Bill O'Reilly here. It's Monday, May 20th, 2019. You are listening to the O'Reilly update and here's what's happening across our nation. Joe Biden holds his first rally of 2020 primary season in Philadelphia. Never before seen footage of Bernie Sanders's 1988 honeymoon to the Soviet Union is released. President Trump threatening to destroy Iran if rockets target Americans in Baghdad.
The Pope promotes freedom of the press, but warns of fake news.
A commencement speaker surprised as graduates with a major announcement.
Also coming up by message of the day, some students disrespecting the vice president.
But first, the campaign.
Former vice president, Joe Biden, delivering his first campaign rally in Philadelphia over the weekend,
telling supporters he's returning to public life to unite the nation and offer Americans
a different path than President Trump.
Never before seen footage of Bernie Sanders revealing new details of the Democratic Socialist
honeymoon visit to the USSR back in 1988.
Video shows the far left candidate eating traditional Russian meals under-framed portraits
of Lenin telling local communist officials, quote, he has deep respect for the Soviet way
of life.
To the Middle East, where President Trump now threatening to decide.
destroy Iran. Should that country continue to target American interests in the region?
The commander-in-chief telling report is that any armed conflict with the Islamic Republic
would be the official end of Iran, unquote. The president's comments come hours after
a rocket landed less than a mile from the U.S. embassy in Iraq. Pope Francis urging Catholics and
others to shun fake news during a speech at the Vatican. The Pope saying the press has a moral
obligation to, quote, take the time to understand issues before publishing the stories.
The commencement speaker at Morehouse College, surprise graduate Sunday, when he,
billionaire investor Robert Smith, announced he would personally finance the student debt
of the entire class. Mr. Smith has an estimated net worth of $4.4 billion, earning his fortune
as an engineer before working as a CEO of a private equity firm with more than $31 billion in
assets. Morehouse is a primarily African American institution, and as you can imagine,
the graduates were thrilled. Coming out my message of the day on dissent against Vice President
Pence, but first, if you watch 60 Minutes and you own a home, you just got very nervous.
The FBI's former head of cybercrimes has warned home owners that foreign and domestic thieves
can steal your home and do it all online. That's because home titles and mortgages are kept
in databases that can be hacked. If you have equity in your home, here's how they get you.
They simply forge your name onto your home's title. Use your home as collateral to borrow cash
and stick you with the payments. And no bank or identity theft program protects you. So you need
home title lock, America's leading title and mortgage guardian. For pennies a day, home title
lock puts a barrier around your home's title and mortgage. If cyber thieves tamper with it,
we mobilize to help shut it down. You may already be a victim. Here's how to find out. Go to home
title lock.com and register for your free title scan and report, a $100 value, free with sign up.
Don't let cyber thieves steal your home. Go to hometidalock.com, hometitalloc.com.
Time now for the O'Reilly Update, message of the day, the art of dissent.
Vice President Pence gave the keynote address at the Taylor College graduation a few days ago.
That is a Christian school in Indiana, Pence's home state.
Some of the crowd walked out when the vice president began speaking, but most stayed.
and in the end gave him a standing ovation. Some of those who objected to Pence signed a petition
that stated that Trump administration is, quote, not consistent with the Christian ethic of love,
unquote. One student told the press, Mike Pence is not a, quote, welcoming person. Of course,
that student was not exactly welcoming the vice president who had been invited to speak. He did not
solicit the opportunity. Anyway, the word welcoming is currently in vogue on many college campuses,
and it's basically a political signal that almost all circumstance should be accepted in American
society, including foreign nationals coming to the USA illegally. Now, if you object, you are not
welcoming. And if you are not welcoming, you shouldn't be allowed on campus.
So that's what's going on.
Political dissent in general is an important part of democracy.
As long as dissenters do not become the oppressors.
There's nothing wrong with not wanting to hear the vice president speak.
There is something disturbing about demonizing him with generalities.
When I graduated from college in 1971, the Vietnam War had ushered in perhaps the worst political division in this country.
outside of the Civil War. The massive dissent back then was both good and bad. It spotlighted the
Vietnam War, which was not being waged properly. It was putting our soldiers in grave danger,
more than 55,000 of them killed, for political reasons. We did not wage the war as we had
waged World War II. It was a political war. So the dissent pointed that out. On the other
side, some students went mad. The SDS, students for a Democratic society, promoted violence on some
campuses. There was Ken State. The National Guard had to be called out. Buildings were set on fire.
