye on Big Bad Vlad Putin. So my book Confronting Evil comes out September 9th. You can pre-order it, of course, Bill O'Reilly.com, Amazon, wherever. Putin is on the cover, along with the Ayatollah Khomeini, Maggi Tung, and Adolf Hitler.
Starting point is 00:04:01 And then inside, there are eight other heinous individuals that I write about. Now, why did Putin make the cover? Well, he is a psychopath. He will kill millions of people for no reason. Yes, the others did too. But this is a modern-day situation with Putin. Now, President Trump has to deal with him directly. The president believed he could persuade Putin to stop the Ukrainian invasion.
Starting point is 00:04:32 That's what he believed. He did deal with Putin effectively in his first term, Trump did, but his optimism about bad Vlad has not come true. And that is a big frustration for President Trump, believe me. So what's going to happen now? I don't know. I do believe that banking sanctions should be put on the Russians, that you can strangle their economy totally by telling worldwide banks, you are not to do business with Moscow. And if you do, then we will crush you, we being the EU and the United States.
Starting point is 00:05:15 You got to handle Putin. He's out of control. He's killing too many people. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill o'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill o'Reilly.com.
Starting point is 00:05:30 Name in town if you wish to opine. Now let's go to the mail. A Stephen concierge member, which means Stephen has direct access to me and my crew. And we will help Stephen, should anything happen to him. I don't think the average American cares about Biden's dementia. Most people just want to live. Sure, it affects their pocketbook, but do they care if the president is incapable of functioning?
Starting point is 00:05:56 Probably not. I disagree. I think most people want a president who knows what is happening. I. Hudson. Ian Hudson. Memphis, Tennessee. When will the new tax incentives and cuts take effect? Now, 2025.
Starting point is 00:06:14 When you file next April, all it's in place right now. right now. Chris Preston, Mount Prospect, Illinois. I enjoy reading all your books, Bill, and I find them very informative. I recently received an open letter from the executive director of a local homeless shelter that I volunteered with in the past, and he says that Trump's big, beautiful bill will drive wages down and the cost of rent up. Okay, that's what he says. Is it true? No. Drive wages down? Why? So, number one, I applaud you for volunteering at a homeless shelter. Number two, this guy's a left winger. Now, if that matters to you, then you've got to find
Starting point is 00:07:00 another place to volunteer. If it doesn't, keep doing what you're doing. Lori, concierge member, Comey and Brennan, being called in to testify. I wonder what they know about the Epstein operation. Number one, they're not being called to testify. They're under investigation. Comey and Brennan. They're not called. to testify anywhere. They will have to answer some questions from the FBI, but that will be private. Epstein Operation,
Starting point is 00:07:28 Comey, yeah, he should know something about it. Brennan, no. In a moment, something you might not know. Hey, it's Sean Spicer from the Sean Spicer Show podcast, reminding you to tune into my show every day to get your daily dose inside the world of politics. President Trump and his team are shaking up Washington like never before,
Starting point is 00:07:51 and we're here to cover it from all sides, especially on the topics the mainstream media won't. So if you're a political junkie on a late lunch or getting ready for the drive home, new episodes of the Sean Spicer Show podcast drop at 2 p.m. East Coast every day. Make sure you tune in. You can find us at Apple Podcast, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcast. Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know. 227 years ago today, one of the most egregious breaches of the U.S. Constitution became federal law. The legislation placed severe restrictions on both free speech and civil liberties.
Starting point is 00:08:31 Here is the story behind the Sedition Act. On July 14, 1798, Congress passed a series of laws to, quote, protect the national interests of sovereign-born citizens. The legislation specifically targeted new immigrants to the United States. The period of residency required before foreigners could apply for citizenship was extended from five to 14 years. The president gained the authority to detain and deport anyone deemed undesirable, no due process. In direct violation of the First Amendment, the act also permitted the criminal prosecution of person who criticized the President of the United States, said one supporter of the Sedition Bill, quote, Liberty of the press is calculated to destroy all confidence between
Starting point is 00:09:28 man and man. Fourteen members of the press and politicians were ultimately prosecuted, some in prison under the Sedition Act. Both Thomas Jefferson and James Madison despise the legislation. President John Adams threatened to resign if the law was not revoked. Well, it was. The Citizen Act eventually expired on March 3rd, 1801. And here's something else you might not know.
Starting point is 00:10:02 Just one piece of legislation from the original act remains on the books. It was recently invoked by President Trump. On March 15, 2025, Trump used a professional. vision called the Alien Enemies Act to justify the deportation of international gang members who committed violent crimes. According to the president, the massive influx of undocumented people constitutes an invasion of our homeland. The Supreme Court ruled against Trump in May. In a 72 decision, the justices said illegal immigrants, even foreign gang members, are entitled to due process in the United States. Back after this.
Starting point is 00:10:53 Power, politics, and the people behind the headlines. I'm Miranda Devine, New York Post columnist, and the host of the brand new podcast, Podforce One.
