Bill O'Reilly here. It's Thursday, June 20th, 2019. You are listening to the O'Reilly update.
And here's what's happening today in America. Iran shoots down a U.S. drone in international airspace.
The world awaits President Trump's reaction. The president raising more than $24 million in the first 24 hours of his 2020 campaign.
Senator Cory Booker says racial reparations for slavery are urgently needed in America.
Health officials in the Dominican Republic say the mysterious deaths of nine Americans are fake news.
Also coming up, big trouble in California, that is my message of the day.
But first, the world awaiting reaction from the U.S. government after Iran shot down an American drone in international airspace.
The Iranian mullah is apparently seeking a military confrontation with the world's most powerful nation, the United States.
President Trump will have to decide how to punish Iran, but that country will be punished.
Mr. Trump smashed fundraising records Wednesday, taking in more than $24 million during the first day of his re-election campaign.
Figure is greater than Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and Beto O'Rourke combined their donations
during the first 24 hours of their campaigns.
House Democrats holding public hearings on racial reparations for the descendants of former slaves
before the Civil War.
Senator Cory Booker said the cash payments are, quote, urgently needed to address what he
calls the new Jim Crow.
Now, I've written a column on the situation, which you might find interesting.
It is posted on bill o'Reilly.com.
To the Dominican Republic, where health ministers are dismissing the mysterious deaths
plaguing that vacation spot as fake news.
At least nine Americans have died in the DR in recent months.
Agents from the FBI are now investigating resort, food, alcohol, swimming pools, and air
conditioners to try to figure out what's causing the illness that is causing so much trouble.
The stock market bracing for next week's G20 summit in Osaka, Japan.
President Trump is set to hold private talks with Chinese President Xi, raising new hopes
the planet's two largest economies can avoid a potential trade war.
Coming up, my message of the day, bad times in California.
Right back.
A young lady was looking to buy her first home in Texas. The market at her price point is very
hot, so she went to real estate agentsitrust.com for help. To ensure her offer was accepted,
her agent suggested the following steps. One, get pre-qualified with a mortgage company that her
agent had a history using to satisfy the seller's agent. Two, find a home that was priced to sell
so they knew the owner was ready to move.
Three, find a home well located and priced correctly so it could be leased if an emergency
occurred.
Four, anticipating multiple offers, offer more than asking, but still less than what the house
would be appraised for.
And five, offered a help with some of the closing costs.
The house the lady wanted had 10 offers in three days, but she got the house because she
get an agent who knew how to get the job done.
That's why I love real estate agents, I trust.com.
No pinheads, just great agents.
Get moving with real estate agents, I trust.com.

Now the O'Reilly Update, a message of the day.
California is in trouble.
The nation's largest state is a beautiful place.
I think I visited every county in California.
you have magnificent coastline, you have mountains, you have a very nice climate.
There are 37 million citizens in the state of California, by far the largest state we have in
the Union. Fifty-five electoral votes, so California is very powerful. It is the world's fifth
largest economy behind the USA, China, Japan, Germany, and ahead of the U.K.
median housing price in California, $544,000. Lowest median housing in the United States, Ohio, $169,000.
Now, the rise of problems in California has to do with the way the state is being governed.
As you know, about 33% of people living in California are on welfare. It has the highest homeless population in the USA,
estimated to be 135,000 people living on the streets. That's 22% of the entire U.S. homeless
population. 27% of Californians were not born in the USA. The state is the highest number of
billionaires, but the middle class is disappearing because of housing costs, taxes, crime,
and illegal immigration. Did you know that San Francisco is the highest property crime rate
for any major U.S. city? And now the specter of disease in Los Angeles and San Francisco
is rising. Some LAPD officers will not even go into the homeless camps because typhus has broken
out there. Forty-five percent of Californians either live below or at the poverty line, 45 percent.
The state government does have a surplus because of its high tax rate, but the state government does
But that money is not being used to correct the problems. Therefore, many professionals in California
are leaving, going to tax-friendly states like Nevada and Texas. So the infrastructure in California
is wobbling to say the least. A case can be made that the far-left leadership in Sacramento
is leading the state right down the drain. California is a one-party state, as Republicans
have very little influence there. All in all, California is a magnificent place. If you haven't
visited, you must go. But it is very troubled, and it may be the wave of the future. State government
has a responsibility to all its citizens, not just a selected few. You cannot tax and tax and tax
and expect hard-working wage earners to live in your state.
That's not going to happen.
New York State also losing people to Florida, North Carolina,
and other lower tax rate states.
Now, the solution to California's massive problems is discipline,
financial discipline, and basically setting rules.
You cannot live on the street taking heroin every day,
and ruining the city landscape, you cannot do that.
If you can't find a place to go, the state should provide one.
But enough is enough as a state of California is in big trouble.

The O'Reilly Update continues now with something you might not know.
Today marks the 44th anniversary of the release of Stephen Spielberg's very scary movie, Jaws.
The film would become the first summer blockbuster in U.S. history, earning more than $460 million worldwide, not an easy feat in 1975.
Spielberg's terrifying Great White Shark has scared generations of fans, but here's something you might not know.
the film also had a major impact on the planet's shark population. The movie sparked a global
hysteria surrounding sharks, particularly great whites. And scientists say that caused overfishing
intentional killings or trophy hunting that caused major population declines of great whites across
the planet. Before the film, people had a very different perception of sharks. According to the
Florida program for shark research,
It was a general consensus at the start of the 20th century that sharks never attacked human beings.
That idea started to change during World War II when some American sailors and airmen ended up
in shark-infested waters of the Pacific Ocean and were killed.
The most famous incident was the sinking of the U.S. Indianapolis by a Japanese torpedo.
Of the 1,000 men that survived the attack, just 300 were eventually rescued.
Historians saying more than 150 sailors were eaten by sharks over the course of four days.
You can read that harrowing story in the book, Killing the Rising Sun.
Today, sharks are making a major comeback, driven by an exploding seal population, their food.
Great Whites are returning to places like Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in record numbers.
The region, also the location of Spielberg's fictional movie town, is posting warning signs in local beaches,
notifying swimmers of the risks posed by Great Whites.
The mingling of humans and sharks along the shoreline is very risky, of course,
one man fatally injured while surfing last year.
So remember, if you plan on swimming off the coast of New England or even Long Island this summer,
don't go in the water at dusk or dawn, remove jewelry, sharks like shiny objects,
and if you see a seal, get out of the water.
You may have accidentally stumbled on a Great White's
next meal, and you don't want to be part of that menu. Back after this. A few weeks ago, we announced
our first ever cruise through history taking place next spring. This is more than your average
pleasure cruise. Yes, there's going to be great Italian food and plenty of time to bask in the
Mediterranean sun. But we're also going to take you back in time to the foundations of our faith,
our freedom, and human progress. There are four options available.
on the cruise, but basically will begin in Venice, then sail the eastern Mediterranean
visiting Croatia, Greece, and Israel. While there, you'll walk where Jesus and the prophets walk,
guided every step of the way. I'll be there. So will my pal, Glenn Beck. Two of us will be doing
a couple of shows together, one while at sea, the other in Israel. Also joining us, David Barton,
Rabbi Laypen, and Stu. We would love for you to share this experience as we cruise through history
together. Please visit come sailaway.com to learn more. That's come sailaway.com for all the details.
