Fading Democratic presidential candidate, Beto O'Rourke speaks with migrants in Mexico. Fading Democratic presidential hopeful and former media darling, Beto O'Rourke, speaking with refugees in Mexico,

touring a migrant center in Juarez just across the border from El Paso. The failed Senate candidates spoke of asylum seekers for 15 minutes, vowing to expedite the immigration process for hundreds of thousands hoping to enter the United States. The Department of Homeland Security issued a dire warning Monday saying, quote, domestic terror groups could be plotting attacks against 4th of July celebrations nationwide. In fact, the FBI posted the bulletin on their official website saying radicals could use the holidays to target civilians at parades or festivities across the USA.

Over to the Middle East, where Pentagon officials confirmed Monday that U.S. airstrikes targeting al-Qaeda training facilities in Syria killed at least eight terrorists who were actively planning attacks against American civilians. The operation comes just days after counterterror groups confirmed an ongoing ISIS plot to smuggle foreign fighters into the U.S. through our southern border. And how about this? A new poll reveals what most of us knew all long, including this former mayor. Washington, D.C. and San Francisco are officially the worst-run cities in the United States. What's ironic about this is that the former mayor is now governor of California. The survey factors in traffic, corruption, crime, and more obstacles to local residents' day-to-day lives. The best-run city in the U.S.? Nampa, Idaho, population, 90,000.

Now the O'Reilly Update, a message of the day. California is in trouble. The nation's largest state is a beautiful place. I think I visited every county in California. You have magnificent coastline. you have mountains, you have a very nice climate. There are 37 million citizens in the state of California by far the largest state we have in the Union. Fifty-five electoral votes, so California is very powerful. It is the world's fifth largest economy behind the USA,

China, Japan, Germany, and ahead of the UK. Median housing price in California, 544,000. thousand dollars. Lowest median housing in the United States, Ohio, 169,000. Now, the rise of problems in California has to do with the way the state is being governed. As you know, about 33% of people living in California are on welfare. It has the highest homeless population in the USA estimated to be 135,000 people living on the streets. That's 22% of the entire U.S. homeless population. 27% of Californians were not born in the USA. The state is the highest number of billionaires, but the middle class is disappearing because of housing costs, taxes, crime, and illegal immigration. Did you know that San Francisco is the highest property crime rate for any

major U.S. city? And now the specter of disease in Los Angeles and San Francisco is rising. Some LAPD officers will not even go into the homeless camps because typhus has broken out there. 45% of Californians either live below or at the poverty line. Forty-five percent. The state government does have a surplus because of its high tax rate, but that money is not not being used to correct the problems. Therefore, many professionals in California are leaving, going to tax-friendly states like Nevada and Texas. So the infrastructure in California is wobbling to say the least. A case can be made that the far-left leadership in Sacramento is leading the state right down the drain. California is a one-party state, as Republicans have very little

influence there. All in all, California is a magnificent place. If you haven't visited, you must go. But it is very troubled, and it may be the wave of the future. State government has a responsibility to all its citizens, not just a selected few. You cannot tax and tax and tax and expect hardworking wage earners to live in your state. That's that's not going to happen. New York State, also losing people to Florida, North Carolina, and other lower tax rate states. Now, the solution to California's massive problems is discipline, financial discipline, and basically setting rules. You cannot live on the street, taking heroin every day, and ruining the city landscape. You cannot do that. If you can't find

single unifying theme to their message, it would be this. Hey, vote for me. I'll give you free stuff. You want free health care? It's yours. Free college. You got it. Free cash through reparations. Why not? If you're an American voter, the Democrats have something for you, absolutely free of charge. At least that's what they want you to think. Anyone with even a basic understanding of economics knows nothing is free. Take health care. Americans spent $3.5 trillion on health care in just 2017 or close to $11,000 per person.

Those costs don't disappear once someone in Washington declares that something is free. Doctors and nurses need to be paid. Hospitals need to be staffed around the clock. Medicine needs to be developed, tested, and manufactured. Guess what? That all costs money. American colleges and universities are no different. Are professors and administrators going to forego their salaries? Of course not. But it's more than just a matter of dollars and cents. In addition to the taxes, that would be required to fund these so-called free programs, there are other ways in which Americans will pay that we don't initially see, will pay in freedom. Choice is usually the first casualty when the government takes over an industry. You need only look at the American public school system to see where hospitals and universities would be headed if the Democratic presidential candidates had their way. Parents sending their children to public schools have no choice as to what school they attend. Many students, both rich and poor, are forced to attend failing schools for no other reason than the fact that they live in the wrong zip code.
