Starting point is 00:00:00 Bill O'Reilly here. Wednesday, July 24th, 2019. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Here's what's happening across our nation. Former Special Counsel Robert Mueller testifying on Capitol Hill. Mexico's murder rate hits record numbers in the first half of this year. Baltimore's new deputy police commissioner robbed at gunpoint in one of America's most dangerous cities. Facebook agrees to a $5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission. Also coming up my message of the day on Robert Mueller's testimony. But first, the former special counsel sat in front of congressional leaders answering questions from both Republicans and Democrats over his two-year investigation of President Trump
Starting point is 00:00:54 and the Russia-Trump allegation. Mr. Mueller was clearly uncomfortable in the testimony. Also, he is no fan of President Trump, but he did not add anything new in his initial remarks. Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee tried hard to convict the president of obstruction of justice. Republicans pointed out lack of evidence in that area, and that Mueller really didn't pursue the obstruction of justice case in a methodical way. I will have more on the testimony, getting very specific, in the message of the day coming up. The unprecedented violence sweeping Mexico hitting new records, up 5% so far this year. As of July, there have been nearly 18,000 murders in a country
Starting point is 00:01:50 with a population of 125 million people. The drug cartels are mostly responsible. The Mexican government seems powerless to stop the violence. Baltimore's new deputy police commissioner and his wife robbed a gunpoint in one of America's dangerous cities. Two teens approached a couple with a weapon. They fled with their wallets, purse, smartphones, no arrests have been made. Baltimore is one of the highest crime rates in the USA.
Starting point is 00:02:17 stat show the city of 600,000, saw 309 murders last year, 10 times the national average. Facebook agreeing to a historic $5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission over the handling of personal information in 2016. The FTC fining the giant social media platform for violating personal security privacy laws of millions of Americans. Settlement is the largest ever imposed on a tech company. The message on Robert Mueller's testimony moments away. A massive data breach of home titles and mortgages may have exposed your home and bank loans to home title thieves. They're after money, of course, and they get it by forging your home title, so it looks like you sold your home.
Starting point is 00:03:16 then they'll take out loans against your home and stick you with the payments. And listen, no insurance bank or identity theft program protects you. Home title lock does. Time now for the O'Reilly Update message of the day. Robert Mueller's congressional testimony. It came down in a predictable way. The chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Gerald Nadler, Congressman from New York, opened up by saying any other person would have been charged with crimes referring to President Trump an alleged obstruction of justice. But Robert Mueller did not say anything more than what he has written in his almost 500-page report. However, a few things were clear from watching the testimony. First, the special counsel was very uneasy, nervous even, bad body language in the sense
Starting point is 00:04:42 that he looked uncomfortable in almost every situation, often asking for questions to be repeated, trying to refer to his own report, that he did not remember. Mr. Mueller did not look authoritative or confident at all. There was no direct statement by Robert Mueller about anything new. he simply deflected all questions to his already written report. He did not take any shot at President Trump, as he did in May. You'll remember, Robert Mueller said, if his investigators had found evidence that cleared the president of obstruction of justice, they would have stated it.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Now, looking at my notes, it was clear that the Democrats on the committee wanted to convict President Trump of obstruction of justice, where the Republicans on the committee wanted to impeach Robert Mueller's investigation. For example, Robert Mueller did not fire immediately Peter struck the FBI agent who, in personal texts, said bad things about President Trump even while he was investigating the president. Mr. Mueller did not look strong. under that kind of withering testimony. Also, there was no explanation as to why Robert Mueller violated Justice Department guidelines. Remember, Mueller works for the Attorney General. He violated Justice Department guidelines by saying that his investigators could not clear
Starting point is 00:06:32 President Trump. That's not what prosecutors do. If you don't have enough evidence, then you don't say anything. There was a lot of back and forth about President Trump ordering Robert Mueller himself to be fired. However, that order was never carried out. So it really wasn't in order. The president has the constitutional authority to fire any special counsel. Surely there were conversations about doing that because that's a testimony of the White House counsel, He told Mueller, yeah, I was ordered, but then he rescinded the order or he didn't rescind the
Starting point is 00:07:12 but it was never carried out. And believe me, if Donald Trump wanted an order carried out, it would have been carried out. The White House counsel does not have the power to stop that. Only Congress does. So in the end, I think Americans have had enough of the Russian collusion, obstruction of justice situation. Nothing will come. of today's testimony from Robert Mueller. Nothing. For more fact-based analysis, please go to Bill O'Reilly.com. I think you like it. In a moment, something you might not know. The Beatles' 1968 White Album sold more than 24 million copies over five decades. case. Second on the list goes to Michael Jackson's thriller, 33 million albums sold.
