Bill O'Reilly here Monday, May 18th, 2020. You are listening to the O'Reilly Update. Here's what's happening today in America. Shootings in New York City jump during the shutdown. A judge in Los Angeles orders the relocation of thousands of homeless. The Fed boss says the economy could rebound later this year. Major League Baseball unveiling a new plan to bring back the games. Most adults now spend most of their lives staring at a digital screen. Also ahead, in the new stimulus bill, is there a massive deceit? But first, gun violence in the Big Apple rising 188% last week, more than 1,500 inmates have been released from city prisons because of the virus, including 300 violent felons.

The cost of narcotics also up, heroin has doubled in price since March due to the limited supply because of the virus. Add it all up, you have more violence with guns. A judge demanding Los Angeles finds shelter but thousands of homeless people living near the city's highways. At least 7,000 Angelenos live under freeway ramps, bridges, and overpasses. The city's homeless population, is up 20% since 2018. That's more than 45,000 people on the street at any given time. The court ruling on the homeless says they are now a public safety hazard. The head of the Federal Reserve telling 60 minutes the American economy should turn around, Chairman Jerome Powell, saying, quote,

assuming there is not a second wave of the coronavirus, you'll see the economy recover through the second half of this year, unquote. More than 36 million jobs have disappeared due to COVID. Major League Baseball releasing its plan to bring back America's pastime. Owners are returned to stadiums by July. The new rules ban chewing tobacco, spitting postgame showers, high fives, on and on. Athletes not in the lineup will sit in an auxiliary seating area, and mandatory COVID tests will be administered on a week basis to the players and personnel. New study says the average adult will spend decades of life looking at an electric screen. From ages 18 to 81, people watch 34 years of TV, movies, computers, smartphones, on and on before they die. Doctors say the small screens are terrible

Did you know that last year Americans paid more taxes to the federal government than ever before? Two reasons. The robust economy meant workers for making more money. And the Trump tax reform law eliminated deductions for state and local taxes above $10,000. That means people like me have to fork over more to the federal government

because we can't write off state and local taxes, which in liberal places like New York and California is a lot. So it was shocking to see that the new Nancy Pelosi pandemic relief bill, which passed the House on Friday, calls for eliminating the $10,000 ceiling, thus putting more money in the pockets of the affluent. Bernie Sanders, who pays property taxes on three homes, has not said a word. That's because the Democratic Party is heavily funded by Fat Cats in Silicon Valley, Hollywood, Manhattan, and the Hamptons, as well as other wealthy,

liberal precincts. This buds for you, rich leftists. Nancy P. gives back, despite the phony rhetoric about the rich paying their fair share. Now, you might ask why a sop to the wealthy is included in a virus relief package in the first place, or why quasi-amnesty for the undocumented is in there, or major assistance to companies that legally sell marijuana, or dozens of other things that have nothing to do with fighting the pandemic. The answer is politics. Ms. Pelosi is signaling the updated Democratic platform leading to the election. The speaker knows a new relief bill will not be passed. Only one Republican congressman, Peter King of New York, voted for. for it in the House and no GOP Senators will. But Ms. Pelosi would like her party to understand

exactly where its future lies and especially wants her fat cat pals to realize they will benefit financially. She also would like to see Republicans kill the House stimulus bill so she can run around and say, hey, they don't care about the workers. That's cynical and incredibly hypocritical game is not well understood by we the people. And here's something else that is hidden truth. If the new pandemic bill ever did pass, the nation's debt would increase to $28 trillion. Money the USA can never fully pay. The Democrats have no interest in slowing down the mass of government spending, even though the gross fiscal irresponsibility is a real threat to eventually crash the economy. But that's exactly what the socialists and their

sympathizers want. If the private marketplace collapses, the federal government will have to take it over completely, something Bernie and his bros yearn for. We live in a country full of distractions, distortions, and dismal challenges like COVID. Many of our leaders are not interested in problem solving and often bury their true agenda in legislation that is almost impossible to read. The Pelosi Bill runs a thousand pages.
