Starting point is 00:00:21 Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. It's Thursday, March 20th, 2025. Here's what's happening today in America. call with Zelensky, you pen money withheld, rates steady, and Trump's first department eliminated. It's all coming up, and Bill's going to be here with your message today, but first, President Trump talked on the phone with President Putin on Tuesday for two and a half hours. Yesterday, he had an hour-long phone call with Zelensky. Trump wrote, I just completed a very good phone call with President Zelensky of Ukraine.
Starting point is 00:00:54 Much of the discussion was based on the call made yesterday. That was Tuesday with President Putin in order to align. both Russia and Ukraine in terms of their requests and needs. This, as far as we know, is the first time that Trump and Zelensky have talked since that Oval Office experience not 20 days ago. The Trump administration has paused $175 million of federal funding to the University of Pennsylvania, as this Ivy League school still allows men to compete against women. There will be an investigation into UPenn's alleged Title IX violations, which could threaten
Starting point is 00:01:28 in the school's entire financial funding package. The Department of Education is currently investigating UPenn, San Jose State University, and the entire Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association. Of course, UPenn is where Will Thomas competed as a woman and won the NCAA championships in the 500 freestyle. Of course, you know Riley Gaines by now, she has become an activist against men and women's sports. It was three years ago today that she tied Will Thomas in the 200 freestyle at the national championships. Speaking of the Department of Education, Donald Trump will sign an executive
Starting point is 00:02:02 order tonight that fulfills a major campaign promise of his eliminating the Department of Education. Trump has called the Department a big con job. Now, Congress would have to officially eliminate the department, but the plan is to shift much of the department's duties to the states and also to other agencies, like the Office of Civil Rights, perhaps would go to the Department of Justice. Linda McMahon said this is Trump's first shutdown of a cabinet-level. agency. The order directs Linda McMahon to take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the Department of Education and return education authority to the states, while continuing to ensure the effective and uninterrupted delivery of services, programs, and benefits on which
Starting point is 00:02:41 Americans rely. The Federal Reserve met. They decided to hold interest rates steady. Quote, uncertainty around the economic outlook has increased. The committee would be prepared to adjust the stance on monetary policy as appropriate if risks emerge that could impede the attainment of the committee's goals. The Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, as the chairman for now, said, we are not in a hurry. One of Trump's top economic goals is not just a better stock market, but to create an economic environment where rates can come down. I'm Mike Slater from Politics by Faith. Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day. On this Thursday, it is only midweek, and the new cycle continues to be a tsunami where things are changing at light speed. Let's run it down.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Apparently, the ceasefire concept in Ukraine is moving forward. Trump and Zelensky are now pals again, according to Secretary of State Rubio. They're agreeing with all kinds of ceasefire tenants. That, of course, is to put pressure on Putin, the evil one, who must also sign off on this ceasefire. I believe that will happen, but who knows when. The JFK files are out. Nothing huge in it, as I predicted, but there was CIA surveillance of Lee Harvey Oswald. If you read my book Killing Kennedy, you know that. And the extent of the surveillance is still not well defined, even with all of these documents. We know that
Starting point is 00:04:51 Lee R.V. Oswald, defected to Russia, came back to the USA, then tried to get into Cuba. So obviously, the CIA was going to watch a former Marine who was a sharp shooter. And they did. But somehow, they lost track of Oswald. Anyway, I'm on this story. Finally, you can forget about the Epstein files. That evil person was incarcerated, committed suicide. no, but those files are going to be held up because there's a lot of names in them and those people will be crushed even if they didn't have much association with that monster. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Name in town if you wish to opine.
Starting point is 00:05:42 Now let's go to the mail. We got Ted, concierge member, Ted's, whatever happens to Ted, my crew is there to watch his back. Everything you witness at the Oval Office on Monday, O'Reilly, was incredible. JFK's files coming out is long overdue. Kate's law is common sense must happen. As for war criminal Putin, the world's in trouble. We don't know how it will end. It's true.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Putin is such a villain. No question about it. Dorothy, concierge member, thank God. The president has a good sense to ask for your opinions, O'Reilly. I don't know about that, but I'm happy to help every president, not just Trump. I've talked to all of them. Steve Prosk, Fairview, Texas, I watch the Nostman News every night. How did Lee Harvey Oswald land a job that was on predity Kennedy's path in Dallas?
Starting point is 00:06:42 He landed it at random. Okay, about six weeks before Oswald shot Kennedy. he showed up and he got the job at the depository. Nobody knew that Kenny was going to go to Dallas. So it was a crime of opportunity, as I have reported. Good question, though. Ted Burekowski, Charlotte, North Carolina. Bill, since any leftist judge can stop the president's agenda,
Starting point is 00:07:10 why didn't the Republicans do the same thing to Biden? They did. They stopped the student loans, among other things. So this lawfare is used both ways, but much, much more on the radical left. Raymond, I wonder if killing Kennedy will need to be rewritten. No, I doubt it. I'm very, very confident. You wouldn't believe how much work we put into that book.
Starting point is 00:07:34 So check it out if you haven't read it. Amazon got it. We have it on bill o'Reilly.com, I believe. In a moment, something you might not know. Presents Painful Thoughts. 20 more minutes to kill in the pharmacy before my prescription is ready. Maybe I'll grab some deeply discounted out-of-season Halloween candy. Starting point is 00:08:03 Those were raisins, right? Next time use Amazon Pharmacy. We deliver. And no, those were not raisins. Amazon Pharmacy. Healthcare just got less painful. Now, the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know. 173 years ago today, one of the most consequential books of all time was published in Boston. The novel would change the course of American history.
Starting point is 00:08:32 Here is the story behind Uncle Tom's Cabin. Born 1811 in Connecticut, author Harriet Beecher Stowe was the seventh child of an abolitionist preacher. As a young woman, Ms. Stowe often encountered few. Fugitive slaves ferried north by the Underground Railroad. Harriet married and moved to Cincinnati. At the time, trade along the Ohio River attracted numerous groups. Europeans, Mexicans, French Canadians, runaway blacks, bounty hunters, deployed to capture that. Amid to chaos, Harriet Beecher Stowe began working on a book about the evils of slavery.
Starting point is 00:09:13 On March 20th, 1852, Uncle Tom's cabin was released. The novel tells the story of Uncle Tom, an enslaved man, depicted as religious and dignified in the book. While being transported by boat to auction in New Orleans, Tom saves the life of Little Eva, whose grateful father then buys him. In the end, Tom has beaten to death for refusing to divulge the whereabouts of runaway slaves. Story became an instant success, selling more than 10,000 copies in the first week, another 300,000 sold within a year of publication.
Starting point is 00:09:54 Uncle Tom's Cabin, at a major influence on the way the American public viewed slavery. For the first time, black people were presented as moral, intelligent, and loyal. And here's something else you might not know. Abraham Lincoln credited Harriet Beecher Stowe with changing the nation's attitude towards African Americans. The president met Stowe in 1862 and he said, quote, so this is the little lady who made this big war, a reference, of course, to the fight against slavery in the civil war. Harry at Beecher Stowe remained a prominent writer until her death in 1896 at the age of 85. I have a signed copy of Uncle Tom's Cabin and it is one of my most valuable possessions.
