Here's what's happening today in America. Talks are open.
Starting point is 00:00:31 DHS confirmation, LaGuardia crash. And Memphis Safe Task Force results, that's all coming up. And Bill's going to be here with your message of the day of the first. President Trump postponed U.S. strikes in Iran's energy infrastructure. And he said yesterday that talks would continue and that there are, quote, major points of agreement. They're not going to have nuclear weapons. That's number one, the president said. That's number one, two and three.
Starting point is 00:00:54 They will never have a nuclear weapon. And they've agreed to that. Trump told reporters that we are talking with a top person in Iran, but not the new Supreme leader. we don't even know if he's alive. The president said we're doing a five-day period. We'll see how that goes. And if that goes well, we're going to end up with settling this.
Starting point is 00:01:12 Otherwise, we just keep bombing our little hearts out. When asked who will be in control of the Strait of Hormuz after the war, Trump said, maybe me, me and the next Ayatollah, whoever that is. Mark Wayne Mullen, the former senator from Oklahoma, has been confirmed as the new head of Homeland Security, a 54 to 45 vote, two Democrats, John Federman of Pennsylvania and Mark Hendrick of New Mexico, joined Republicans voting to confirm Mullen. Ram Paul of Kentucky voted against the confirmation because they have beef with each other.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Mullins confirmation comes in the middle of this Department of Homeland Security partial shutdown, employees from TSA, FEMA, and a few other agencies under DHS not getting paid. Worth noting that ice showing up to airports across the country, reports of those long lines going way down. A regional Air Canada jet collided into a Port Authority fire truck at LaGuardia Airport in New York City. This crash on the runway killed both of the pilots, injured dozens of passengers, and prompted the airport to shut down for hours. At least 43 people were taken to the hospital. The fire truck was responding to a separate incident from the night before.
Starting point is 00:02:23 The plane was traveling around 100 miles per hour. The president yesterday was in Memphis to celebrate the success of the Memphis Safe Task Force. In the year before the president took office, Memphis saw more than 12,500 violent assaults, 429 rapes, and 7,600 burglaries and armed robberies. Now, overall crime in the city is down 43% from the same period last year. Motor vehicle thefts down 67%, robberies down 51, sexual assaults down 38, homicides down 35%, burglaries down 32%, aggravated assaults down 31%.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Speaking of our nation's capital, the president said we have virtually no crime in D.C. right now. We're going to keep it that way. Or we're going to federalize it if we had to. We don't have to do it anymore because it's in such great shape. I'm Mike Slater from the podcast, Politics by Faith. Starting point is 00:03:49 the death of former FBI chief Robert Mueller at 81 stimulated President Trump to say, quote, I'm glad he's dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people. Tough analysis, it's no question. Mueller was a special counsel in charge of investigating the 2016 Russian collusion
Starting point is 00:04:09 case, where the Trump campaign allegedly worked with Putin's stooges to influence the presidential election. By all accounts, Mueller's staff put the Trump family through hell. And then, in the final report that exonerated the Trump's, failed to spell out the incredible dishonesty of Hillary Clinton's campaign and FBI Chief James Comey. The truism that people believe what they want to believe applies to the saga of Robert Mueller. He very much wanted to destroy the political career President Trump, but simply could not find a way. However, Mueller tried his damnedest to deliver. Speaking ill of the dead is not generally noble, but I certainly understand President Trump's sentiment.
Starting point is 00:05:08 My family has also been attacked by venal people. I will not be unhappy when they depart this earth. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. Starting point is 00:05:29 We got Lloyd on a message board. Lloyd is a premium member, and he gets to interact with other premium members. It's fun. Why would ABC News run an untrue story about Iran attacking California with a drone? Trying to argue President Trump shouldn't have attacked because it wasn't an imminent threat story. We make many Americans want to kill Iranians. The ABC News people didn't check the story out. Okay?
Starting point is 00:05:56 Couldn't check the story out because it isn't true. Why did they run it? I'm not a mind reader, but creating hysteria? Media likes to do that. Edward Wood, Edenton, North Carolina. My patient with Trump's war is faded. Americans don't know what the objective is. Presidents in his own bubble.
Starting point is 00:06:17 Either we are being misled or the arrogance from our military leadership misjudged the Iranian will and resistance. Okay. But I think that the objective is fairly clear. No nooks there, Ed. We might take a look at that. Carol, concierge member, Carol gets direct access to me. If Carol gets in any trouble, we will help her.
Starting point is 00:06:42 Trump is a businessman, not a politician. Which is why he did not prepare his fellow Americans for the war with Iran and the price they would pay in higher gas and food prices. Not a good excuse. But I don't think that you could have predicted all unintended consequences. All right, but he's president. So he needs to explain as much as he can explain. Joyce Fulton, Bradley, DeLan, Florida.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Hey, Bill, would you explain why the U.S. is not receiving oil from Venezuela after all the help we gave them? Joyce, I can't explain it because it's not true. We control Venezuelan oil. So why would you think we didn't? If you could give me some hint, if you were misled by someone, I'd like to know. In a moment, something you might not know. Now, the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know. Five years ago today, Joe Biden appointed his vice president, Kamala Harris,
Starting point is 00:07:51 to serve as the so-called border czar. You may remember that. Despite the serious title, the situation at the border continued to spiral out of control. Here's the story behind that disaster. On his first day in office, the 46th president ended all immigration restrictions imposed by his predecessor, Donald Trump. That decision turned out to be catastrophic. In 2020, 400,000 people breached the southern border. In 21, that figure exploded to one.
Starting point is 00:08:26 1.6 million, then 2.2 million, finally 2.5 million. The amount of fentanyl seized in Texas alone tripled to 25,000 pounds. On March 24, 2021, President Biden picked Hamla to fix the border situation. I've asked her the VP today because she's the most qualified person to do it, to lead our efforts with Mexico and the northern triangle and the countries that are going to need help in stemming the movement of so many folks stemming the migration to our southern border. But help was not forthcoming. The chaos continued for three years. After replacing Biden as a Democratic nominee, Ms. Harris refused to take any responsibility
Starting point is 00:09:23 for the border crisis. Shortly before the election, shortly before the election, she sat down with 60 minutes. Was it a mistake to loosen the immigration policies as much as you did? It's a long-standing problem, and solutions are at hand, and from day one, literally, we have been offering solutions. The record shows nothing was improved at the border. In November 24, Donald, Trump defeated Kamala Harris in both a popular and electoral count. He carried every swing state. And here's something else you might not know. Since beginning his second term, President Trump has mostly solved the border crisis. Last year, just 300,000 people crossed illegally.
Starting point is 00:10:16 That's a decrease of 96% from President Biden. Back? a moment. Thank you for listening to the O'Reilly update. I am Bill O'Reilly. No spin, just facts, and always looking out for you. Getting ready for a game means being ready for anything. Like packing a spare stick. I like to be prepared.
