And Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders also dropping in the polls with Elizabeth Warren on the rise. California governor Gavin Newsom, he backed Nike's decision to ditch a new America-themed sneaker on Wednesday, urging the company to relocate to his state after the Arizona governor, Doug Deucey,
Starting point is 00:01:23 slashed his administration's financial incentives towards the shoemaker. Starting point is 00:02:00 Back to Washington, where a top Democratic lawmakers said it should be a crime to mock members of Congress on the Internet. Frederica Wilson slammed her critics during a fiery speech on Wednesday, saying those who intimidate politicians on social media should be prosecuted. Frederica, she may want to reread the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. And the New York Times not feeling very patriotic this Independence Day. The national newspaper published an online video saying the USA was never that great, calling the country just okay. The paper cited crime rates, life expectancy, a series of other data, but failed to mention any major accomplishments or the global impact that the United States has made in the world in the last, I don't know, 243 years, including being the beacon of freedom and hope for the world.

You are listening to the O'Reilly Update, and here is my message of the day, life as we know it. When it comes to the subject of abortion, there is far too much talking and not nearly enough thinking. Terminating a fetus is a life-death decision that should be treated with grave concern for both the mother and the developing fetus, which contains human DNA, upon conception. There are close to 1 million abortions every year in the USA. So what are the
Starting point is 00:04:34 scientific facts involved with taking a life from the mother's wound and destroying it? The most important one is that no human being can know with certainty when life actually begins. Christian doctrine says that upon conception, a soul enters the cell mass, thereby making it a human being a creation of God. Those who justify abortion reject that belief and embrace a variety of other standards for designating who is a human being. But again, there is no exact scientific definition here. That is a fact. Doctors in America are apparently siding with the life movement. According to recent studies, only 7% of obstetricians and gynecologists will perform abortions. However, You will not hear that statistic much from the American media, which has succeeded in framing the
Starting point is 00:05:31 abortion life debate as good versus evil. But incredibly, the evil is on the pro-choice side. If you oppose abortion, you're a denier of female equality, a misogynist. If you do not subscribe to unfettered abortion, you're violating, quote, reproductive rights. Recently, Georgia, Alabama, and some other states passed new laws, placing limits on aborting fetuses. In response, the CEO of the Disney Corporation, Robert Iger, threatened to deny Georgia all Disney film business. For this, Iger is being celebrated as a hero in Hollywood. In New York, where there was once limits on abortion, now there are none. The Roman Catholic governor, Andrew Cuomo, championed a new law that says abortion can take place at any time for any reason right up till birth. Mr. Cuomo describes himself as a
Starting point is 00:06:29 practicing Catholic, but acknowledges his enthusiasm for the very liberal abortion law in New York puts him at odds with his faith. Former Vice President Joe Biden now running for president is also caught up in the abortion war. For 43 years, Biden supported the Hyde Amendment, which bans the use of federal money for abortions outside of rape, incest, and permanent damage to the mother's health. But suddenly, Joe doesn't think the Hyde Amendment's fair. That's because the far left, which is driving the Democratic Party these days, has villainized every pro-life position, including the Hyde Amendment. So Joe is scared. He's also a Catholic. A humane society should be able to limit abortion while protecting mothers in dangerous circumstances.
Starting point is 00:07:17 Abortion should not be a political issue used to demonize. Yes, American, women have rights, but so too do developing cells that will shortly become human beings. If you deny that last statement, you might be accused of plain God. You don't know and I don't know when a human being becomes a human being. So shouldn't we all respect and promote life? That's what human rights are all about, or am I wrong? The O'Reilly update will return with something you might not know. millions of Americans have been diagnosed with cancer or a serious illness if you are one of them and money is a problem you're not alone it's simple if you own a life insurance policy of

I'm Mike Slater, filling in for Bill O'Reilly. The O'Reilly update now brings you something you might not know. Of these 56 men, the signers of the Declaration of Independence, the men who pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor, I want to talk about one in particular.
Starting point is 00:09:14 He doesn't get his due. Each colony had a certain number of delegates, and a majority of those delegates had to vote for independence for each colony. Delaware had three delegates. Two of them were debating in Philadelphia, and the third, Caesar Rodney, was in Dover. One night, Rodney received a letter from one of the other delegates, Thomas McKean. And the letter said, Caesar, you got to get over here now.
Starting point is 00:09:37 I'm voting yes for independence. But the other delegate, George Reed, is voting no we need you to break this tie otherwise the declaration of independence won't pass and we've got to vote on july second caesar rodney received the letter the night before he got on his horse immediately and rode 80 miles in a thunderstorm for 14 hours on horseback he had asthma and painful arthritis in his hands and feet and years ago he had a botched surgery for cancer on his face. He always wore a bandage to hide his face.
Starting point is 00:10:13 But he never stopped. And when he arrived to the hall, he was covered in mud, sick and exhausted, wearing boots and spurs. But he arrived just when the voting was beginning. And he cast that tie-breaking vote for Delaware. And this convinced South Carolina and Pennsylvania to change their votes for independence as well.
Starting point is 00:10:31 And now it was unanimous. John Adams said of Caesar, he said he's the oddest-looking man in the water, world, pale, his face not bigger than a large apple, yet there is a sense and fire, spirit, wit, and humor in his countenance. Reminds me of 1st Samuel 16.7, God said to Samuel, do not consider his appearance. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. Caesar Rodney had a heart for independence, a heart for
Starting point is 00:11:09 freedom. Do you? I know you do. You're listening right now. You get it. But does everyone else have we as a country, have we lost our heart for freedom? I hope you have a great Fourth of July. I hope your burgers are cooked to perfection and the fireworks are the best ever. And when you look around and they see your kids and your grandkids running around in the grass with sparklers, take in the joy of the moment and take in the freedom we have. But also take a few seconds to think of Caesar Rodney and his midnight ride for freedom. Thank God for it. We'll be right back. It's an uncertain world out there. You know that. Disaster can strike at any time. So you need to be prepared. One way to do that is with freeze-dried food. It tastes good. It's healthy. It can be stored for 25 years. That's why I'm
