Starting point is 00:00:34 You are listening to the weekend edition of the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. Here's what's happening this week in America. The one big beautiful bill made it through. Record-breaking speech. Supreme Court went again and rates maybe lowered this month. That's all coming up.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, the one big beautiful bill has passed the House, then the Senate, and the House again. Trump wrote very proud of Senate Majority Leader John Thune, who worked around the clock to get the One Big Beautiful Bill Act approved in the Senate. He is tough, smart, and knows how to get the job done. Thank you, John. Trump also wrote great job by the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, who spearheaded the drive in Congress for the approval of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
Starting point is 00:01:18 He has great strength and wisdom. And we'll go down in history as one of the most successful speakers of the House in history, maybe even the best of them all. Thank you, Mike. And congratulations on a job well done. Trump said there will be a signing ceremony on the 4th of July today, 4 o'clock Eastern, with a flyover from B2 bombers. He said together we can do things that were not even imagined possible less than one year ago.
Starting point is 00:01:42 We will keep working and winning. Congratulations America. Before the House had their final vote, the leader of the Democrats in the House, Hakeem Jeffries, broke the record for the longest House floor speech ever. He started at 5 a.m. yesterday and spoke for 8 hours and 44 minutes. very slowly. This did nothing other than delay the vote for eight hours and 44 minutes. In the speech, he said a deportation machine will be unleashed on steroids if this bill passes.
Starting point is 00:02:12 While ICE will be funded at 37.5 billion, that is larger than the military budget of every country in the world except for 15. ICE's budget will be tucked right in between the military budget of Canada and Italy. In similar news, the Supreme Court said 7 to 2, that the Trump administration is not obligated to keep eight non-citizens in temporary confinement at a U.S. military base in Djibouti, while a legal battle over their status plays out. This clears the way for their removal to South Sudan. They were on the way to the South Sudan when a district judge said, oh, you can't do that. Well, the Supreme Court last week lifted that injunction, but the same district judge said,
Starting point is 00:02:51 no, no, they have to stay. So the Supreme Court came back and said, no, they don't. even Elena Kagan, a progressive justice, said, I do not see how a district court can compel compliance with an order that this court has stayed. The chair of the Federal Reserve, under recent pressure from President Trump,
Starting point is 00:03:07 said he will not take off the table cutting rates as soon as this month. Trump has called him too late Powell while making the point that we have some of the highest interest rates in the developed world. I'm Mike Slater from Politics by Faith. Bill O'Reilly with your message of the day. Next.

Here's something to ponder.
Starting point is 00:04:01 When the founding fathers conceived of a new country that would promote freedom and justice, they envisioned leadership that would pursue those things. No tyrants need apply. But Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, and the boys also understood human nature and how awful it can be. So, they built in controls over present. and members of Congress. What the founders did not anticipate
Starting point is 00:04:30 was the potential of money purchasing political power. And here we are. In order to run for national office, the citizen needs hundreds of thousands of dollars, often millions, for the presidency billions. You may have noticed not one congressional Democrat voted for the big bill that President Trump that President Trump promoted even though it would keep taxes on working Americans at a lower
Starting point is 00:05:03 rate. If any Democrat had supported that bill, the person would have been shunned by the party and most likely denied funds for re-election. Same thing on the Republican side, defy President Trump, and you are likely finished. Donated money will be very difficult to raise. So voting one's conscience, which the founding fathers wanted, has been replaced by political survival, not the way our system should work. I'm Bill O'Reilly.
Starting point is 00:05:40 I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com, Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com, name in town, if you wish to opine. Now let's go to the mail. All right, let's go to Andrew Mattingly in Port Orange, Florida. I'm so disappointed in Donald Trump and the Republican Party for not including no tax on Social Security in the big bill, as promised, while keeping the overtime and tips in the bill. Very disappointing.
Starting point is 00:06:08 You will get a bigger credit if you're on Social Security and you're paying taxes off of it, and they can only do what they can do. Debt is so staggering. But I'm, I think workers and senior citizens do much better on this bill than they would under anything put forth by the Democrats. Wendy, I'm older than the baby boomers. I love my country. Always have, and I'm damn proud of it. I've worked hard, started a business when I was 24 years old.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Now, my daughter runs it only in America. Yeah, I mean, entrepreneurism, small business owners, man, you go to Canada, just Canada. And the regulations up there compared to here, two different worlds. Charles, concierge member, Charles gets direct access to me. And if Charles gets in trouble, my crew will help him out. Tonight's host of the news is superb. Two points, very important. Democrats will not reduce entitlement spending, despite our country's massive debt.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Republican tax legislation is not tax cuts for the rich, but a reduction in taxes for business and a middle class. 100% accurate, Charles, and I wish every American saw it the way you see it. That's 100% accurate. Novell Rogers, Petal, Mississippi, will President Trump take retribution against those voting against the big bill? I think he should. I think he will. That's his history.
Starting point is 00:07:39 If you're a Republican congressman and you vote against the big bill, you're going to get primaries. No doubt about it. in a moment something you might not know the best coast just got better introducing quantum of the seas sailing from LA this fall conquer next level thrills on the boldest ship in the West like flow rider surf sessions bumper cars and soaring 300 feet above sea level on the North Star plus more than 15 dining options on board all between discoveries in Ensenada and even overnights in Cabo you've never done Mexico like this book your Boulder Baja adventure from
Starting point is 00:08:16 Angeles today. Come seek the Royal Caribbean. Itineraries vary by sale date. Ships Registry Bahamas. Now the O'Reilly update brings you something you might not know. This week, proud citizens will celebrate the 4th of July with barbecues, parades, and a few fireworks. Here's a history behind the illumination industry. Fireworks originated in ancient China 2,000 years ago. they were initially used to scare away evil spirits with loud noises, and by the 9th century, the Chinese had developed gunpowder, which led to fire crackers and aerial displays. Fireworks spread to the Middle East in Europe through trade and warfare.
Starting point is 00:09:02 By the Renaissance, they became popular in royal weddings and public festivals. The incendiaries arrived in North America, in the 18th century, became linked with the nation's independence celebration, wrote John Adams, quote, the day ought to be honored with pomp and parade bonfires and illuminations. Well, today fireworks mean big business. Every year, Americans spend more than $2 billion on them,
Starting point is 00:09:37 most popular sparklers, firecrackers, Roman candles. Ironically, nearly all fireworks used to celebrate the nation's independence are manufactured in China, Macau, to be specific. But beware the tradition carries danger. Each year, 10,000 Americans visit emergency rooms for firework-related injuries. Most common, burns, eye, trauma, missing fingers. On average, five people die every July 4th from firework intrusions. And here's something else you might not know.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Fourth of July was nearly celebrated two days earlier. John Adams thought Independence Day should be honored on July 2nd when Congress formally approved separation from England. Annoyed, Adams would turn down invitations to appear at July 4th events. even filing a formal complaint with the federal government. Both Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on July 4th, 1876, the 50th anniversary of Independence. How's that for a coincidence? Back after this.
