Bill O'Reilly here, Friday, July 26, 2019. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Here's what's happening today in America. Members of the House heading back to their home districts today, the beginning of their summer recess. The Senate will adjourn next Friday. Neither chamber will return to work until the second week in September. In the meantime, the crisis on the southern border will continue. With the federal. government failing to pass any meaningful legislation to stem the tide of migrants and illegal narcotics pouring into the USA. So while our elected representatives enjoy their vacation, a total of 44 days for House members, let's take a look at what the Border Patrol will be dealing with over the next several weeks. We begin with the human element. If the next 44 days or anything

like last month, border agents will detain 130,000 people attempting to illegally enter the USA. That includes more than 44,000 single adults, 84,000 as part of a family, and nearly 11,000 unaccompanied children under the age of 18. Of those taken into custody, about 860 will have criminal records. Next, the drug trade. While Congress is enjoying their break, U.S. Border Patrol agents nationwide will seize close to 100,000 pounds of illegal narcotics destined for our nation's streets. That includes 70,000 pounds of pot, 11,000 meth-anphetamine, 3,000 pounds of cocaine and heroin, 13,000 filed under other. That's basic drugs that nobody really knows what they do. Now, drug consumption, of course, leads to crime, child abuse, even death, something for

elected officials to ponder as they lay on the beach. Then we have the gangs trying to make their way into America. During Congress's 44-day recess, about 200 members of violent gangs will be arrested by the Border Patrol. Half of them, MS-13 members from El Salvador. Remember, those are just the ones that law enforcement agents catch. Most illegal border crossings of people and drugs are successful. So let's hope members of Congress enjoy their time off. Unfortunately, for the rest of us, the drug smugglers, human traffickers, and violent gangs aren't likely to go on vacation. They will be very busy doing what they do. Time now for the O'Reilly Update message of the day taking a left. Some Americans are surprised by the far-left turn the Democratic Party has taken in its quest to win back the White House. Just a few years ago, it would have been political suicide to advocate open borders, health benefits for foreign nationals in the country illegally, taxpayer reparations for slavery, and abortion for any reason up until birth. Those are all radical positions, but now most Democrats running for president embrace them.

along with amnesty for illegal aliens already here. So what exactly is going on? Well, first of all, the national media is supporting many far-left policies trying to push the country away from President Trump, whom they despise. Also, the far-left presence on social media is much louder and more threatening than moderate positions. So if you oppose the radical agenda, you may be attacked, sometimes viciously. This intimidates opposition to the far left, as some are afraid to go up against it. A vivid example of that is the boycott strategy used by radical groups which threaten corporations if they support conservatives. The Faroeft's goal is to harm and smear traditional Americans, making it easier to recast the USA as a quasi-socialist country that imposes so-called equality through income redistribution and social justice. The Far Left has succeeded, at least somewhat, with great help from the media, in convincing millions of people that traditional America is an unjust nation full of white privilege and male dominance. And this is not a subtle campaign. To mark the 4th of July, the Uber-left New York Times announced that America has never been a great country. The Democrats have largely adopted the radical agenda as the nation saw in the debates. A traditional Democrat like Joe Biden is attacked by radical Senator Kamala Harris,

and there's great celebration in the liberal precincts. It is absolutely fascinating. to watch this, but a bit frightening as well. If Ms. Harris or Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren or most of the other Dems ever achieved power, America, as we know it, would disappear. So what would take its place? Well, last week I visited Germany, and that system is what the far left really wants. The government in Berlin controls pretty much everything the German worker does. If you want health care, it's not free, you have to pay a tax for it. But then, after the payment, you can get served by any hospital at any time and any doctor, but you don't get to select the doctor. Also, you have to pay local taxes and a 19% value added tax on everything you buy.

that means if you want a refrigerator, a car, or any luxury item, even clothing, you have to pay 19% on top of the price. The result is that most German workers cannot save much money. They cannot improve their economic circumstance. The money goes to Berlin, which then doles it out to people who don't want to work, etc. If that's the system you want, that's what the Democrats are And that's a message. Popular road trips include the California and southern Oregon coastlines, northern New England, and North Carolina's Blue Ridge Parkway, all are great destinations taken for me. Now, those of us leaving on a jet plane are likely visiting one of these top five vacation destinations. London, Rome, Vancouver, Canada, Dublin, and Orlando, Florida, where one million daily visitors make the pilgrimage to get their picture taken with a cartoon mouse. On average U.S. employees receive 15 days of paid vacation a year. Although 52% of Americans do not use the vacation days,

all of them anyway. Incredible. The average person spends around 1,200 bucks on vacation. The average family of four, $4,000. Cross Pond, our friends have more time, but earn less. France guarantees 30 days paid time off for workers. In the summer, the country is divided into Julyus, those who start their 30 days in July, and Augustists, those who start in August. Very little gets done during this downtime in Europe. With so much time to relax, I guess the countries aren't worried about their averaging 9% unemployment rate. So before the summer ends, you might make time to get out there and see a few things. It may confirm. your suspicions that the USA is the greatest place in the world.