Students intimidated, fights breaking out on campuses. It was really bad. That led to the hippie
movement, the peace movement, and then the yippies. Remember them? The yippies, Jerry
Rubin and his crew. Well, all of that was a mixed bag, as they say. There was some good things that came
from the dissent in the Vietnam War and many bad things. But here's the kicker. Many of those
hippies, yippies, and protesters are now conservative Americans. I know them. In my college,
some of the most radical students are now traditional Americans because they understand the system
better and they have seen more over their years. Today's political dissent is based
more on personality rather than issue, it is almost entirely a Trump thing.
Summing up, dissent is most worthy when there is a solid reason behind it.
Not welcoming enough? It really doesn't cut it.

not no. Imagine sailing the Mediterranean on a ship full of passages who share your thirst for history
and love of country. Gourmet, Italian food, great nightlife, and relaxing poolside on the deck.
Sound enticing, right? Well, you don't have to dream it, you can live it. I'm excited to announce
Glenn Beck's first ever cruise through history taking place next spring. He'll take us back in time
to the foundations of our faith, our freedom, and human progress. I'm going to join you.
as well as we sail the incredible Costa Luminosa out of Croatia. There are four different
options for you, but in a nutshell, the cruise will begin in Venice, then sail on the eastern
Mediterranean, visiting Croatia, Greece, and Israel. Here you will walk where Jesus and the
prophets walk in the Holy Land, guided every step of the way, and on the sea, we'll be with you,
myself, David Barton, Rabbi Lapin, Stu, and of course Beck. We would love to share
this experience as we cruise through history together. Please visit come sailaway.com to learn more.
That's come sailaway.com for all of the details. And now the O'Reilly Update brings you something
you might not know. Walking through Times Square in New York City on any afternoon is a very
different experience today than it was 35 years ago. Restaurants, tourist attractions, multi-military,
dollar shops dominate Times Square now. But in the bad old days, sleighs and drugs rule that
neighborhood. While much of the credit for cleaning up New York City goes to Mayor Rudy Giuliani,
it was another man's unique ideas that actually turned around the nation's largest metropolis.
George Kelling, the criminologist who co-wrote the Broken Windows Police Theory, died at his New Hampshire home,
last Wednesday. He was 83. His theory was outlined in a 7,000-word article in the Atlantic
magazine back in 1982. The proposal argued that local police departments could crack down on
major crimes like murder and rape by focusing on smaller offenses like parking violations,
loitering, or graffiti. The opinion was nicknamed the Broken Window Theory. It was widely embraced by
the NYPD after decades of horrific street violence in the Big Apple. The strategy was considered a
foundation for community policing by addressing citizens' complaints that could lead to more
serious crimes. The results were surprising to some who at first rejected the concept. In 1990,
there were 2,251 homicides throughout New York City's five boroughs. In 2014, that number had dropped to
just 339 murders, despite a population increase of a half million people.
It's impossible to calculate George Kelling's impact on day-to-day life for millions of New Yorkers,
not to mention the countless tourists that pack the city every day.
The broken windows policy turned around, a city so dangerous that a movie called Death Wish
vividly displayed the out-of-control violence in New York.
For this New Yorker, I'm forever grateful for George L. Kelling. He really saved lives.
Back after this. My friend Glenn Beck launched real estate agentsitrust.com for a very simple reason to help you sell your home for top dollar as quickly as possible.
His team quickly realized there are three keys to success. One, selling or buying a home is very complicated.
and difficult to navigate. So choose agents with a long track record of success. No part-time
or inexperienced agents in their network. Two, market value for your home cannot be calculated
using computer models. It takes years of expertise to evaluate your market and to price your
home to sell quickly for top dollar. Beck's agents are experts in your neighborhood.
And three, home sellers most genuinely like the agent. They choose.
to trust their home too. That's why we select agents who are fans like you. They do business
like you, and they share your value. Real estate agentsitrust.com was started to help you
buyer sell your home fast. Get moving with real estate agents.itrust.com, real estate agents
