Starting point is 00:00:00 Bill O'Reilly here. Tuesday, July 23rd, 2019. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Here's what's happening today in America. Mistrust of the federal government and national media on the rise in the USA. President Trump and congressional leaders strike a deal on spending. Wealthy New Yorkers ditch the state's high taxes for southern hospitality. The United Kingdom picks its next prime minister. Also coming up my message of the day on the Mueller testimony tomorrow. But first, mistrust on the rise in America, according to a new Pew Research poll, a significant majority of Americans do not trust both the mainstream media and political leaders. Sixty-nine percent believe the federal government intentionally hides facts from the public.
Starting point is 00:00:57 61% say the media withholds important stories. Two-thirds of Americans believe it is nearly impossible at this point to tell the difference between real news and fake news. Now, those are astounding numbers that indicate massive corruption in politics and the media. President Trump and congressional leaders reach a new budget agreement that expands funding for the Pentagon, domestic programs, and raises a nation's spending limit beyond the 2020 election. The $320 billion deal negotiated by Speaker of the House Pelosi and Secretary of the Treasury, Steve Mnuchin, needs approval from Senate Republicans to become law. It will
Starting point is 00:01:50 likely secure that approval raising America's debt. Wealthy, New York. Wealthy, New York, state residents ditching the state's massive tax burden for southern Florida, relocating to Fort Lauderdale and Miami, among other places. Economists say high-income earners can expect to save between $20,000 and $120,000 a year on income and property taxes. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 63,000 New Yorkers have moved to Florida in the past 12 months. This means far less tax revenue for Albany. Now, to the U.K. where the next British Prime Minister will be former mayor of London, Boris Johnson. The vocal Brexit supporter will replace Theresa May, who announced her resignation earlier this year after repeatedly failing to secure a deal to get Great Britain out of the EU.
Starting point is 00:02:53 Coming up the message of the day on the Mueller testimony tomorrow. tomorrow. Right back with it. Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day. Special prosecutor Robert Mueller testifying tomorrow in front of a House committee, the government-appointed investigator, issued a long report that stated the Russian government did intrude on the 2016 election in favor of Donald Trump.
Starting point is 00:04:24 But the report does not accuse the president or his campaign of illegal acts, disappointing both Democrats and the media. Now, tomorrow, both sides, Republicans and Democrats, will try to get Robert Mueller to admit damaging things. The Democrat strategy will be to say, for example, Mr. Mueller, if you were the attorney general, would you have brought charges against President Trump or any of his campaign? The Republicans are likely to say something like, Mr. Miller, when did you know there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government? When exactly were you made
Starting point is 00:05:15 aware of that? The strategy is simple. Democrats want to reopen the Russian collusion investigation, at least in the media, and condemn President Trump for bad behavior. Republicans want to tell the nation the whole thing was bogus, an attempt at a coup to remove Donald Trump from office before he even got started. So there's the line. You can see it tomorrow. It'll be on vivid display. Robert Mueller himself is a former chief of the FBI and an old hand in Washington.
Starting point is 00:05:53 He knows how to negotiate these waters. I expect him to say very little about anything outside of his report. I don't expect him to be provocative. But I could be wrong because President Trump himself has disparaged Robert Mueller. And if the special prosecutor wants to, he can get a little payback. He can imply things. He can do body language. He can say, well, it's a tough call, that kind of thing, and imply that the Trump administration and the president himself did something wrong in the entire investigation. That is
Starting point is 00:06:38 possible. But my instinct tells me Robert Mueller is going to be conservative. He's going to be cautious. He is a creature of Washington, D.C. He wants this to go away. He doesn't want to controversy hung around his neck. Now all of that is going to disappoint the media. On the conservative side, there has been discussion about Robert Mueller and his staff meeting with Democrats secretly to try to sandbag President Trump in the testimony. I don't believe that happened. Again, I could be wrong, but it's not Mueller's style. On the left side, which is 90% of the national media, they desperately want to reopen the Russian collusion situation in order to defeat Donald Trump in the 2020 election. So there will be high drama tomorrow in Washington as Robert
Starting point is 00:07:36 Mueller has to parry both sides. He's got really nobody that likes him. We'll see, of course, what happens, and we will have the best analysis of it right here on the O'Reilly Update. That is a message of the day. The first national football league game of the year doesn't start for another month and a half in the regular season, but players are already preparing for 2019. team. Last week, the Denver Broncos became the first team to show up for training, the league's 31 other teams reporting this week. During training camp, athletes will be subjected
Starting point is 00:09:26 to grueling practices, intense physical training, and must follow a strict diet. For many NFL hopefuls, this is the closest preseason they will ever get to playing professionally with roughly half getting cut before ever playing a regular season game. Players that make the teams will earn a good living. This year, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson tops the list of the highest paid players. He'll take home a whopping $35 million in 2019. Part of a contract worth a record $107 million in total. Obviously, not all players command that kind of money. According to the NFL's collective bargaining agreement, the minimum annual salary for a rookie with one-year contract, $480,000. Player with three-year experience makes at least $750,000. And those
Starting point is 00:10:20 seven or more years, roughly $900,000. Again, those are minimums. Quarterbacks tend to make the most money, with a median income of $1 million. The lowest paid position, that goes to running backs, whose median salary is $630,000 a year. The reason ball carriers get less, is that they're often injured. If a player is hurt, sometimes his salary isn't even guaranteed. The average career span of an NFL running back, the shortest of all positions, slightly more than two and a half years. Kickers, NFL kickers, tend to stick around the longest. According to the Players Association, kickers and punters have an average career span of about five years. One of the many benefits of having rules that prevent other players from actually hitting you.
Starting point is 00:11:15 But the mental strain on kickers is substantial. Miss a field goal? It will not be a nice day. I know. I kicked in college. More after this. Is debt weighing you down? What if you could pay it off and save yourself $1,000 or more each month?
