Starting point is 00:00:33 Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thank you, Bill. It is Friday. May 15th, 2026. Here's this happening today in America. Toast to China, Cuba out of oil, the Road Act, and helping change a flat. It's all coming up. Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, President Trump and the Chinese President Xi Jinping toasted their relations in a very uncomfortable show of love between Xi and Trump.
Starting point is 00:01:03 the past two days. The President China greeted our president outside the Great Hall of the People before the two men walked together past Chinese soldiers and rows of perfectly coordinated cheering children as the Star-Spangled banner played on Chinese soil and a 21-gun salute across Tiananmen Square. The talks lasted more than two hours. Apparently the talks covered fentanyl, securing market access for American companies in China and increasing Chinese investment in American industries and purchasing U.S. agricultural products. For instance, China granted permission for hundreds of American slaughterhouses to resume beef shipments to China.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Also, the president said, one thing he agreed to is to order 200 jets. That's a lot. Boeing wanted 150. He got 200. China's state media did not say that the Strait of Hormuz was discussed, but that the Middle East was. Cuba's energy minister said the country's diesel and fuel oil stocks are completely dry. because of the American oil embargo since January. Quote, we have absolutely no diesel, he said, on the state-run television. He said a loan delivery of 730,000 barrels of oil from Russia in March had run out, and the national grid is now completely dependent on Cuba's own sources of energy.
Starting point is 00:02:19 In Havana, the blackouts are now 20 to 22 hours a day. He said this is because the genocidal blockade from America. There are reports of some protests in Havana, burning piles of trash, banging pots, and shouting, turn on the lights. The president is encouraging the House to pass the Senate's version of the Road Act about housing. It passed the House and then the Senate months ago, but it hasn't been taken up by the House, which has to repass it to iron out the differences between the two. The White House prefers the Senate's version.
Starting point is 00:02:48 The main part of the bill is to decrease regulations to build more housing. It does it in many different ways. But the part getting the most attention is Section 901, which bans institutional investors, companies that own more than 350 homes from buying single family homes. As the president said in a state of the union address, homes are for people, not corporations. Three high schoolers were helping a man change a flat tire on the side of the road in Florida when the man said he wasn't feeling well.
Starting point is 00:03:14 The boys called 911. The ambulance arrived. The man survives. The sheriff's office said that if the three boys did not offer to help the man in the first place, then they wouldn't have been there to save his life. The man's son said God did not send angels with wings. He sent those boys. I'm Mike Slater from Politics by Faith. Bill O'Reilly has your message of the day. Next.

After spending two days in Beijing, China, he gets on a plane and does not even lose any time because China is 12 hours ahead of East Coast time. But we don't
Starting point is 00:04:28 really know what happened over there, do we? However, something has to give on Iran. Now, here's the way it goes. All of these diplomatic displays are there to show the world that China and the USA are friendly. Okay. But what about substance? They don't put that out. President Trump is giving a couple of interviews to friendly interviewers. I think that's fair. And I don't mean any diminishment by that. But is he going to tell you national security stuff about Iran? No.
Starting point is 00:05:12 In fact, the public really doesn't have much of an idea what happened in Beijing or what is going to happen in Iran. something has to happen because the mullers are strangling the world economy now. And U.S. consumers are getting very angry and President Trump knows it. Hopefully I can ferret out as much information as possible. Stay with us. We are on the case. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me. Bill at bill o'Reilly.com. at bill o'reilly.com, name in town, if you wish to opine. Now let's go to the mail.
Starting point is 00:06:03 John, I agree with you about insurance companies, but oil is a commodity traded on the world market. Nothing you can do about that really. Of course there is. Why do you think they're releasing oil from our strategic reserves? John. We couldn't do anything about the world market oil. Why are releasing our own oil?
Starting point is 00:06:28 to get more oil into our marketplace. So prices go down. Judith, oil insurance companies aren't the only ones gouging with the people at grocery corporations to that list. Can't argue. Cannot argue with that. They're going to capitalize. Bill capitalize.
Starting point is 00:06:51 I don't care. I'm generalizing, but you know I'm right. Chad Coffee, normal Illinois. I don't believe you're wrong when you say the Pope is interested in promoting peace. What I think you are leaving out is that in the Iran conflict was being led by President Harris or Joe Biden or Barack Obama, the Pope would have stayed silent. I don't believe that. I don't think he's a political player at all.
Starting point is 00:07:17 He doesn't like the migrant thing. But he's not going to get involved with U.S. politics. Okay, I hope you get involved with the greatest hats of all time, the 250 U.S.As, we have on our store, in our store, Bill O'Reilly.com. I got mine ready to go for the spring and summer. Looks great. I hope you will check them out. Word of the day to not be lugubrious, L-U-U-B-I-B-R-I-O-U-S.
Starting point is 00:07:51 The worst thing I can have is a guest who's lugubrious. That's the worst. In a moment. something you might not know. Across Canada in a Volvo. Destination, Vancouver, turn left to leave. Travel west through. Approaching. Continue toward.

Now the O'Reilly update brings you something you might not know. 418 years ago, British sailors founded the first permanent settlement in North America. The outposts would lay the foundation for what would become the United States.
Starting point is 00:08:53 Here's the story of Jamestown. Three ships left the shores of England in December 1606. The Susan Constant. Godspeed and discovery. The vessels carried 104 settlers. The purpose? To establish a profitable colony in the New World, sending goods back to London. The crew landed on the shores of Virginia the following May.
Starting point is 00:09:22 The men built a triangular garrison to protect them from Spanish ships and native tribes. The structure was called Fort James, the surrounding area, James Town. The colonists grew lucrative crops, mainly tobacco. They also established trade with the native population. However, the once-friendly relationship between Europeans and Indians quickly fell apart. In the year 1620, James Town officials demanded that Indian children be educated among the colonists. Some were forcibly converted to Christianity.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Well, tribal leaders viewed the English settlement as a threat to their survival. They planned a preemptive strike. On the morning of March 22nd, 1622, the natives walked freely through the streets of Jamestown. At dawn, they grabbed weapons, smuggled into the outpost. The Indians then attacked men, women, and children while they slept. By noon, 350 colonists were murdered. Instead of a rapid retreat, the British Crown reinforced the colonists with soldiers, weapons, and supplies.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Events sparked two decades of conflict between the settlers and their Indian neighbors. back in a moment. Thank you for listening to the O'Reilly update. I am Bill O'Reilly. No spin, just facts, and always looking out for you.
