Bill O'Reilly here, you are listening to the weekend edition of the O'Reilly Update.
Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater.
Thanks, Bill. You're listening to the weekend edition of the O'Reilly Update.
Here's what's happening this week in America.
The new American Pope, the first nation to sign, a new nominee and an FAA remaking.
It's all coming up.
Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day.
But first, the new Pope is an American.
He's now Pope Leo the 14th, born in Chicago.
He's probably the first Pope to be a White Sox fan.
Graduate of Villanova University, that's a famous alum for you.
I mentioned
I've been pretty happy over Villanova.
He has voted in Republican primaries.
He's a registered Republican.
But his social media account
by way of retweets
has been critical of J.D. Vance and Donald Trump.
Alas, our president said
it's such an honor to realize
that he is the first American pope.
What excitement and what a great honor for our country.
I like forward to meeting Pope Leo the 14th.
It will be a very meaningful moment.
Big trade announcement yesterday
was a new deal with the United Kingdom.
The White House said that this deal will open up $5 billion in new markets for Americans.
This is the first nation to sign a new formal trade agreement after the tariff announcement.
The 10% baseline that Liberation Day tariff remains in effect, which the White House estimates
will generate $6 billion in external revenue.
Howard Lutnik, our Commerce Secretary, said they sell Rolls-Royce engines to Boeing,
made in England.
We've agreed to let Rolls-Royce engines and those kinds of plane parts to come over tariff-free.
And what you're going to hear today is there's going to be a big announcement.
in the UK that they're buying $10 billion worth of Boeing planes later today.
Disappointing news, Ed Martin will not be the U.S. attorney for D.C. A few Republicans
bailed on him. So Donald Trump named Fox News host Judge Janine Piro as the interim
U.S. attorney. If those Republicans had a problem with Ed Martin, I imagine they're going to
have the same qualms with Piero. Tom Tillis in North Carolina was the main Republican against
Ed Martin. He's up for reelection coming up in 2026.
There's talk of possibly Laura Trump, a North Carolina native, running against him.
Donald Trump said he'll name Ed Martin to be the new director of the weaponization working
group at the Department of Justice, as well as Associate Deputy Attorney General.
The FAA has pledged to fix all the problems at Newark Airport.
Trump spoke at an event with Secretary Duffy, our Transportation Secretary,
and Trump said a complete modernization is going to be taking place soon.
We are beginning the process of fully replacing the technology at more than 4,600
air traffic control sites and building six new state-of-the-art air traffic control coordination
centers.
This is clearly what we need, a massive revolutionary change.
Trump said it's long overdue for a remaking from the ancient infrastructure that we're
still using today.
Bill O'Reilly has your message of the day.
Next.

message of the day. We all pay taxes so our elected officials will have money to protect us
and solve problems. That's Civics 101.
But you may have noticed that few schools teach civics any longer.
Certainly the politicians have noticed.
My current take is that the Democrats really are not trying to solve difficult situations.
They are solely interested in opposing Trump.
Here are some questions to back my assertion up.
What is the Democrats' solution to the $37 trillion?
debt, to illegal drugs being smuggled in from Mexico, to ending the wars in Ukraine and
Gaza, to the yearly trillion-dollar trade deficit, to preventing Iran from building nuclear
weapons, to the exploding cost of health care.
What are the Democrats putting forth to solve any of the world?
those problems? Well, President Biden had no specific plans to improve any of those things,
and it looks like his party is carrying on Joe's tradition right now. Maybe I missed the Democratic-sponsored
legislation on the Hill, but I doubt it. It is much easier to oppose solutions from anybody,
especially the Trump administration, rather than proposing
your own solutions. Right, Democrats? I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it.
You can reach me. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Bill at Bill O'Reilly.com. Name in town, if you wish to opine.
All right, let's go to the mail. Barry Weinstein, Carrie, North Carolina. O'Reilly, you should know that if
President of Mexico agrees to allow the American Army into her country to attack the cartel,
she and her family will be assassinated. We pointed that out, that there is a danger to the
Presidente. Even ordinary Mexican citizens would be shocked, not forgetting the war we fought against
them, taking Texas and other claimed territories. I don't know about that, Barry. 1845 is a long time
away. And I think most Mexicans would be relieved that drug cartels are destroyed. That is my
opinion. As far as President Scheinbaum is concerned, maybe she requests the Navy SEAL
guards her. If her own government can't, right? I'm sure President Trump would provide her with
security in a joint military exercise. Eric, Chloe Scheinbaum not strong enough and her country is too
corrupt. The U.S. cannot protect the few honest politicians and America's drug addiction is too
strong. Also, many U.S. politician business leaders are paid off by cartels. No, they're not.
There are a few on the border that are paid by cartels, but that's not a big problem here.
It is a big problem in Mexico.
Paul Deluccio, Las Vegas, here's a tough love, hard truth.
The cartels are not responsible for drug use deaths in the USA.
The drug users are.
It is willful suicide.
Well, I may be true, but so what?
Do you let cartels kill millions of people, gun them down?
corrupt the whole country, smuggle migrants in here?
No, you destroy them.
You've got to destroy them.
You can blame the drug addicts,
and I don't have a lot of sympathy for a lot of those people either.
But this is bigger than that.

Now the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might,
not know. Another budget battle looming in Congress.
Predictably, Democrats are trying to scare the public
by claiming Republicans want to slash spending on Medicare and Medicaid.
Despite the blather, President Trump has promised to protect the entitlement system.
However, to be fair, significant changes must be made to ensure these programs are solvent in the future.
Here are the facts.
America's welfare state drastically increased in July 1965 as part of President
Johnson's Great Society program. Medicare was designed to provide government subsidized health
insurance for senior citizens. At the time, nearly all workers obtained coverage through their
jobs. Those who retired, however, were immediately booted from the program. Medicaid gives free
health care to low-income families, the sick, disabled, and those unable to find work. It is administered
by the states, but gets federal tax dollars.
Now, during the first year, the entire budget for both Medicare and Medicaid was about $1.3 billion,
the modern equivalent of $12 billion.
Total enrollment, 25 million Americans.
60 years later, the system has spiraled out of control.
2019 combined spending on Medicare and Medicaid topped $1.4 trillion.
More than 150 million Americans are enrolled in either program, nearly half of the U.S. population.
In 2024, taxpayers spent $1.8 trillion on the public health care system, an increase of 30% in five years under President Joe Biden.
The mounting cost is a result of two things. First, Americans are living longer. When OBJ started
the entitlement programs, the average life expectancy in the USA was 66 years. That figure has risen
to 81. Secondly, fraud. Department of Health and Human Services estimates 15% of all health care
payments are bogus. That's $300 billion in fraudulent waste.
Can a system continue that way?
No.
Back after this.
