Here's what's happening this week in America. has been flipped the safe for kids act women in the draft and busiest travel day yet that's all coming up then bill's going to be here with your message of the day but first cnn has flipped a coin and who won the coin toss joe biden so his team gets to decide which podium he stands behind the one on the left or the one on the right he chose the one on our right now because he chose
Starting point is 00:00:54 the podium trump's team gets to choose if they want to go first or second in the closing statement and he chose last. How frustratingly pre-packaged and pre-planned is every single second of this whole thing. Joe Biden is at Camp David up in the mountains to prepare and rest. His team says they may go right from Camp David to Atlanta. Trump, meanwhile, has been meeting with potential vice presidential candidates, and they've been talking about how to best hit Biden on the economy, crime, and the border. The governor of New York has signed the Safe for Kids Act.
Starting point is 00:01:27 She says, our kids are in distress. quote, they're not living carefree lives because they're being held captive to powerful forces outside their own control, algorithms that are intentionally addictive. This bill requires social media companies to restrict these addictive feeds to users under 18. It would ban notifications from social media platforms between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. without parental consent. And it would require new age verification and parental consent tools that are yet to be established by the state's attorney general. Senate Democrats have added language to the annual defense authorization bill to require women to register for the draft. Many Republicans have said no and have gone on the attack mode against Democrats in campaign ads for even suggesting such a thing. Sam Brown is a Senate candidate Republican in Nevada, an army veteran who has burned scars all over his face from an IED in Afghanistan.
Starting point is 00:02:19 He has an ad that says, look at my face. This is the high cost of war. Amy and I volunteered to serve and we honor all who serve, but forcing. America's daughters to register for the draft is unacceptable. Shame on Jackie Rosen. Friday, June 14th was the second busiest travel day ever at our nation's airports. Just under three million people traveled. But the previous high was just last month. And the third highest ever was just last week. Therefore, experts predict that this Fourth of July will break that record. Get over three million in the airports. AAA is predicting that 71 million people
Starting point is 00:02:53 will travel more than 50 miles this Fourth of July. Bill O'Reilly. as your message of the day. Next. Let's face it, the U.S. economy is under stress. Starting point is 00:04:11 Here's how insane our political system has become under President Biden. The head of the FBI, Christopher Ray, is publicly warning that a terror attack is very possible. We could be hit with violence at any time, says Ray. But the President of the United States will not address the issue because of his open border policy. Ray believes Biden's failure to enforce immigration law is making it much easier for the terror killers. Now, writing this month in the journal Foreign Affairs, former CIA assistant director Mike Morell and Dean Graham Allison of Harvard illuminate Ray's warning. Here's a quote. The FBI director has also highlighted a specific scrutiny vulnerability. In December, Ray warned the Senate Judiciary Committee that foreign terrorists have the ability to
Starting point is 00:05:09 exploit any point of entry, including our southwest border. And indeed, eight men with ties to ISIS were arrested last week, as you know. They all came across the point of porous southern border. Have you heard the president address that issue in any meaningful way? You have not. He is putting politics above national security. What say you, George Clooney, and your foolish showbiz pals? Finally, keep a focus on the Olympics in France. Very high-value target. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Name in town if you wish to opine. All right, let's go to the mail. We got Penny. I will be voting for President Trump,
Starting point is 00:06:11 not just against Joe Biden. I would vote for Trump no matter what Democrat was running. Okay, I understand, but all, penny, all of the polls show every single one of them that most Americans are voting against something, not for. And that was the gist of our report yesterday. Janet Eskorn, Jackson, Wyoming, a great little town, cold but good. Hey, Bell, you spoke about Judicial Watch in a not so favorable way a few weeks ago. I saw Tom Fenton, he's the president of it. I was impressed enough to start supporting the organization. Would you mind elaborating on your feeling?
Starting point is 00:07:01 I told you then, Janet, what it was. Judicial Watch does good work in ferreting out information, Freedom of Information Act. In fact, I think it's the best for doing that. But whenever we ask them to appear, they dodge. They dodge us. Okay? So, you know, when that happens, I get skeptical. Mary Hamlet, Fresno, California, I appreciate your apology about your analysis of media covering the terrorists crossing the border.
Starting point is 00:07:37 Too many people do not accept when they make a mistake. I know, but, you know, I got to. Got to do it. Second time in 27 years. I still have nightmare. I had a nightmare about it. In a moment, something you might not know. Starting point is 00:08:33 249 years ago, a group of American patriots were defeated at the Battle of Bunker Hill. Despite that loss, the rag-tag militia was able to. to inflict big casualties against the well-trained British Army. Here is the story. In the aftermath of the battles of Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts, British troops moved to secure the countryside surrounding Boston.
Starting point is 00:09:01 1,000 Americans fortified themselves on top of Bunker and Breeds Hill located on the Charlestown Peninsula. On June 17, 1775, the English attacked their position. Though the redcoats outnumbered the Patriots two to one, the Americans withstood the initial barrage. The English retreated, regrouped, attacked a second time. The militia itself scattered. The skirmish lasted no more than two hours, but the result was gruesome. By the end of the battle, Patriot gunfire had killed 300 British
Starting point is 00:09:43 troops. Another 800 wounded. More than 100 Americans perished, 500 wounded. One hero, the conflict was a former slave named Salem Poor, or had purchased his own freedom just months earlier. Though the Americans lost the Battle of Bunker Hill, it proved the Continental Army could inflict significant damage against the British. Back in London, King George realized war with the colonies would be a long, bloody, expensive affair. In early July, General George Washington arrived in Cambridge, Massachusetts a few miles from Bunker Hill. He assumed command of the newly formed Continental Army. And here's something else you might not know.
Starting point is 00:10:34 A future president of the United States watched the battle of Bunker Hill from a near-year-old. by plateau. The terrified residents of Boston viewed the skirmish from the tops of buildings and churches. And the crowd included a seven-year-old boy named John Quincy Adams, who watched the conflict alongside his mother, Abigail. Back after this. Power, politics, and the people behind the headlines.
