Bill O'Reilly here Thursday, May 2, 2019. You are listening to the O'Reilly Update. Here's what's happening today in America. Attorney General William Barr battles Democrats on Capitol Hill. American job growth exceeds expectations. An Alabama Democrat facing fierce backlash for his comments on abortion. Federal agents detained the largest group ever stopped at the U.S.-Mexico border, Nicholas Maduro blaming the Venezuelan uprising on the Trump administration. Also coming up my message of the day, the real reason Democrats are worried. But first, the Attorney General testifies in D.C., William Barr sported with lawmakers at the Capitol Wednesday, with Democrats pouncing on Robert Mueller's letter, accusing the top DOJ official, of taking the Mueller report, quote, out of context, unquote. Mr. Barr is refusing to meet with members of the House today, despite Chair Gerald Nadler's threat to take legal action against him.

The economy is showing no signs of slowing down as America's private sector added another 275,000 jobs in April alone, the biggest gains since last July. The unemployment rate remains at 3.8%. with jobless claims at the lowest level in nearly 50 years. An Alabama Democrat facing a fierce backlash for his provocative comments on abortion after his state passed a new pro-life legislation. He said some children are just, quote, unwanted, so you simply, quote, kill them now or you kill them later in the electric chair.

That statement will not help the pro-life lobby. to the border where federal agents stopped the largest group of migrants ever detained. Customs officials confirm they apprehended two groups in rural New Mexico, consisting of more than 600 illegal immigrants. The present governor of New Mexico, Democrat Michelle Grisham, favors lack security on the border. Nicholas Maduro's socialist regime survives a potential coup in Venezuela as tens of thousands of protesters, march against his government. The dictator now claiming victory over his opposition, saying his revolution endured a direct attack from the, quote, gringo empire based in Washington, D.C. As we reported, Attorney General Barr will not testify in front of the House Judiciary Committee today. He knows very well that the chairman, Democrat Gerald Nadler, will try to diminish him.

And he also knows that he's being set up for a quote-unquote perjury trap. Now, yesterday, Mr. Barr endured hours of Senate Democrats telling him he was a liar, a fraud, and a front for President Trump. The real reason this is happening is because next week, according to the Attorney General, the Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, will issue a report on the FBI I and other agencies that investigated Russian collusion and Hillary Clinton's email situation. According to my sources, there is a likelihood that criminal action will be recommended by Mr. Horowitz. That means that possibly people like James Comey, Andrew McCabe, could be indicted.

Now, if Attorney General Barr is smeared, if his credibility is not, nothing, then he will have a hard time bringing charges against anybody because the Democrats will say, well, you didn't charge President Trump with obstruction of justice, as Robert Mueller implied, even though he really didn't. So how can you charge anyone else? That's what's going on here in the attempt to diminish the Attorney General. Now, Now, to be fair, Mr. Barr does not want to indict a sitting president of the United States. He simply does not want to do that. And he has good reason because of special counsel, Robert Mueller, after two years and $30 million spent,

came back with a 482-page report that really has no criminal referral in it. Now, Mr. Mueller, for whatever reason, is not happy. with the way Attorney General Barr assessed his report in a four-page synopsis. Okay, that happens all a time in Washington. I can't read Robert Mueller's mind. He's a former FBI chief himself, but the fact remains that in his voluminous report, there is no accusation of criminal wrongdoing against President Trump. And William Barr, as Attorney General, has to respect that. Now, if Mr. bar as a different interpretation of Mr. Mueller's obstruction of justice opinion? So be it. I don't mind a debate, but to call the Attorney General a liar to imply that he is corrupt, as some Senate

Democrats did yesterday, is flat out wrong. That does not serve the nation. And always remember that the basic tenant of Russian collusion is going to be used up until the 2020 vote. The Democratic Party has decided to keep the issue alive, which is why you are going to see continual hearings, continual testimony, continual accusations, and the two cable networks, MSNBC and CNN, who are virulently anti-Trump, continue to lodge accusations. can come from incredibly small beginnings. Case in point, Doc Pemberton's miracle, tonic. We all hope to control the legacy we leave behind, but history can have a funny way of rendering its own verdict on our life's work. Nobody illustrates that fact better than John Pemberton, a man who hoped to be remembered for creating a miracle drug. Pemberton, known as Doc, among his friends and family, had been wounded in 1865 as a cavalry officer during the Civil War, serving under the Georgia State Guard, which, of course, was part of the larger Confederate Army. Like many vets of his era, the chronic pain of his injuries led to a severe morphine addiction,

and it became Doc's life goal to develop a non-addictive alternative to morphine. Doc settled in Atlanta, where he uses extensive knowledge of chemistry to experiment with exotic ingredients known for their medicinal qualities. He found what he was looking for when he combined the extract from a South American leaf with fruit from the rainforests of Africa. The ingredients produced a tonic that was both delicious and refreshing. According to Pemberton, they imparted energy to the lungs, strengthened the nervous system, and even cured morphine addiction. In 1886, Jacobs Pharmacy in downtown Atlanta became the first establishment

to serve Doc Pemberson's tonic for five cents a glass. Despite a slow start, Pemberton still believed in the merits of his beverage. He embarked on a bold marketing campaign that included the use of a sleek logo designed by his bookkeeper. Sales picked up, and the beverage became a sensation around Atlanta.
